Hechos de los Apóstoles 14

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 En Iconio, Pablo y Bernabé entraron en la sinagoga de los judíos, como lo hacían habitualmente, y predicaron de tal manera que un gran número de judíos y paganos abrazaron la fe.	1 It happened that at Iconium they went to the Jewish synagogue, in the same way, and they spoke soeffectively that a great many Jews and Greeks became believers.
2 Pero los judíos que no creyeron, incitaron a los paganos y los indispusieron en contra de los hermanos.	2 (However, the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the gentiles against the brothers and set them inopposition.)
3 A pesar de todo, Pablo y Bernabé prolongaron su estadía y hablaban con toda libertad, confiados en el Señor que confirmaba el mensaje de su gracia, dándoles el poder de realizar signos y prodigios.	3 Accordingly Paul and Barnabas stayed on for some time, preaching fearlessly in the Lord; and heattested al they said about his gift of grace, al owing signs and wonders to be performed by them.
4 Los habitantes de la ciudad se dividieron en dos bandos, uno en favor de los judíos y otro en favor de los Apóstoles.	4 The people in the city were divided; some supported the Jews, others the apostles,
5 Pero como los paganos y los judíos, dirigidos por sus jefes, intentaron maltratar y apedrear a los Apóstoles,	5 but eventual y with the connivance of the authorities a move was made by gentiles as well as Jews tomake attacks on them and to stone them.
6 estos, al enterarse, huyeron a Listra y a Derbe, ciudades de Licaonia, y a sus alrededores;	6 When they came to hear of this, they went off for safety to Lycaonia where, in the towns of Lystra andDerbe and in the surrounding country,
7 y allí anunciaron la Buena Noticia.	7 they preached the good news.
8 Había en Listra un hombre que tenía las piernas paralizadas. Como era tullido de nacimiento, nunca había podido caminar,	8 There was a man sitting there who had never walked in his life, because his feet were crippled frombirth;
9 y sentado, escuchaba hablar a Pablo. Este mirándolo fijamente, vio que tenía la fe necesaria para ser curado,	9 he was listening to Paul preaching, and Paul looked at him intently and saw that he had the faith to becured.
10 y le dijo en voz alta: «Levántate, y permanece erguido sobre tus pies». El se levantó de un salto y comenzó a caminar.	10 Paul said in a loud voice, 'Get to your feet-stand up,' and the cripple jumped up and began to walk.
11 Al ver lo que Pablo acababa de hacer, la multitud comenzó a gritar en dialecto licaonio: «Los dioses han descendido hasta nosotros en forma humana,	11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done they shouted in the language of Lycaonia, 'The gods havecome down to us in human form.'
12 y daban a Bernabé el nombre de Júpiter, y a Pablo el de Mercurio porque era el que llevaba la palabra.	12 They addressed Barnabas as Zeus, and since Paul was the principal speaker they cal ed himHermes.
13 El sacerdote del templo de Júpiter que estaba a la entrada de la ciudad, trajo al atrio unos toros adornados de guirnaldas y, junto con la multitud, se disponía a sacrificarlos.	13 The priests of Zeus-outside-the-Gate, proposing that al the people should offer sacrifice with them,brought garlanded oxen to the gates.
14 Cuando Pablo y Bernabé se enteraron de esto, rasgaron sus vestiduras y se precipitaron en medio de la muchedumbre, gritando:	14 When the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening they tore their clothes, and rushedinto the crowd, shouting,
15 «Amigos, ¿qué están haciendo? Nosotros somos seres humanos como ustedes, y hemos venido a anunciarles que deben abandonar esos ídolos para convertirse al Dios viviente que hizo el cielo y la tierra, el mar y todo lo que hay en ellos.	15 'Friends, what do you think you are doing? We are only human beings, mortal like yourselves. Wehave come with good news to make you turn from these empty idols to the living God who made sky and earthand the sea and all that these hold.
16 En los tiempos pasados, él permitió que las naciones siguieran sus propios caminos.	16 In the past he al owed al the nations to go their own way;
17 Sin embargo, nunca dejó de dar testimonio de sí mismo, prodigando sus beneficios, enviando desde el cielo lluvias y estaciones fecundas, dando el alimento y llenando de alegría los corazones».	17 but even then he did not leave you without evidence of himself in the good things he does for you: hesends you rain from heaven and seasons of fruitfulness; he fil s you with food and your hearts with merriment.'
18 Pero a pesar de todo lo que dijeron, les costó mucho impedir que la multitud les ofreciera un sacrificio	18 With this speech they just managed to prevent the crowd from offering them sacrifice.
19 Vinieron de Antioquía y de Iconio algunos judíos que lograron convencer a la multitud. Entonces apedrearon a Pablo y, creyéndolo muerto, lo arrastraron fuera de la ciudad.	19 Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and turned the people against them. They stonedPaul and dragged him outside the town, thinking he was dead.
20 Pero él se levantó y, rodeado de sus discípulos, regresó a la ciudad. Al día siguiente, partió con Bernabé rumbo a Derbe.	20 The disciples came crowding round him but, as they did so, he stood up and went back to the town.The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.
21 Después de haber evangelizado esta ciudad y haber hechos numerosos discípulos, volvieron a Listra, a Iconio y a Antioquía de Pisidia.	21 Having preached the good news in that town and made a considerable number of disciples, they wentback through Lystra, Iconium and Antioch.
22 Confortaron a sus discípulos y los exhortaron a perseverar en la fe, recordándoles que es necesario pasar por muchas tribulaciones para entrar en el Reino de Dios.	22 They put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith, saying, 'We mustal experience many hardships before we enter the kingdom of God.'
23 En cada comunidad establecieron presbíteros, y con oración y ayuno, los encomendaron al Señor en el que habían creído.	23 In each of these churches they appointed elders, and with prayer and fasting they commended themto the Lord in whom they had come to believe.
24 Atravesaron Pisidia y llegaron a Panfilia.	24 They passed through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.
25 Luego anunciaron la Palabra en Perge y descendieron a Atalía.	25 Then after proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia
26 Allí se embarcaron para Antioquía, donde habían sido encomendados a la gracia de Dios para realizar la misión que acababa de cumplir.	26 and from there sailed for Antioch, where they had original y been commended to the grace of God forthe work they had now completed.
27 A su llegada, convocaron a los miembros de la Iglesia y les contaron todo lo que Dios había hecho con ellos y cómo había abierto la puerta de la fe a los paganos.	27 On their arrival they assembled the church and gave an account of all that God had done with them,and how he had opened the door of faith to the gentiles.
28 Después permanecieron largo tiempo con los discípulos.	28 They stayed there with the disciples for some time.
