Giosuè 23

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ORA, lungo tempo appresso che il Signore ebbe dato riposo a Israele da tutti i suoi nemici d’ogn’intorno, Giosuè, essendo vecchio ed attempato,	1 Now long after Yahweh had given Israel rest from al the enemies surrounding them -- Joshua was oldnow, far advanced in years-
2 chiamò tutto Israele, gli Anziani, e i Capi, e i Giudici, e gli Ufficiali di esso, e disse loro: Io sono omai vecchio ed attempato;	2 Joshua summoned al Israel, their elders, leaders, judges and officials, and said to them, 'I myself amold, far advanced in years;
3 e voi avete veduto tutto ciò che il Signore Iddio vostro ha fatto a tutte queste genti per cagion vostra; conciossiachè il Signore Iddio vostro sia quel che ha combattuto per voi.	3 you for your part have witnessed al that Yahweh your God has done to al these nations for your sake;Yahweh your God himself has fought for you.
4 Ecco, io vi ho spartito a sorte, per eredità, secondo le vostre tribù, il paese di queste genti che restano, insieme col paese di tutte quelle che io ho sterminate, cioè dal Giordano, infino al mar grande, verso il Ponente.	4 Look, these nations stil remaining, and al the nations which I have exterminated from the Jordan althe way to the Great Sea in the west, I have al otted to you as the heritage for your tribes.
5 E il Signore Iddio vostro disperderà quelle dal vostro cospetto, e le scaccerà d’innanzi a voi; e voi possederete il lor paese, come il Signore Iddio vostro ve ne ha parlato.	5 Yahweh your God wil himself drive them out before you; he wil dispossess them before you and youwil take possession of their country, as Yahweh your God has promised you.
6 Perciò, fortificatevi vie più, per osservare, e per fare tutto quello che è scritto nel Libro della Legge di Mosè; acciocchè non ve ne rivolgiate nè a destra nè a sinistra;	6 'So be very firm about keeping and doing everything written in the Book of the Law of Moses, notswerving from that either to right or to left.
7 e non entriate da queste genti che restano appresso di voi, e non ricordiate il nome de’ loro dii, e non li usiate in giuramenti, e non serviate loro, e non li adoriate.	7 Never mix with the peoples who are stil left beside you. Do not utter the names of their gods, do notswear by them, do not serve them and do not bow down to them.
8 Anzi vi atteniate al Signore Iddio vostro, come avete fatto infino ad oggi.	8 On the contrary, you must be loyal to Yahweh your God as you have been til now.
9 Onde il Signore ha cacciate dal cospetto vostro delle nazioni grandi e potenti; e niuno è potuto starvi a fronte fino ad oggi.	9 Yahweh has dispossessed great and powerful nations before you, and no one so far has been able toresist you.
10 Un solo uomo d’infra voi ne perseguiterà mille; perciocchè il Signore Iddio vostro è quel che combatte per voi; come egli ve ne ha parlato	10 One man of you was able to rout a thousand of them, since Yahweh your God was himself fighting foryou, as he had promised you.
11 Prendetevi adunque diligentemente guardia, sopra le anime vostre, di amare il Signore Iddio vostro.	11 Be very careful, as you value your life, to love Yahweh your God.
12 Perciocchè, se pur voi vi rivoltate, e vi congiungete col rimanente di queste genti, che son rimaste appresso di voi, e v’imparentate con loro, ed entrate da loro, ed esse entrano da voi,	12 'But should you in any way relapse, if you make friends with the remnant of these nations stil livingbeside you, if you intermarry with them, if you mix with them and they with you,
13 sappiate di certo che il Signore Iddio vostro non continuerà di scacciar queste genti d’innanzi a voi; anzi esse vi saranno per laccio, ed intoppo, e flagello a’ fianchi, e spine agli occhi, finchè periate d’in su questa buona terra, che il Signore Iddio vostro vi ha data.	13 then know for certain that Yahweh your God wil stop dispossessing these nations before you, and foryou they will be a snare, a pitfal , thorns in your sides and thistles in your eyes, until you vanish from this finecountry given you by Yahweh your God.
14 Or ecco, io me ne vo oggi per la via di tutta la terra; riconoscete adunque con tutto il cuor vostro, e con tutta l’anima vostra, che non pure una di tutte le buone parole che il Signore Iddio vostro vi avea dette, è caduta in terra; ogni cosa vi è avvenuta; non ne è caduta in terra una sola parola.	14 'Today, you see, I am going the way of al the earth. Acknowledge with all your heart and soul that ofal the promises made to you by Yahweh your God, not one has failed: al have been fulfil ed -- not one hasfailed.
15 Ma egli avverrà che, come ogni buona parola che il Signore Iddio vostro vi avea detta, vi è avvenuta, così il Signore farà venir sopra voi ogni malvagia parola, finchè vi abbia sterminati d’in su questa buona terra, la quale il Signore Iddio vostro vi ha data;	15 'As every promise made to you by Yahweh your God has been fulfil ed for you, by the same tokenYahweh wil fulfil al his threats against you, even to exterminating you from this fine country given you by Yahweh your God.
16 se voi trasgredite il patto del Signore Iddio vostro, il quale egli vi ha comandato, e andate a servire ad altri dii, e li adorate. E l’ira del Signore si accenderà contro a voi, e perirete subitamente d’in su questa buona terra, la quale egli vi ha data	16 'For if you violate the covenant which Yahweh your God has imposed on you, if you go and serveother gods and bow down to them, then Yahweh's anger wil be roused against you and you will quickly vanishfrom the fine country which he has given you.'
