1 And when the kingdom of Roboam was strengthened and fortified, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.	1 Alors que sa royauté s'était établie et affermie, Roboam abandonna la Loi de Yahvé, et toutIsraël avec lui.
2 And in the fifth year of the reign of Roboam, Sesac king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem (because they had sinned against the Lord)	2 La cinquième année du règne de Roboam, le roi d'Egypte, Sheshonq, marcha contreJérusalem, car elle avait été infidèle à Yahvé.
3 With twelve hundred chariots and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt, to wit, Libyans, and Troglodites, and Ethiopians.	3 Avec 1.200 chars, 60.000 chevaux et une innombrable armée de Libyens, de Sukkiens et deKushites, qui vint avec lui d'Egypte,
4 And he took the strongest cities in Juda, and came to Jerusalem.	4 il prit les villes fortifiées de Juda et atteignit Jérusalem.
5 And Semeias the prophet came to Roboam, and to the princes of Juda, that were gathered together in Jerusalem, fleeing from Sesac, and he said to them : Thus saith the Lord: You have left me, and I have left you in the hand of Sesac.	5 Shemaya, le prophète, vint trouver Roboam et les officiers judéens qui, devant Sheshonq,s'étaient regroupés près de Jérusalem, et il leur dit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé. Vous m'avez abandonné, aussi vous ai-jeabandonnés moi-même aux mains de Sheshonq."
6 And the princes of Israel, and the king, being in a consternation, said: The Lord is just.	6 Alors les officiers israélites et le roi s'humilièrent et dirent: "Yahvé est juste."
7 And when the Lord saw that they were humbled, the word of the Lord came to Semeias, saying: Because they are humbled, I will not destroy them, and I will give them a little help, and my wrath shall not fall upon Jerusalem by the hand of Sesac.	7 Quant Yahvé vit qu'ils s'humiliaient, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Shemaya en cestermes: "Ils se sont humiliés, je ne les exterminerai pas; sous peu je leur permettrai d'échapper et ce n'est pas parles mains de Sheshonq que ma colère s'abattra sur Jérusalem.
8 But yet they shall serve him, that they may know the difference between my service, and the service of a kingdom of the earth.	8 Mais ils deviendront ses esclaves et ils apprécieront ce que c'est que de me servir et de servirles royaumes des pays!"
9 So Sesac king of Egypt departed from Jerusalem, taking away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and of the king's house, and he took all with him, and the golden shields that Solomon had made,	9 Le roi d'Egypte Sheshonq marcha contre Jérusalem. Il se fit livrer les trésors du Temple deYahvé et ceux du palais royal, absolument tout, jusqu'aux boucliers d'or qu'avait faits Salomon;
10 Instead of which the king made brazen ones, and delivered them to the captains of the shieldbearers, who guarded the entrance of the palace.	10 à leur place le roi Roboam fit des boucliers de bronze et les confia aux chefs des gardes quiveillaient à la porte du palais royal:
11 And when the king entered into the house of the Lord, the shieldbearers came and took them, and brought them back again to their armoury.	11 chaque fois que le roi allait au Temple de Yahvé, les gardes venaient les prendre, puis ils lesrapportaient à la salle des gardes.
12 But yet because they were humbled, the wrath of the Lord turned away from them, and they were not utterly destroyed: for even in Juda there were found good works.	12 Mais parce qu'il s'était humilié, la colère de Yahvé se détourna de lui et ne l'anéantit pascomplètement. Qui plus est, d'heureux événements survinrent en Juda,
13 King Roboam therefore was strengthened in Jerusalem, and reigned: he was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord chose out of all the tribes of Israel, to establish his name there: and the name of his mother was Naama an Ammonitess.	13 le roi Roboam put s'affermir dans Jérusalem et régner. Il avait en effet 41 ans à sonavènement et il régna dix-sept ans à Jérusalem, la ville que Yahvé avait choisie entre toutes les tribus d'Israëlpour y placer son Nom. Sa mère s'appelait Naama, l'Ammonite.
14 But he did evil, and did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.	14 Il fit le mal, parce qu'il n'avait pas disposé son coeur à rechercher Yahvé.
15 Now the acts of Roboam first and last are written in the books of Semeias the prophet, and of Addo the seer, and diligently recorded: and there was war between Roboam and Jeroboam all their days.	15 L'histoire de Roboam, du début à la fin, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans l'histoire du prophèteShemaya et du voyant Iddo? Il y eut tout le temps des combats entre Roboam et Jéroboam.
16 And Roboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. And Abia his son reigned in his stead.	16 Roboam se coucha avec ses pères et fut enterré dans la Cité de David; son fils Abiyya régnaà sa place.
