1 Une parole de Yahvé me fut adressée: Descends au palais du roi de Juda, et là tu prononceras cette parole.	1 Thus saith the Lord: Go down to the house of the king of Juda, and there thou shalt speak this word,
2 Tu diras: Écoute la parole de Yahvé, roi de Juda, toi qui sièges sur le trône de David. Toi, tes serviteurs et ton peuple qui passez par ces portes, écoutez!	2 And thou shalt say: Hear the word of the Lord, O king of Juda, that sittest upon the throne of David: thou and thy servants, and thy people, who enter in by these gates.
3 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Pratiquez le droit et la justice, libérez celui qui est opprimé de la main de l’oppresseur! Ne faites pas violence, n’exploitez pas l’étranger, l’orphelin et la veuve; ne répandez pas en ce lieu le sang innocent.	3 Thus saith the Lord: Execute judgement and justice, and deliver him that is oppressed out of the hand of the oppressor: and afflict not the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, nor oppress them unjustly: and shed not innocent blood in this place.
4 Si vous faites cela, des rois successeurs de David entreront par les portes de ce palais avec chars et chevaux, avec leurs serviteurs et leur peuple.	4 For if you will do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house, kings of the race of David sitting upon his throne, and riding in chariots and on horses, they and their servants, and their people.
5 Mais si vous n’écoutez pas ces paroles, je le jure par moi-même - parole de Yahvé - ce palais sera ruiné.	5 But if you will not hearken to these words: I swear by myself, saith the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.
6 Car voici ce que dit Yahvé à propos de la maison de Juda: J’aimais te voir élevée, comme le pays de Galaad, comme le sommet du Liban. Mais je le jure, je vais faire de toi un désert, une ville sans habitants.	6 For thus saith the Lord to the house of the king of Juda: Thou art to me Galaad the head of Libanus: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities not habitable.
7 J’envoie contre toi des destructeurs, chacun avec ses outils; ils couperont tes plus beaux cèdres et les jetteront au feu.	7 And I will prepare against thee the destroyer and his weapons: and they shall cut down thy chosen cedars, and shall cast them headlong into the fire.
8 Quand les gens de toute nation passeront par cette ville, ils se diront l’un à l’autre: “Pourquoi Yahvé a-t-il traité ainsi cette grande ville?”	8 And many nations shall pass by this city: and they shall say every man to his neighbor: Why hath the Lord done so to this great city?
9 On répondra: “C’est parce qu’ils ont abandonné l’Alliance de Yahvé leur Dieu et qu’ils se sont prosternés devant d’autres dieux pour les servir.”	9 And they shall answer: Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God, and have adored strange gods, and served them.
10 Ne pleurez pas celui qui est mort, ne vous lamentez pas sur lui; pleurez, pleurez plutôt celui qui est parti et qui ne reviendra plus, car il ne reverra pas le pays où il est né!	10 Weep not for him that is dead, nor bemoan him with your tears: lament him that goeth away, for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.
11 Voici en effet ce que dit Yahvé à propos de Challoum, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, qui a régné à la place de son père et a dû quitter ce lieu: “Il n’y reviendra pas”.	11 For thus saith the Lord to Sellum the son of Josias the king of Juda, who reigned instead of his father, who went forth out of this place: He shall return hither no more:
12 Il mourra là où on l’a emmené prisonnier, il ne reverra jamais ce pays!	12 But in the place, to which I have removed him, there shall he die, and he shall not see this land any more.
13 Malheur à celui qui construit son palais de façon malhonnête, et se fait des terrasses en ne respectant pas les droits! Malheur à celui qui fait travailler son prochain pour rien, sans lui verser le prix de son travail!	13 Woe to him that buildeth up his house by injustice, and his chambers not in judgement: that will oppress his friend without cause, and will not pay him his wages.
14 Il se dit: “Je vais construire un palais grandiose avec de belles terrasses”. Il y perce des fenêtres, il le couvre d’un plafond de cèdre et le décore de peintures…	14 Who saith: I will build me a wide house and large chambers: who openeth to himself windows, and maketh roofs of cedar, and painteth them with vermilion.
15 Crois-tu qu’il faille tant de cèdre pour être roi? Ton père n’a-t-il pas eu à manger et à boire? Et tout allait bien pour lui! Mais il pratiquait le droit et la justice,	15 Shalt thou reign, because thou comparest thyself to the cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and it was then well with him?
16 il jugeait la cause du pauvre et du petit. N’est-ce pas cela me connaître? - parole de Yahvé.	16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy for his own good: was it not therefore because he knew me, saith the Lord?
17 Mais tu ne vois et ne connais que ton propre intérêt, tu répands le sang innocent et tu maintiens l’oppression et la violence.	17 But thy eyes and thy heart are set upon covetousness, and upon shedding innocent blood, and upon oppression, and running after evil works.
18 C’est pourquoi voici ce que dit Yahvé au sujet de Joïaqim fils de Josias, roi de Juda: On ne dira pas sur lui la lamentation: Hélas mon frère, hélas ma sœur! On ne dira pas sur lui la lamentation: Hélas mon seigneur, hélas majesté!	18 Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda: They shall not mourn for him, Alas, my brother, and Alas, sister: they shall not lament for him, Alas, my Lord, or, Alas, the noble one.
19 Mais il sera enterré comme on enterre un âne: traîné dehors et jeté au-delà des portes de Jérusalem.	19 He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, rotten and cast forth without the gates of Jerusalem.
20 Monte sur le Liban et crie, fais entendre ta voix dans le Bashan, pousse des cris du haut des Abarim, car tous tes amants ont été écrasés.	20 Go up to Libanus, and cry: and lift up thy voice in Basan, and cry to them that pass by, for all thy lovers are destroyed.
21 Je t’ai parlé quand tout allait bien mais tu as répondu: Je n’écouterai pas. C’est ainsi que tu t’es comportée depuis ta jeunesse; tu n’as pas écouté ma voix.	21 I spoke to thee in thy properity: and thoiu saidst: I will not hear: this hath been thy way from thy youth, because thou hast not heard my voice.
22 Tu as tes bergers? Le vent les enverra paître; tes amants partiront en captivité. Ta mauvaise conduite ne te rapportera que la honte et le mépris.	22 The wind shall feed all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: and then shalt thou be confounded, and ashamed of all thy wickedness.
23 Toi qui habites le Liban et qui places ton repaire au milieu des cèdres, tu gémiras lorsque les douleurs viendront sur toi, une angoisse comme celle d’une femme qui accouche.	23 Thou that sittest in Libanus, and makest thy nest in the cedars, how hast thou mourned when sorrows came upon thee, as the pains of a woman in labour?
24 Je suis vivant! - parole de Yahvé. Même si Jékonias fils de Joïaqim, roi de Juda, était un anneau à ma main droite, je l’en retirerais.	24 As I live, saith the Lord, if Jechonias the son of Joakim the king of Juda were a ring on my right hand, I would pluck him thence.
25 Voici que je te livre à ceux qui en veulent à ta vie et qui te font trembler.	25 And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, and into the hand of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
26 Toi et ta mère qui t’a mis au monde, je vous jette dans un autre pays où vous n’êtes pas nés, et c’est là que vous mourrez.	26 And I will send thee, and thy mother that bore thee, into a strange country, in which you were not born, and there you shall die:
27 Ils ne reviendront pas au pays auquel ils ne cessaient de penser.	27 And they shall not return into the land, whereunto they lift up their mind to return thither.
28 Jékonias est-il donc un objet usé et cassé, un vase dont personne ne veut plus? Pourquoi ont-ils été enlevés, lui et sa race, et jetés sur une terre qu’ils ne connaissaient pas?	28 Is this man Jechonias an earthen and a broken vessel? is he a vessel wherein there is no pleasure? why are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
29 Terre, terre, terre, écoute la parole de Yahvé:	29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord.
30 Inscrivez cet homme au nombre des sans-enfants: pas un de sa race ne réussira à remonter sur le trône de David, pour régner encore sur Juda.	30 Thus saith the Lord: Write this man barren, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for there shall not be a man of his seed that shall sit upon the throne of David, and have power any more in Juda.
