1 In the meantime God said to Jacob: Arise, and go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared to thee when thou didst flee from Esau thy brother.	1 Dios dijo a Jacob: «Levántate, sube a Betel y te estableces allí, haciendo un altar al Dios que se te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú.»
2 And Jacob having called together all his household, said: Cast away the strange gods that are among you, and be cleansed and change your garments.	2 Jacob dijo a su casa y a todos los que le acompañaban: «Retirad los dioses extraños que hay entre vosotros. Purificaos, y mudaos de vestido.
3 Arise, and let us go up to Bethel, that we may make there an altar to God: who heard me in the day of my affliction, and accompanied me in my journey.	3 Luego, levantémonos y subamos a Betel, y haré allí un altar al Dios que me dio respuesta favorable el día de mi tribulación, y que me asistió en mi viaje.»
4 So they gave him all the strange gods they had, and the earrings which were in their ears: and he buried them under the turpentine tree, that is behind the city of Sichem.	4 Ellos entregaron a Jacob todos los dioses extraños que había en su poder, y los anillos de sus orejas, y Jacob los escondió debajo de la encina que hay al pie de Siquem.
5 And when they were departed, the terror of God fell upon all the cities round about, and they durst not pursue after them as they went away.	5 Partieron, pues, y un pánico divino cayó sobre las ciudades de sus contornos; así no persiguieron a los hijos de Jacob.
6 And Jacob came to Luza, which is in the land of Chanaan, surnamed Bethel: he and all the people that were with him.	6 Jacob llegó a Luz, que está en territorio cananeo - es Betel - junto con todo el pueblo que le acompañaba,
7 And he built there an altar, and called the name of that place, The house of God: for there God appeared to him when he fled from his brother.	7 y edificó allí un altar, llamando al lugar El Betel, porque allí mismo se le había aparecido Dios cuando huía de su hermano.
8 At the same time Debora the nurse of Rebecca died, and was buried at the foot of Bethel under an oak: and the name of that place was called, The oak of weeping.	8 Débora, la nodriza de Rebeca, murió y fue sepultada en las inmediaciones de Betel, debajo de una encina; y él la llamó la Encina del Llanto.
9 And God appeared again to Jacob, after he returned from Mesopotamia of Syria, and he blessed him,	9 Dios se apareció a Jacob una vez más a su llegada de Paddán Aram y le bendijo.
10 Saying: Thou shalt not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name. And he called him Israel.	10 Díjole Dios: «Tu nombre es Jacob, pero ya no te llamarás Jacob, sino que tu nombre será Israel.» Y le llamó Israel.
11 And said to him: I am God Almighty, increase thou and be multiplied. Nations and peoples of nations shall be from thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins.	11 Díjole Dios: «Yo soy El Sadday. Sé fecundo y multiplícate. Un pueblo, una asamblea de pueblos tomará origen de ti y saldrán reyes de tus entrañas.
12 And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to thee, and to thy seed after thee.	12 La tierra que di a Abraham e Isaac, a ti te la doy, y a tu descendencia y sucesión daré esta tierra.»
13 And he departed from him.	13 Y Dios subió de su lado.
14 But he set up a monument of stone, in the place where God had spoken to him: pouring drink offerings upon it, and pouring oil thereon:	14 Jacob erigió una estela en el lugar donde había hablado Dios con él: una estela de piedra; derramó sobre ella una libación, y vertió sobre ella aceite.
15 And calling the name of that place Bethel.	15 Jacob llamó a lugar donde había hablado Dios con él «Betel».
16 And going forth from thence, he came in the springtime to the land which leadeth to Ephrata: wherein when Rachel was in travail,	16 Partieron de Betel, y cuando aún faltaba un trecho hasta Efratá, Raquel tuvo un mal parto.
17 By reason of her hard labor she began to be in danger, and the midwife said to her: Fear not, for thou shalt have this son also.	17 Sucedió que, en medio de los apuros del parto, le dijo la comadrona: «¡Animo, que también este es hijo!»
18 And when her soul was departing for pain, and death was now at hand, she called the name of her son Benoni, that is, The son of my pain: but his father called him Benjamin, that is, The son of the right hand.	18 Entonces ella, al exhalar el alma, cuando moría, le llamó Ben Oní; pero su padre le llamó Benjamín.
19 So Rachel died, and was buried in the highway that leadeth to Ephrata, that is Bethlehem.	19 Murió Raquel y fue sepultada en el camino de Efratá, o sea Belén.
20 And Jacob erected a pillar over her sepulcher: this is the pillar of Rachel's monument, to this day.	20 Jacob erigió una estela sobre su sepulcro: es la estela del sepulcro de Raquel hasta hoy.
21 Departing thence, he pitched his tent beyond the Flock tower.	21 Israel partió y desplegó su tienda más allá de Migdal Eder.
22 And when he dwelt in that country, Ruben went, and slept with Bala, the concubine of his father: which he was not ignorant of. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.	22 Sucedió por entonces, mientras Israel residía en aquel país, que fue Rubén y se acostó con Bilhá, la concubina de su padre, e Israel se enteró de ello. Los hijos de Jacob fueron doce.
23 The sons of Lia: Ruben the firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Juda, and Issachar, and Zebulon.	23 Hijos de Lía: el primogénito de Jacob, Rubén; después Simeón, Leví, Judá, Isacar y Zabulón.
24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.	24 Hijos de Raquel: José y Benjamín.
25 The sons of Bala, Rachel's handmaid: Dan and Naphthali.	25 Hijos de Bilhá, la esclava de Raquel: Dan y Neftalí.
26 The sons of Zelpha, Lia's handmaid: Gad and Aser: these are the sons of Jacob, that were born to him in Mesopotamia of Syria.	26 Hijos de Zilpá, la esclava de Lía: Gad y Aser. Estos fueron los hijos de Jacob, que le nacieron en Paddán Aram.
27 And he came to Isaac his father in Mambre, the city of Arbee, this is Hebron: Wherein Abraham and Isaac sojourned.	27 Jacob llegó adonde su padre Isaac, a Mambré o Quiryat Arbá, - o sea, Hebrón - donde residieron Abraham e Isaac.
28 And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.	28 Isaac alcanzó la edad de 180 años.
29 And being spent with age he died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.	29 Entonces Isaac expiró y murió, fue a reunirse con su pueblo, anciano y lleno de días. Le sepultaron sus hijos Esaú y Jacob.
