| 1 Por eso, nosotros debemos prestar más atención a lo que hemos escuchado, no sea que marchemos a la deriva. | 1 Therefore we must pay the closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. |
| 2 Porque si la Palabra promulgada por medio de los ángeles tuvo plena vigencia, a tal punto que toda transgresión y desobediencia recibió su justa retribución, | 2 For if the message declared by angels was valid and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, |
| 3 ¿cómo nos libraremos nosotros, si rehusamos semejante salvación? Esta salvación, anunciada en primer lugar por el Señor, nos fue luego confirmada por todos aquellos que la habían oído anunciar, | 3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard him, |
| 4 mientras Dios añadía su testimonio con signos y prodigios, con toda clase de milagros y con los dones del Espíritu Santo, distribuidos según su voluntad. | 4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his own will. |
| 5 Porque Dios no ha sometido a los ángeles el mundo venidero del que nosotros hablamos. | 5 For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. |
| 6 Acerca de esto, hay un testimonio que dice: "¿Qué es el hombre para que te acuerdes de él, el ser humano para que te ocupes de él? | 6 It has been testified somewhere, "What is man that thou art mindful of him, or the son of man, that thou carest for him? |
| 7 Por poco tiempo lo pusiste debajo de los ángeles y lo coronaste de gloria y esplendor. | 7 Thou didst make him for a little while lower than the angels, thou hast crowned him with glory and honor, |
| 8 Todo lo sometiste bajo sus pies". Si Dios le ha sometido todas las cosas, nada ha quedado fuera de su dominio. | 9 Pero a aquel que fue puesto por poco tiempo debajo de los ángeles, a Jesús, ahora lo vemos coronado de gloria y esplendor, a causa de la muerte que padeció. Así, por la gracia de Dios, él experimentó la muerte en favor de todos. | 9 But we see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for every one. |
| 10 Convenía, en efecto, que aquel por quien y para quien existen todas las cosas, a fin de llevar a la gloria a un gran número de hijos, perfeccionara, por medio del sufrimiento, al jefe que los conduciría a la salvación. | 10 For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering. |
| 11 Porque el que santifica y los que son santificados, tienen todos un mismo origen. Por eso, él no se avergüenza de llamarlos hermanos, | 11 For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brethren, |
| 12 cuando dice: "Yo anunciaré tu Nombre a mis hermanos, te alabaré en medio de la asamblea". | 12 saying, "I will proclaim thy name to my brethren, in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee." |
| 13 Y también: "En él pondré mi confianza". Y además: "Aquí estamos yo y los hijos que Dios me ha dado". | 13 And again, "I will put my trust in him." And again, "Here am I, and the children God has given me." |
| 14 Y ya que los hijos tienen una misma sangre y una misma carne, él también debía participar de esa condición, para reducir a la impotencia, mediante su muerte, a aquel que tenía el dominio de la muerte, es decir, al demonio, | 14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature, that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil, |
| 15 y liberar de este modo a todos los que vivían completamente esclavizados por el temor de la muerte. | 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong bondage. |
| 16 Porque él no vino para socorrer a los ángeles, sino a los descendientes de Abraham. | 16 For surely it is not with angels that he is concerned but with the descendants of Abraham. |
| 17 En consecuencia, debió hacerse semejante en todo a sus hermanos, para llegar a ser un Sumo Sacerdote misericordioso y fiel en el servicio de Dios, a fin de expiar los pecados del pueblo. | 17 Therefore he had to be made like his brethren in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make expiation for the sins of the people. |
| 18 Y por haber experimentado personalmente la prueba y el sufrimiento, él puede ayudar a aquellos que están sometidos a la prueba. | 18 For because he himself has suffered and been tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted. |
