1 E cadde la sorte alla schiatta di Manasse, imperciò ch' egli è il primogenito (cioè il primo figliuolo) di Iosef: Machir che è primogenito di Manasse, il quale fue padre di Galaad, il quale fu uomo combattitore, ebbe la possessione di Galaad e di Basan;	1 Now this lot fell to the tribe of Manasseh, since he is the firstborn of Joseph: to Machir, the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, who was a fighting man, and he had as a possession Gilead and Bashan;
2 e tutti gli altri de' figliuoli di Manasse, condo le loro famiglie, i figliuoli di Abiezer, e i figliuoli di Elec, e i figliuoli di Esriel, e i figliuoli di Sechem, e i figliuoli di Efer, e i figliuoli di Semida. Questi sono i figliuoli di Manasse, de' figliuoli di Iosef, maschi (per lo ceppo e) per parentado loro.	2 and to the rest of the sons of Manasseh, according to their families: to the sons of Abiezer, and to the sons of Helek, and to the sons of Asriel, and to the sons of Shechem, and to the sons of Hepher, and to the sons of Shemida. These are the sons of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the males, by their families.
3 Ma Salfaad figliuolo di Efer, figliuolo di Galaad, che fue figliuolo di Machir figliuolo di Manasse, non avea figliuoli, ma figliuole; delle quali questi sono i nomi: Maala e Noa ed Egla e Melca e Tersa.	3 Yet truly, Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but only daughters, whose names are these: Mahlah and Noah and Hoglah and Milcah and Tirzah.
4 E vennero costoro dinanzi ad Eleazaro (prete e sommo) sacerdote e a Iosuè figliuolo di Nun e ai principi, e dissero: Iddio Signore comandò, per mano di Moisè, che a noi fosse data la possessione nel mezzo de' nostri fratelli. E diede loro Iosuè, secondo il comandamento di Dio Signore, la possessione nel mezzo de' fratelli del padre loro.	4 And they went before the sight of Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua, the son of Nun, and the leaders, saying: “The Lord instructed by the hand of Moses that a possession ought to be given to us, in the midst of our brothers.” And so, he gave to them, in accord with the order of the Lord, a possession in the midst of the brothers of their father.
5 E caddono X misure di Manasse, senza la terra di Galaad e di Basan di là dal (fiume) Giordano.	5 And by lot, there fell ten portions to Manasseh, aside from the land of Gilead and Bashan beyond the Jordan.
6 Imperciò che le figliuole di Manasse possedettono la loro ereditade nel mezzo de' fratelli del padre loro. Ma la terra di Galaad sì cadde in sorte a' figliuoli di Manasse i quali erano rimasi.	6 And so the daughters of Manasseh possessed an inheritance in the midst of his sons. But the land of Gilead fell by lot to the sons of Manasseh that were left.
7 E fu il termine (e il confine) di Manasse da Aser a Macmetat, la quale ragguarda verso Sichem, e riesce dalla mano diritta da lato degli abitatori della fonte di Tafua.	7 And the border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethath, which looks out toward Shechem. And it goes out, to the right, beside the inhabitants of the Fountain of Tappuah.
8 Imperciò che venne in sorte a Manasse la terra di Tafua, la quale è a lato a' termini (e a' confini) di Manasse de' figliuoli di Efraim.	8 For by lot, there also fell to Manasseh the land of Tappuah, which is beside the borders of Manasseh, and which belongs to the sons of Ephraim.
9 E discende giuso il termine (e il confine) della valle del canneto nella parte del mezzodì del torrente delle città di Efraim, le quali sono nel mezzo delle cittadi di Manasse. E il termine di Manasse sì è dall'aquilone del torrente, e l'uscita sua va al mare;	9 And the border descends to the Valley of Reeds, to the south of the torrent of the cities of Ephraim, which are in the midst of the cities of Manasseh. The border of Manasseh is to the north of the torrent, and its exit extends to the sea.
10 sì che dall'austro è la (sua) possessione di Efraim, e dall'aquilone si è [di] Manasse, intanto che cadauna è chiusa dal mare, e congiungesi insieme con la tribù di Aser dall'aquilone, e con la tribù di Issacar dall'oriente.	10 So it is that the possession of Ephraim is in the south, and that of Manasseh is in the north, and both are enclosed by the sea, and they are joined together by the tribe of Asher to the north, and by the tribe of Issachar to the east.
11 E fue la eredità di Manasse in Issacar e in Aser, cioè Betsan (e le ville) e li campi suoi, e Ieblaam con le ville sue, e gli abitatori di Dor con li castelli suoi, e ancora gli abitatori d' Endor colle ville e campi suoi; e simigliantemente gli abitatori di Tenac con le ville sue, e gli abitatori di Mageddo (coi campi e) colle ville sue, e la terza parte della città di Nofet.	11 And the inheritance of Manasseh, in Issachar and in Asher, was Bethshean and its villages, and Ibleam with its villages, and the inhabitants of Dor, with their towns, likewise the inhabitants of Endor with their villages, and similarly the inhabitants of Taanach with their villages, and the inhabitants of Megiddo with their villages, and one third part of the city of Naphath.
12 E non poterono i figliuoli di Manasse disfare queste cittadi; ma incominciò ad abitare il Cananeo in quella terra.	12 The sons of Manasseh were not able to overthrow these cities, and so the Canaanite began to dwell in their land.
13 Ma poi che furono fortificati, i figliuoli d'Israel, sì gli sottomisono questi Cananei; e sì gli fecero suoi tributarii (e fedeli) e non gli uccisero.	13 But after the sons of Israel had grown strong, they subdued the Canaanites, and made them their tributaries, but they did not kill them.
14 E favellarono i figliuoli di Iosef a Iosuè, e dissono perchè m' hai tu data la possessione della sorte ad una misura, conciosia cosa ch' io sia di tanta moltitudine, e Iddio m' abbia benedetto?	14 And the sons of Joseph spoke to Joshua, and they said, “Why have you given to me as a possession one lot and one portion, while I am of such a great multitude, and the Lord has blessed me?”
15 Ai quali disse Iosuè: se tu se' molto (e grande) popolo, vattene suso nella selva, e tagliati gli spazii nella terra del Ferezeo e di Rafaim; imperciò che tu hai troppo stretta possessione (e abitazione) nel monte di Efraim.	15 And Joshua said to them, “If you are a numerous people, go up into the forest, and cut out space for yourself in the land of the Perizzites and the Rephaim, since the possession of mount Ephraim is too narrow for you.”
16 Al qual rispuosono i figliuoli di Iosef: noi non potremo salire alle montagne, conciosia cosa che i Cananei usino carri di ferro; i quali abitano la terra piana, nella quale terra sono edificate Betsan colle ville (e campi suoi), e Iezrael che possiede la metà della valle.	16 And the sons of Joseph responded to him: “We are not able to ascend to the mountains, since the Canaanites, who live in the plains, in which are situated Bethshean, with its villages, and Jezreel, possessing the middle of the valley, use chariots of iron.”
17 E disse Iosuè alla casa di Iosef e di Efraim, e di Manasse: tu sei uno gran popolo, e molto, e di gran fortezza, e non avrai sorte una.	17 And Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh: “You are a numerous people, and you have great strength. You shall not have only one lot.
18 Ma passerai suso al monte, e sì ti taglierai e netterai gli spazii ad abitare; e potrai andare più oltre, poi che avrai cacciato a terra il Cananeo, il quale tu dici che hae carri di ferro, e che è fortissimo.	18 Instead, you shall cross to the mountain, and you shall cut down and clear out for yourselves space in which to live. And you shall be able to advance further, when you will have destroyed the Canaanite, who, as you say, has iron chariots and is very strong.”
