Atti degli Apostoli 4

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E dicendo egli queste parole al popolo, sopravennero li sacerdoti e li maestri del tempio e li Saducei (li quali erano una setta, che negavano la resurrezione de' morti).	1 While they were stil talking to the people the priests came up to them, accompanied by the captain ofthe Temple and the Sadducees.
2 dolendosi che gli apostoli ammaestrassero il popolo, e predicassero la resurrezione di Cristo.	2 They were extremely annoyed at their teaching the people the resurrection from the dead by proclaimingthe resurrection of Jesus.
3 Sì gli presero, e miserli in prigione insino all' altro giorno; e questo fu una sera al tardi.	3 They arrested them, and, as it was already late, they kept them in prison till the next day.
4 Ma già ben cinque milia n' erano convertiti.	4 But many of those who had listened to their message became believers; the total number of men hadnow risen to something like five thousand.
5 E la mattina per tempo si raunarono li principi e li scribi in Ierusalem,	5 It happened that the next day the rulers, elders and scribes held a meeting in Jerusalem
6 e Anna, principe de' sacerdoti, e Caifas e Giovanni e Alessandro, e tutti ch' erano della schiatta de' sacerdoti.	6 with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, Jonathan, Alexander and al the members of the high-priestlyfamilies.
7 E ponendo gli apostoli in mezzo, sì gli domandarono, in cui virtù e in che nome avevano fatto questo (miracolo di sanare quello zoppo).	7 They made the prisoners stand in the middle and began to interrogate them, 'By what power, and bywhose name have you men done this?'
8 Alli quali (santo) Pietro, pieno (di fervore) di Spirito Santo, rispose e disse: principi del popolo, e voi altri seniori, udite:	8 Then Peter, fil ed with the Holy Spirit, addressed them, 'Rulers of the people, and elders!
9 Se noi oggi (ci domandate ed) esaminate, in cui virtù questo infermo è sanato,	9 If you are questioning us today about an act of kindness to a cripple and asking us how he was healed,
10 sappiate voi, e tutta la plebe d' Israel, ch' egli è sanato nel nome del nostro Signore Iesù Cristo Nazareno, il quale voi crucifiggeste, e il quale Dio suscitò da morte; questo è inanzi da voi sano.	10 you must know, all of you, and the whole people of Israel, that it is by the name of Jesus Christ theNazarene, whom you crucified, and God raised from the dead, by this name and by no other that this manstands before you cured.
11 Questo Iesù è la pietra reprobata dagli edificatori (come profetò il profeta David), e poi è constituita e posta in capo del cantone	11 This is the stone which you, the builders, rejected but which has become the cornerstone. Only in himis there salvation;
12 E in nullo altro è salute, se non in lui; e non è altro nome sotto il cielo, dato agli uomini, nel quale si possano salvare.	12 for of al the names in the world given to men, this is the only one by which we can be saved.'
13 (Le quali parole udendo quelli sacerdoti, e) veggendo (l'ardire e) la constanza di Pietro e di Giovanni, e sapendo ch' egli erano uomini idioti senza lettera, e conoscendo ch' egli erano stati discepoli di Iesù, maravigliavansi molto,	13 They were astonished at the fearlessness shown by Peter and John, considering that they wereuneducated laymen; and they recognised them as associates of Jesus;
14 massimamente veggendo presente e sano quello ch' era stato zoppo; onde non potendo contradire (nè negare il miracolo),	14 but when they saw the man who had been cured standing by their side, they could find no answer.
15 fecerli stare in disparte fuori del concilio, e ragionavano insieme.	15 So they ordered them to stand outside while the Sanhedrin had a private discussion.
16 E dicevano: or che faremo di questi uomini? chè noi pure veggiamo che il miracolo è manifesto, e non possiamo far che non si palesi nel popolo.	16 'What are we going to do with these men?' they asked. 'It is obvious to everybody in Jerusalem that anotable miracle has been worked through them, and we cannot deny it.
17 Ma (facciamo così) minacciamogli, e comandiamo loro, che non parlino più di questo nome mai a niuno.	17 But to stop the whole thing spreading any further among the people, let us threaten them against everspeaking to anyone in this name again.'
18 E così feceno.	18 So they cal ed them in and gave them a warning on no account to make statements or to teach in thename of Jesus.
19 (Le parole delli quali e comandamenti udendo) Pietro e Giovanni risposero (arditamente), e dissero se giusta e conveniente cosa è nel conspetto di Dio, che noi più presto obbediamo voi che Dio, voi medesimi lo giudicate.	19 But Peter and John retorted, 'You must judge whether in God's eyes it is right to listen to you and not toGod.
20 Chè per certo (sappiate che) noi non possiamo tacere quelle cose che abbiamo vedute e udite.	20 We cannot stop proclaiming what we have seen and heard.'
21 E dopo queste cose li principi e sacerdoti, minacciandoli, gli lassorono, non trovando in loro. cagione per la quale li potessero punire, massimamente temendo il popolo il quale era tutto commosso in ammirazione e in riverenza degli apostoli,	21 The court repeated the threats and then released them; they could not think of any way to punish them,since al the people were giving glory to God for what had happened.
22 per lo predetto miracolo del zoppo drizzato e sanato, il quale aveva più di quaranta anni.	22 The man who had been miraculously cured was over forty years old.
23 Poi che (per il predetto modo) furono lassati, trovarono la loro compagnia; e disseno loro quello che gli era intravenuto e incontrato da' sommi sacerdoti.	23 As soon as they were released they went to the community and told them everything the chief priestsand elders had said to them.
24 Le quali cose quelli udendo, unanimamente tutti gridando a Dio orarono, e dissero: o Signore Dio, tu che facesti il cielo e la terra, il mare e ciò che in essi si contiene,	24 When they heard it they lifted up their voice to God with one heart. 'Master,' they prayed, 'it is you who made sky and earth and sea, and everything in them;
25 e il quale per la bocca del tuo servo David, il quale spirasti del tuo Santo Spirito, dicesti: il perchè le genti hanno stridato, e li popoli pensato le falsità?	25 it is you who said through the Holy Spirit and speaking through our ancestor David, your servant: Whythis uproar among the nations, this impotent muttering of the peoples?
26 stettero li re della terra, e li principi si raunorono in uno contra del Signore e contra il Cristo suo?	26 Kings on earth take up position, princes plot together against the Lord and his Anointed.
27 (tu vedi che la detta profezia ora si compie e verifica in questo fatto, in ciò che vedi che) in questa città sono congregati (e hanno fatto setta) contra al tuo fanciullo santo Iesù, il quale tu ungesti (di unzione di Spirito Santo), Erode e Ponzio Pilato con le genti e co' popoli d' Israel,	27 'This is what has come true: in this very city Herod and Pontius Pilate plotted together with the gentilenations and the peoples of Israel, against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed,
28 a (perseguitarlo e) fare contra a lui quello che tu hai (promesso e) ordinato secondo il tuo consiglio (santo ed eterno).	28 to bring about the very thing that you in your strength and your wisdom had predetermined shouldhappen.
29 Ora ti preghiamo, Signore, che tu ragguardi alle minaccie che ci hanno fatte, e dà a noi, servi tuoi, fiducia di parlare (in predicare) le tue parole;	29 And now, Lord, take note of their threats and help your servants to proclaim your message with alfearlessness,
30 e dacci grazia di rendere sanità agli infermi, e di fare altri segni e miracoli nel nome del tuo santo Figliuolo Iesù.	30 by stretching out your hand to heal and to work miracles and marvels through the name of your holyservant Jesus.'
31 E fatta questa orazione, il luogo nel quale egli erano congregati si commosse; e tutti furono ripieni di Spirito Santo, e parlavano con fidanza la parola di Dio.	31 As they prayed, the house where they were assembled rocked. From this time they were all fil ed withthe Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God fearlessly.
32 E di tutta la moltitudine de' credenti era uno animo e uno volere; e ogni loro bene era comune.	32 The whole group of believers was united, heart and soul; no one claimed private ownership of anypossessions, as everything they owned was held in common.
33 E con grande virtù (e baldanza) rendevano gli apostoli testimonianza della resurrezione del nostro Signore Iesù Cristo; e grande grazia era in loro.	33 The apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with great power, and they wereal accorded great respect.
34 E fra loro nissuno non era bisognoso; perciò che (come detto è, avevano ogni cosa in comune, sì che) qualunque avesse alcuna possessione di campi o di case, sì la vendeva;	34 None of their members was ever in want, as al those who owned land or houses would sel them, andbring the money from the sale of them,
35 e p?neva il prezzo a' piedi degli apostoli; e dividevasi a ciascuno, secondo ch' era di bisogno.	35 to present it to the apostles; it was then distributed to any who might be in need.
36 E Iosef, il quale fu poi chiamato dagli apostoli Barnaba, che vien a dire Figliuolo di consolazione, levita di Cipri,	36 There was a Levite of Cypriot origin called Joseph whom the apostles surnamed Barnabas (whichmeans 'son of encouragement').
37 avendo uno campo, vendettelo; e recò il prezzo, e poselo a' piedi degli apostoli.	37 He owned a piece of land and he sold it and brought the money and presented it to the apostles.
