Prima Epistola di San Pietro Apostolo 3

1 Simigliantemente le femine sieno sottoposte ai loro mariti; sì che se alquanti non credono alla parola, per la conversazione delle femine senza predicazione sieno guadagnati,	1 In like manner also let wives be subject to their husbands: that if any believe not the word, they may be won without the word, by the conversation of the wives.
2 cousiderando con timore la vostra santa conversazione.	2 Considering your chaste conversation with fear.
3 La capillatura delle quali non sia scoperta, [nè sieno esse ornate] d' intorniamento d'oro, o adornamento di copertura di vestimenti;	3 Whose adorning let it not be the outward plaiting of the hair, or the wearing of gold, or the putting on of apparel:
4 ma sia adornato il lor uomo di cuore ch' è ascosto, nella incorruttibilità del riposato e temperato spirito, il quale è ricco nel conspetto di Dio.	4 But the hidden man of the heart in the incorruptibility of a quiet and a meek spirit, which is rich in the sight of God.
5 Però che così e le sante femine, sperando in Iddio, s' adornavano, sottoposte alli loro mariti.	5 For after this manner heretofore the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:
6 Sì come Sara obbediva Abraam, chiamando lui signore; della quale voi siete figliuole, facendo bene, e non temendo alcuna turbazione.	6 As Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters you are, doing well, and not fearing any disturbance.
7 Simigliantemente voi, mariti, abitando insieme secondo la scienza, renderete onore alle femine, come a più debole vasello, e sì come eredi con voi insieme della grazia della vita, acciò che non siano impedite le vostre orazioni.	7 Ye husbands, likewise dwelling with them according to knowledge, giving honour to the female as to the weaker vessel, and as to the co-heirs of the grace of life: that your prayers be not hindered.
8 Ma nella fede siate tutti d' uno animo, sofferenti insieme, amatori della fratellanza, misericordios, temperati, umili;	8 And in fine, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, being lovers of the brotherhood, merciful, modest, humble:
9 non rendendo male per male, nè maledetto per maledetto; ma per contrario benedicete, però che in questo siete chiamati, acciò che voi possediate la benedizione per eredità.	9 Not rendering evil for evil, nor railing for railing, but contrariwise, blessing: for unto this are you called, that you may inherit a blessing.
10 Però che quello che vuole amare la vita, e vedere li di buoni, costringa la sua lingua dal male, e le labbra sue che non parlino inganno.	10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile.
11 (Ma) partasi dal male, e faccia il bene; addomandi la pace, e sèguiti quella.	11 Let him decline from evil, and do good: let him seek after peace and pursue it:
12 Chè gli occhi del Signore son sopra li giusti, e le orecchie sue alli loro prieghi; ma il (giudizio nel) volto del Signore è sopra li malfattori.	12 Because the eyes of the Lord are upon the just, and his ears unto their prayers: but the countenance of the Lord upon them that do evil things.
13 E chi è che vi noccia, se voi sarete amatori del bene?	13 And who is he that can hurt you, if you be zealous of good?
14 Ma se patirete alcuna cosa per la giustizia, sarete beati; ma la paura di loro non temerete, acciò che non siate conturbati.	14 But if also you suffer any thing for justice' sake, blessed are ye. And be not afraid of their fear, and be not troubled.
15 Ma santificate (il Signore) Cristo ne' vostri cuori, apparecchiati sempre a satisfacimento ad ogni uomo che vi domanda ragione di quella speranza (e fede) ch' è in voi;	15 But sanctify the Lord Christ in your hearts, being ready always to satisfy every one that asketh you a reason of that hope which is in you.
16 ma con temperanza e con timore, (ma) avendo buona (la vostra) conscienza; acciò che in quello de trattano di voi siano avvergognati quelli, per la vostra buona conversazione in Cristo.	16 But with modesty and fear, having a good conscience: that whereas they speak evil of you, they may be ashamed who falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
17 Però ch' egli è meglio facendo bene, s' egli è volontà di Dio, di patire, che facendo male.	17 For it is better doing well (if such be the will of God) to suffer, than doing ill.
18 Chè Cristo una volta fu morto per li nostri peccati, il giusto per li non giusti, per offerirne a Iddio, mortificati nella carne, ma fatti vivi nel spirito.	18 Because Christ also died once for our sins, the just for the unjust: that he might offer us to God, being put to death indeed in the flesh, but enlivened in the spirit,
19 Nel quale spirito venendo, a quegli che erano in carcere predicò.	19 In which also coming he preached to those spirits that were in prison:
20 Li quali erano stati altra volta non credenti, quando aspettavano la pazienza di Dio nelli dì di Noè, quando si fabbricava l'arca; nella quale pochi, cioè otto anime, son fatte salve per l'acqua.	20 Which had been some time incredulous, when they waited for the patience of God in the days of Noe, when the ark was a building: wherein a few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water.
21 Chè e voi il battesimo della simigliante forma vi fa salvi; non il lavamento delle sozzure della carne, ma il domandamento della buona conscienza in Iddio per la resurrezione di Iesù Cristo.	21 Whereunto baptism being of the like form, now saveth you also: not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the examination of a good conscience towards God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
22 Il quale è nella destra di Dio, ricevendo la morte acciò che noi fossimo fatti eredi della vita eterna; e andò in cielo, e furono sottoposti a lui li angeli e le potestà e le virtù.	22 Who is on the right hand of God, swallowing down death, that we might be made heirs of life everlasting: being gone into heaven, the angels and powers and virtues being made subject to him.
