1 Quand toute la nation termina de traverser, Yahvé dit à Josué:	1 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,
2 “Choisissez parmi vous douze hommes dans le peuple, un par tribu.	2 Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,
3 Vous leur demanderez de prendre douze pierres au milieu du Jourdain, là où se sont arrêtés les pieds des prêtres. Vous les emporterez avec vous et vous les déposerez à l’endroit où vous passerez la nuit.”	3 And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.
4 Josué réunit les douze hommes qu’il avait choisis parmi les Israélites, un pour chaque tribu.	4 Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:
5 Josué leur dit: “Passez au milieu du Jourdain, et prenez chacun une pierre sur votre épaule selon le nombre des tribus d’Israël.	5 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:
6 Elles seront un signe pour vous, quand demain vos fils vous poseront cette question: ‘Que signifient pour vous ces pierres?’	6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?
7 Alors vous leur répondrez: ‘Les eaux du Jourdain se sont séparées devant l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé quand elle traversa le Jourdain.’ Pour toujours ces pierres en seront le rappel pour les Israélites.”	7 Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.
8 Les Israélites firent donc comme Josué l’avait ordonné. Ils prirent douze pierres au milieu du Jourdain, comme Yahvé l’avait dit à Josué, selon le nombre des tribus d’Israël, et ils les emportèrent avec eux pour les déposer à l’endroit où ils s’arrêtèrent.	8 And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the LORD spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.
9 Josué fit dresser douze pierres au milieu du Jourdain, à l’endroit où s’étaient arrêtés les pieds des prêtres qui portaient l’Arche de l’Alliance, et elles y sont encore aujourd’hui.	9 And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.
10 Les prêtres qui portaient l’Arche, s’étaient arrêtés au milieu du Jourdain jusqu’à ce qu’on ait fini de dire au peuple tout ce que Yahvé avait ordonné. Alors, tout le peuple se dépêcha de traverser.	10 For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.
11 Lorsque tout le peuple eut achevé de traverser, l’Arche de Yahvé passa et les prêtres se mirent de nouveau en tête du peuple.	11 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.
12 Comme Moïse l’avait demandé, la tribu de Ruben, la tribu de Gad et la demi tribu de Manassé passèrent en armes en tête des Israélites.	12 And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:
13 C’étaient environ 40 000 hommes qui formaient l’avant-garde de Yahvé et qui s’avançaient vers les Steppes de Jéricho.	13 About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.
14 Ce jour-là Yahvé grandit Josué aux yeux de tout Israël, et on le craignit comme on avait craint Moïse durant toute sa vie.	14 On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.
15 Yahvé dit à Josué:	15 And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,
16 “Donne aux prêtres qui portent l’Arche du Témoignage, l’ordre de remonter du Jourdain.”	16 Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.
17 Josué donna donc cet ordre aux prêtres: “Remontez du Jourdain!”	17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.
18 Or lorsque les prêtres qui portaient l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé remontèrent du Jourdain, lorsque les prêtres touchèrent de leurs pieds la terre ferme, les eaux du Jourdain revinrent à leur place et débordèrent comme les jours antérieurs sur leurs deux rives.	18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.
19 C’était le 10 du premier mois; le peuple remonta du Jourdain et dressa son camp à Guilgal, à l’orient de Jéricho.	19 And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.
20 Josué fit dresser à Guilgal les douze pierres qu’il avait prises dans le Jourdain.	20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.
21 Il dit ensuite aux Israélites: “Lorsque demain vos fils demanderont à leurs pères ce que font ici ces pierres,	21 And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?
22 vous leur répondrez: C’est parce qu’Israël a traversé ce Jourdain à pied sec.	22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.
23 Oui, Yahvé a mis à sec les eaux du Jourdain devant vous, jusqu’à ce que tout le monde ait traversé. Yahvé votre Dieu avait fait de même pour la mer des Roseaux: il l’avait mise à sec devant nous jusqu’à ce que tout le monde ait traversé.	23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
24 Que tous les peuples de la terre sachent donc combien est puissante la main de Yahvé! Quant à vous, craignez toujours Yahvé votre Dieu.”	24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.
