1 Then the word of the Lord came to Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasa, saying :	1 The word of Yahweh came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha:
2 Forasmuch as I have exalted thee out of the dust, and made thee prince over my people Israel, and thou hast walked in the way of Jeroboam, and hast made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins:	2 'I raised you from the dust and made you leader of my people Israel, but you have fol owed Jeroboam'sexample and led my people Israel into sins which provoke my anger.
3 Behold, I will cut down the posterity of Baasa, and the posterity of his house, and I will make thy house as the house of Jeroboam the son of Nabat.	3 Now I shal sweep away Baasha and his House; I shal make your House like the House of Jeroboamson of Nebat.
4 Him that dieth of Baasa in the city, the dogs shall eat: and him that dieth of his in the country, the fowls of the air shall devour.	4 Those of Baasha's family who die in the city, the dogs wil eat; and those who die in the open country,the birds of the air wil eat.'
5 But the rest of the acts of Baasa and all that he did, and his battles, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?	5 The rest of the history of Baasha, his career, his valour, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annalsof the Kings of Israel?
6 So Baasa slept with his fathers, and was buried in Thersa: and Ela his son reigned in his stead.	6 When Baasha fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in Tirzah; his son Elah succeeded him.
7 And when the word of the Lord came in the hand of Jehu the son of Hanani the prophet, against Baasa, and against his house, and against all the evil that he had done before the Lord, to provoke him to anger by the works of his hands, to become as the house of Jeroboam: for this cause he slew him, that is to say, Jehu the son of Hanani, the prophet.	7 Furthermore, the word of Yahweh was delivered through the prophet Jehu son of Hanani againstBaasha and his House, first because of the many ways in which he had displeased Yahweh, provoking him toanger by his actions and becoming like the House of Jeroboam; secondly because he had destroyed that House.
8 In the six and twentieth year of Asa king of Juda, Ela the son of Baasa reigned over Israel in Thersa two years.	8 In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah son of Baasha became king of Israel at Tirzah, fortwo years.
9 And his servant Zambri, who was captain of half the horsemen, rebelled against him: now Ela was drinking in Thersa, and drunk in the house of Arsa the governor of Thersa.	9 Zimri, one of his officers, captain of half his chariotry, plotted against him. While he was at Tirzah,drinking himself senseless in the house of Arza who was master of the palace in Tirzah,
10 And Zambri rushing in, struck him and slew him in the seven and twentieth year of Asa king of Juda, and he reigned in his stead.	10 Zimri came in, struck him down and kil ed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, andsucceeded him.
11 And when he was king and sat upon his throne, he slew all the house of Baasa, and he left not one thereof to piss against a wall, and all his kinsfolks and friends.	11 On his accession, as soon as he was seated on the throne, he butchered Baasha's entire family, notleaving him one manjack of them alive, neither relative nor friend.
12 And Zambri destroyed all the house of Baasa, according to the word of the Lord, that he had spoken to Baasa in the hand of Jehu the prophet,	12 Zimri destroyed the whole House of Baasha, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spokenagainst Baasha through the prophet Jehu,
13 For all the sins of Baasa, and the sins of Ela his son, who sinned, and made Israel to sin, provoking the Lord the God of Israel with their vanities.	13 because of all the sins of Baasha and his son Elah into which they had led Israel, provoking the angerof Yahweh, God of Israel, with their worthless idols.
14 But the rest of the acts of Ela, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?	14 The history of Elah, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings ofIsrael?
15 In the seven and twentieth year of Asa king of Juda, Zambri reigned seven days in Thersa: now the army was besieging Gebbethon a city of the Philistines.	15 In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri became king for seven days, at Tirzah. Thepeople were then encamped in front of Gibbethon, a Philistine town.
16 And when they heard that Zambri had rebelled, and slain the king, all Israel made Amri their king, who was general over Israel in the camp that day.	16 When news reached the camp of how Zimri had not only plotted against but actual y killed the king, alIsrael proclaimed the army commander Omri as king of Israel in the camp that very day.
17 And Amri went up, and all Israel with him from Gebbethon, and they besieged Thersa.	17 Omri, and all Israel with him, raised the siege of Gibbethon and laid siege to Tirzah.
18 And Zambri seeing that the city was about to be taken, went into the palace and burnt himself with the king's house: and he died	18 When Zimri saw that the town had been captured, he went into the keep of the royal palace, burnedthe palace over his own head, and died.
19 In his sins, which he had sinned, doing evil before the Lord, and walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin, wherewith he made Israel to sin.	19 This was because of the sin which he had committed in doing what is displeasing to Yahweh, bycopying the example of Jeroboam and the sin into which he had led Israel.
20 But the rest of the acts of Zambri, and of his conspiracy and tyranny, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?	20 The rest of the history of Zimri and of his conspiracy, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals ofthe Kings of Israel?
21 Then were the people of Israel divided into two parts: one half of the people followed Thebni the son of Gineth, to make him king: and one half followed Amri.	21 The people of Israel then split into two factions: one half fol owing Tibni son of Ginath to make himking, the other half fol owing Omri.
22 But the people that were with Amri, prevailed over the people that followed Thebni the son of Gineth: and Thebni died, and Amri reigned.	22 But the faction of Omri proved stronger than that of Tibni son of Ginath; thus Tibni lost his life andOmri became king.
23 In the one and thirtieth year of Asa king of Juda, Amri reigned over Israel twelve years: in Thersa he reigned six years.	23 In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king of Israel and reigned for twelve years.He reigned for six years at Tirzah.
24 And he bought the hill of Samaria of Semer for two talents of silver: and he built upon it, and he called the city which he built Samaria, after the name of Semer the owner of the hill.	24 Then for two talents of silver he bought the hil of Samaria from Shemer and on it built a town whichhe named Samaria after Shemer who had owned the hil .
25 And Amri did evil in the sight of the Lord, and acted wickedly above all that were before him.	25 Omri did what is displeasing to Yahweh, and was worse than al his predecessors.
26 And he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, and in his sins wherewith he made Israel to sin: to provoke the Lord the God of Israel to anger with their vanities.	26 In every way he copied the example of Jeroboam son of Nebat and the sins into which he had ledIsrael, provoking the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel, with their worthless idols.
27 Now the rest of the acts of Amri, and the battles he fought, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?	27 The rest of the history of Omri, his career, his valour, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals ofthe Kings of Israel?
28 And d Amri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria, and Achab his son reigned in his stead.	28 When Omri fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in Samaria; his son Ahab succeeded him.
29 Now Achab the son of Amri reigned over Israel in the eight and thirtieth year of Asa king of Juda. And Achab the son of Amri reigned over Israel in Samaria two and twenty years.	29 Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, and reignedover Israel for twenty-two years in Samaria.
30 And Achab the son of Amri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him.	30 Ahab son of Omri did what is displeasing to Yahweh, and was worse than al his predecessors.
31 Nor was it enough for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nabat: but he also took to wife Jezabel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians. And he went, and served Baal, and adored him.	31 The least that he did was to fol ow the sinful example of Jeroboam son of Nebat: he married Jezebeldaughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians, and then proceeded to serve Baal and worship him.
32 And he set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria,	32 He erected an altar to him in the temple of Baal which he built in Samaria.
33 And he planted a grove: and Achab did more to provoke the Lord the God of Israel, than all the kings of Israel that were before him.	33 Ahab also put up a sacred pole and committed other crimes as well, provoking the anger of Yahweh,God of Israel, more than all the kings of Israel his predecessors.
34 In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho: in Abiram his firstborn he laid its foundations: and in his youngest son Segub he set up the gates thereof: according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke in the hand of Josue the son of Nun.	34 It was in his time that Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. Laying its foundations cost him his eldest sonAbiram and erecting its gates cost him his youngest son Segub, just as Yahweh had foretold through Joshua sonof Nun.
