Levítico 11

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 El Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón:	1 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:
2 Hablen en estos términos a los israelitas: Ustedes podrán comer cualquier animal terrestre	2 Say to the children of Israel: These are the animals which you are to eat of all the living things of the earth.
3 que tenga las pezuñas partidas –es decir, divididas en dos mitades– y que sea rumiante.	3 Whatsoever hath the hoof divided, and cheweth the cud among the beasts, you shall eat.
4 Pero se abstendrán de comer los siguientes animales, a pesar de que tienen la pezuña partida o son rumiantes: el camello,	4 But whatsoever cheweth indeed the cud, and hath a hoof, but divideth it not, as the camel, and others, that you shall not eat, but shall reckon it among the unclean.
5 el damán	5 The cherogrillus which cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof, is unclean.
6 y la liebre, porque son rumiantes, pero no tienen las pezuñas partidas;	6 The hare also: for that too cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof.
7 y también el cerdo, porque tiene las pezuñas partidas, pero no es rumiante: a este deberán considerarlo impuro.	7 And the swine, which, though it divideth the hoof, cheweth not the cud.
8 Ustedes no comerán la carne de estos animales ni tocarán sus cadáveres, sino que deberán considerarlos impuros.	8 The flesh of these you shall not eat, nor shall you touch their carcasses, because they are unclean to you.
9 Entre los animales que viven en el agua, ya sea en el mar o en los ríos, ustedes podrán comer aquellos que tienen aletas y escamas.	9 These are the things that breed in the waters, and which it is lawful to eat. All that hath fins, and scales, as well in the sea, as in the rivers, and the pools, you shall eat.
10 Pero deberán tener por una cosa inmunda a cualquier animal que carezca de aletas y escamas, entre los seres que se mueven por las aguas y entre los vivientes que están en las aguas, ya sea en el mar o en los ríos.	10 But whatsoever hath not fins and scales, of those things that move and live in the waters, shall be an abomination to you,
11 No comerán su carne y sentirán repulsión por sus cadáveres.	11 And detestable : their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall avoid.
12 Todo lo que vive en el agua y no tiene aletas ni escamas, será para ustedes una cosa inmunda.	12 All that have not fins and scales, in the waters, shall be unclean.
13 También deberán considerar inmundas –y por lo tanto, no las podrán comer– a las siguientes aves: el águila, el quebrantahuesos, el águila marina,	13 Of birds these are they which you must not eat, and which are to be avoided by you: The eagle, and the griffon, and the osprey,
14 el milano, las diversas especies de halcón,	14 And the kite, and the vulture, according to their kind,
15 todas las variedades de cuervos,	15 And all that is of the raven kind, according to their likeness.
16 el avestruz, la golondrina, la gaviota,	16 The ostrich, and the owl, and the larus, and the hawk according to its kind.
17 la lechuza, el corvejón, el búho,	17 The screech owl, and the cormorant, and the ibis,
18 el ibis, el pelícano, el buitre,	18 And the swan, and the bittern, and the porphyrion,
19 la cigüeña, las diversas especies de garza, la abubilla y el murciélago.	19 The heron, and the charadrion according to its kind, the houp also, and the bat.
20 Además, ustedes deberán considerar inmundos a todos los insectos con alas que andan sobre cuatro patas.	20 Of things that fly, whatsoever goeth upon four feet, shall be abominable to you.
21 Pero podrán comer, entre los animales de esta clase, todos aquellos que tienen más largas las patas de atrás, y por eso pueden saltar sobre el suelo,	21 But whatsoever walketh upon four feet, but hath the legs behind longer, wherewith it hoppeth upon the earth,
22 o sea, todas las variedades de langostas y grillos.	22 That you shall eat, as the bruchus in its kind, the attacus, and ophiomachus, and the locust, every one according to their kind.
23 Cualquier otro insecto alado que tenga cuatro patas, será para ustedes una cosa inmunda.	23 But of dying things whatsoever hath four feet only, shall be an abomination to you:
24 A causa de estos animales, ustedes podrán incurrir en impureza. El que toque sus cadáveres, será impuro hasta la tarde.	24 And whosoever shall touch the carcasses of them, shall be defiled, and shall be unclean until the evening:
25 El que levante el cadáver de alguno de ellos, tendrá que lavar su ropa y será impuro hasta la tarde.	25 And if it be necessary that he carry any of these things when they are dead, he shall wash his clothes, and shall be unclean until the sun set.
26 Asimismo, todos los animales que no tengan las pezuñas partidas y que no sean rumiantes, serán impuros para ustedes. El que los toque será impuro.	26 Every beast that hath a hoof, but divideth it not, nor cheweth the cud, shall be unclean: and he that toucheth it, shall be defiled.
27 Todos los cuadrúpedos que para caminar se apoyan sobre la planta de los pies, serán impuros para ustedes. El que toque sus cadáveres, será impuro hasta la tarde,	27 That which walketh upon hands of all animals which go on all four, shall be unclean: he that shall touch their carcasses shall be defiled until evening.
28 y el que levante el cadáver de alguno de ellos, tendrá que lavar su ropa y será impuro hasta la tarde. Ustedes deberán considerarlos impuros.	28 And he that shall carry such carcasses, shall wash his clothes, and shall be unclean until evening: because all these things are unclean to you.
29 Entre los animales pequeños que caminan arrastrándose por el suelo, serán impuros para ustedes los siguientes: el topo, el ratón y las diversas especies de lagartos;	29 These also shall be reckoned among unclean things, of all that move upon the earth, the weasel, and the mouse, and the crocodile, every one according to their kind:
30 las diferentes clases de lagartijas, la salamandra y el camaleón.	30 The shrew, and the chameleon, and the stello, and the lizard, and the mole:
31 Ustedes deberán considerar impuros a todos estos animales pequeños. El que toque sus cadáveres, será impuro hasta la tarde.	31 All these are unclean. He that toucheth their carcasses shall be unclean until the evening.
32 También será impuro el objeto sobre el que caiga el cadáver de alguno de ellos, sea que se trate de un objeto de madera, de una prenda de vestir, de un cuero, de una bolsa, o de cualquier otra cosa que preste alguna utilidad. Estos objetos deberán ser sumergidos en el agua y serán impuros hasta la tarde; después serán puros.	32 And upon what thing soever any of their carcasses shall fall, it shall be defiled, whether it be a vessel of wood, or a garment, or skins or haircloths; or any thing in which work is done, they shall be dipped in water, and shall be unclean until the evening, and so afterwards shall be clean.
33 Si uno de estos cadáveres cae en una vasija de barro, todo lo que haya dentro de ella será impuro y la vasija se deberá romper.	33 But an earthen vessel, into which any of these shall fall, shall be defiled, and therefore is to be broken.
34 Cualquier comestible que entre en contacto con el agua contenida en esa vasija, será impuro, y cualquier bebida se volverá impura a causa de esa vasija.	34 Any meat which you eat, if water from such a vessel be poured upon it, shall be unclean; and every liquor that is drunk out of any such vessel, shall be unclean.
35 El objeto sobre el que caiga alguno de esos cadáveres, será impuro. Si se trata de un horno o de un fogón, tendrán que ser derribados: son impuros, y ustedes tendrán que considerarlos como tales.	35 And upon whatsoever thing any of these dead beasts shall fall, it shall be unclean: whether it be oven, or pots with feet, they shall be destroyed, and shall be unclean.
36 Sin embargo, la fuente o la cisterna donde se recoge el agua, permanecer[a pura, pero el que toque uno de esos cadáveres será impuro.	36 But fountains and cisterns, and all gatherings together of waters shall be clean. He that toucheth their carcasses shall be defiled.
37 Y si un cadáver cae sobre la semilla que a ser sembrada, esta será pura.	37 If it fall upon seed corn, it shall not defile it.
38 En cambio, si se arroja agua sobre la semilla y algo de esos cadáveres cae sobre ella, ustedes deberán tenerla por impura.	38 But if any man pour water upon the seed, and afterwards it be touched by the carcasses, it shall be forthwith defiled.
39 Si muere un animal que ustedes pueden comer, el que toque el cadáver será impuro hasta la tarde.	39 If any beast die, of which it is lawful for you to eat, he that toucheth the carcass thereof, shall be unclean until the evening:
40 El que coma carne de ese cadáver deberá lavar su ropa y será impuro hasta la tarde; y el que levante el cadáver deberá lavar su ropa y será impuro hasta la tarde.	40 And he that eateth or carrieth any thing thereof, shall wash his clothes, and shall be unclean until the evening.
41 Todos los animales que se arrastran por el suelo son una cosa inmunda: no está permitido comerlos.	41 All that creepeth upon the earth shall be abominable, neither shall it be taken for meat.
42 Por lo tanto, ustedes no comerán ningún reptil que se arrastra sobre su vientre, ningún insecto que camina sobre cuatro patas o que tiene muchas patas, y ningún otro animal que arrastra el suelo, porque son algo inmundo.	42 Whatsoever goeth upon the breast on four feet, or hath many feet, or traileth on the earth, you shall not eat, because it is abominable.
43 No se contaminen ustedes mismos a causa de esos animales. No incurran en impureza a causa de ellos, para no quedar contaminados.	43 Do not defile your souls, nor touch aught thereof, lest you be unclean,
44 Porque yo soy el Señor, su Dios, y ustedes tienen que santificarse y ser santos, porque yo soy santo. No incurran en impureza a causa de esos animales que se arrastran por el suelo.	44 For I am the Lord your God: be holy because I am holy. Defile not your souls by any creeping thing, that moveth upon the earth.
45 Porque yo soy el Señor, el que los hice subir del país de Egipto para ser su Dios. Ustedes serán santos, porque yo soy santo.	45 For I am the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that I might be your God.
46 Estas son las instrucciones acerca de los animales, de las aves, de todos los seres vivientes que se mueven en las aguas, y de todos los demás animales que se arrastran por el suelo.	46 You shall be holy, because I am holy. This is the law of beasts and fowls, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and creepeth on the earth:
47 Así se establecerá una distinción entre lo puro y lo impuro, y entre los seres vivientes que está permitido comer y los que no pueden ser comidos.	47 That you may know the differences of the clean, and unclean, and know what you ought to eat, and what to refuse.
