Seconda Epistola di San Ioanne Apostolo 1

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Lo vecchio a donna Eletta, e alli suoi figliuoli, li quali io amo in verità, e non solamente io, ma tutti coloro che conoscono la verità,	1 From the Elder: my greetings to the Lady, the chosen one, and to her children, whom I love in truth --and I am not the only one, for so do al who have come to know the Truth -- and I am not the only one, for so sodo al who have come to know the Truth-
2 per la verità che dimora in noi e sarà con noi in sempiterno.	2 because of the truth that remains in us and wil be with us for ever.
3 Sia con voi la grazia e la misericordia e la pace da Iddio Padre (nostro), e da Iesù Cristo, Figliuolo del Padre, in verità e in carità.	3 In our life of truth and love, we shal have grace, faithful love and peace from God the Father and fromJesus Christ, the Son of the Father.
4 Son molto allegro, ch' io trovai de' tuoi figliuoli, che andavano per la verità, secondo che ricevemmo per comandamento del Pare.	4 It has given me great joy to find that children of yours have been living the life of truth as we werecommanded by the Father.
5 E ora ti priego, donna, non scrivendo a te secondo che comandamento nuovo, ma secondo quello che noi avemmo dal cominciamento, che noi ci amiamo insieme.	5 And now I am asking you -- dear lady, not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but onlythe one which we have had from the beginning -- that we should love one another.
6 E questa è la (perfetta) carità, che noi andiamo secondo li comandamenti di Dio. E questo è il comandamento, che secondo che avete udito dal cominciamento, andiate in quello.	6 To love is to live according to his commandments: this is the commandment which you have heardsince the beginning, to live a life of love.
7 Imperò che molti ingannatori son usciti fuori per il mondo, li quali non confessano che Cristo venisse in carne; e questo cotale è ingannatore, e anticristo.	7 There are many deceivers at large in the world, refusing to acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming inhuman nature. They are the Deceiver; they are the Antichrist.
8 Vedete (e guardate) voi medesimi, che non perdiate quelle cose che avete guadagnate (in Cristo) per le vostre opere, ma che riceviate guiderdone compiuto.	8 Watch yourselves, or all our work will be lost and you wil forfeit your full reward.
9 (Sapendo che) ogni uomo che travalica e non. rimane nella dottrina di Cristo, egli non ha Dio; ma quelli che rimane nella sua dottrina, egli ha il Padre e il Figliuolo.	9 If anybody does not remain in the teaching of Christ but goes beyond it, he does not have God with him:only those who remain in what he taught can have the Father and the Son with them.
10 Se alcuno viene a voi, e non reca questa dottrina, nollo ricevete in casa, e nollo salutate.	10 If anyone comes to you bringing a different doctrine, you must not receive him into your house or evengive him a greeting.
11 Chè quelli che saluta (e fagli bello ricevimento) sì è (partecipe e) raccomunato alle malvage opere di colui. (Ecco ch' io ve l' ho predetto, perchè voi non siate vituperati nel dì del nostro Signore. Iesù Cristo).	11 Whoever greets him has a share in his wicked activities.
12 Molte cose avrei a scrivervi, ma non voglio mandare quelle cose per carta nè per inchiostro; chè io ho speranza d'essere appo voi, e parlare a bocca a bocca, perchè la vostra allegrezza sia piena.	12 There are several things I have to tell you, but I have thought it best not to trust them to paper and ink.I hope instead to visit you and talk to you in person, so that our joy may be complete.
13 Salutano te li figliuoli della tua sorella Eletta. (La grazia sia teco. Amen).	13 Greetings to you from the children of your sister, the chosen one.
