1 avvenne che in Cesarea era uno gentile uomo, che aveva nome Cornelio, ed era Centurione (e Capitaneo) di quella masnada di soldati (che v'erano a guardia per i Romani), la quale si chiamava Italica.	1 Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, named Cornelius, a centurion of the cohort which is called Italian,
2 E (secondo che uomo pagano) era molto religioso e temente Dio con tutta la sua famiglia, e faceva molte limosine a' poveri, e molte orazioni a Dio.	2 a devout man, fearing God with all his house, giving many alms to the people, and praying to God continually.
3 Questo vidde in visione manifestamente, in sull'ora di nona, l'angelo di Dio venire a sè, il quale (il chiamò per nome, e) disseli: Cornelio.	3 This man saw in a vision clearly, at about the ninth hour of the day, the Angel of God entering to him and saying to him: “Cornelius!”
4 Il quale Cornelio mirandolo (e udendolo così chiamare) molto impaurito, rispose e disse: Messere, chi se' tu? E l'angelo rispose, e disse: (sappi che) le tue orazioni e le tue limosine sono piaciute, e pervenute nel conspetto di Dio.	4 And he, gazing at him, was seized by fear, and he said, “What is it, lord?” And he said to him: “Your prayers and your almsgiving have ascended as a memorial in the sight of God.
5 E però (da sua parte) ti dico, che mandi tosto in Ioppe (li tuoi messi) al suo servo e apostolo Simone, il quale è cognominato Pietro.	5 And now, send men to Joppa and summon a certain Simon, who is surnamed Peter.
6 Il quale alberga in casa di Simone coriario, il quale abita a lato al mare; ed egli ti dirà quello che abbi a fare (per essere salvo).	6 This man is a guest with a certain Simon, a tanner, whose house is beside the sea. He will tell you what you must do.”
7 E dopo queste parole partendosi l'angelo, Cornelio chiamò due suoi sergenti, e uno cavaliere temente Dio, di quelli ch' erano sotto lui.	7 And when the Angel who was speaking to him had departed, he called, out of those who were subject to him, two of his household servants and a soldier who feared the Lord.
8 E narrando loro la visione che aveva veduta, sì gli mandò in Ioppe (per Pietro).	8 And when he had explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 E il seguente dì, andando quelli e approssimandosi alla predetta città di Ioppe, Pietro salì in su la parte di sopra della casa dove stava, e quivi orava in su l'ora della sesta.	9 Then, on the following day, while they were making the journey and approaching the city, Peter ascended to the upper rooms, so that he might pray, at about the sixth hour.
10 E benche avesse fame, non di meno non volse mangiare, se prima non orasse. E mentre che i familiari della casa apparecchiavano per desinare (orando Pietro) fu rapito in estasi.	10 And since he was hungry, he wanted to enjoy some food. Then, as they were preparing it, an ecstasy of mind fell over him.
11 E vidde il cielo aperto, e (parveli vedere) calare di cielo uno lenzuolo, raccolto a modo d' uno vaso, pendente verso terra (con quattro o vero) da quattro canti.	11 And he saw heaven opened, and a certain container descending, as if a great linen sheet were let down, by its four corners, from heaven to earth,
12 Nel quale li pareva che fusseno animali di quattro piedi, e serpenti dalla terra, e uccegli del cielo.	12 on which were all four-footed beasts, and the crawling things of the earth and the flying things of the air.
13 E (mirando elli questo fatto) udì una voce che li disse sta su, Pietro, e uccidi e mangia (di queste cose).	13 And a voice came to him: “Rise up, Peter! Kill and eat.”
14 Alla quale voce Pietro rispose: Signore Iddio, non sia questo; perciò ch' io non mangiai mai alcuna cosa comune e immonda, (la quale per la legge sia proibita).	14 But Peter said: “Far be it from me, lord. For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”
15 Allora la voce rispose e disse: quello che Dio ha purificato, non dire tu che sia immondo.	15 And the voice, again a second time to him: “What God has purified, you shall not call common.”
16 E così vide e udì tre volte; e poi il predetto lenzuolo, ch' era a modo di vaso, (con li predetti animali) fu ricolto in cielo.	16 Now this was done three times. And immediately the container was taken up to heaven.
17 E tornando in sè Pietro, e pensando sopra la detta visione, giunseno subitamente li messi del predetto Cornelio alla predetta casa.	17 Now while Peter was still hesitant within himself as to what the vision, which he had seen, might mean, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius stood at the gate, inquiring about Simon’s house.
18 E domandorono, se quello Simone, il quale era chiamato Pietro, era quivi.	18 And when they had called out, they asked if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, was a guest in that place.
19 Il Spirito disse a Pietro, pensando egli della predetta visione: ecco che tre uomini ti domandano.	19 Then, as Peter was thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.
20 Sta su, e vanne con loro, e non dubitare; però che io gli ho mandati (a te).	20 And so, rise up, descend, and go with them, doubting nothing. For I have sent them.”
21 Allora discendendo giù, e mostrandosi a quegli uomini (li quali il domandavano), disse loro: ecco, io sono colui che voi addimandate; ditemi la cagione della vostra venuta.	21 Then Peter, descending to the men, said: “Behold, I am the one whom you seek. What is the reason for which you have arrived?”
22 Allora quelli (risposeno e) disseno: Cornelio Centurione, uomo giusto e temente Iddio, il quale ha buona testimonianza (e buona fama) da tutta la gente Iudea, fu ammonito (in visione) dall' angelo santo, ch' elli mandasse per te, e menasseti a casa sua, e udisse (e ricevesse) la tua dottrina.	22 And they said: “Cornelius, a centurion, a just and God-fearing man, who has good testimony from the entire nation of the Jews, received a message from a holy Angel to summon you to his house and to listen to words from you.”
23 Allora Pietro (con carità) li ricevette, e menolli nel predetto albergo; e poi il dì seguente si partì, e andonne con loro; e alcuni de' fedeli l'accompagnarono (per esserli testimonii delle virtù che elli facea).	23 Therefore, leading them in, he received them as guests. Then, on following the day, rising up, he set out with them. And some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
24 E il terzo dì poi pervennero in Cesarea; e Cornelio gli aspettava, avendo perciò convocati molti suoi amici e domestici.	24 And on the next day, he entered Caesarea. And truly, Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his family and closest friends.
25 Ed entrando Pietro in Cesarea, Cornelio li venne incontro, e inginocchiossi a' [suoi] piedi, e adorollo.	25 And it happened that, when Peter had entered, Cornelius went to meet him. And falling before his feet, he reverenced.
26 Della quale cosa Pietro (per umiltà turbandosi) sì il riprese, e levollo suso in piedi, e disseli: stà su, (non mi adorare,) perciò che io sono uomo come tu.	26 Yet truly, Peter, lifting him up, said: “Rise up, for I also am only a man.”
27 Ed entrando dentro con lui, e trovandovi molti congregati (che v'erano venuti per la predetta cagione),	27 And speaking with him, he entered, and he found many who had gathered together.
28 sì disse: voi sapete com'è abominevole cosa, appresso li giudei, a congiungersi con uomo straniero; ma Dio m' ha mostrato, che io non debba reputare niuno uomo immondo (per certa visione la quale mi mostrò questi dì).	28 And he said to them: “You know how abominable it would be for a Jewish man to be joined with, or to be added to, a foreign people. But God has revealed to me to call no man common or unclean.
29 E perciò senza dubitazione son venuto; e però prego (te, Cornelio, e voi altri) che mi diciate la cagione per che mi avete voluto vedere.	29 Because of this and without doubt, I came when summoned. Therefore, I ask you, for what reason have you summoned me?”
30 Allora Cornelio (li rispose e) disse: oggi sono IIII dì, ch' io mi stava nella mia casa e orava; e orando ivi m' apparve subitamente uno (bello angelo in forma d' uno) giovene con veste candida, e dissemi:	30 And Cornelius said: “It is now the fourth day, to this very hour, since I was praying in my house at the ninth hour, and behold, a man stood before me in a white vestment, and he said:
31 Cornelio, esaudita è l'orazione tua, e le tue elemosine sono rappresentate nel conspetto di Dio.	31 ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your almsgiving has been remembered in the sight of God.
32 Manda adunque in Ioppe, e fa venire a te Simone, il quale è cognominato Pietro; il quale alberga in casa di Simone coriario, a lato al mare.	32 Therefore, send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is surnamed Peter. This man is a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, near the sea.’
33 Onde io incontinente mandai per te, e tu hai fatto bene di venirci. E però ecco, noi siamo nel tuo conspetto a udire (e a fare) ciò che tu ci vuoi dire da parte di Dio.	33 And so, I promptly sent for you. And you have done well in coming here. Therefore, all of us are now present in your sight to hear all the things that were taught to you by the Lord.”
34 Allora Pietro incominciò a parlare, e disse: in verità ora m' avveggio che Iddio non è accettatore di persone.	34 Then, Peter, opening his mouth, said: “I have concluded in truth that God is not a respecter of persons.
35 Ma ogni gente, che (in) lui (crede e) teme e adopera giustizia, gli è (graziosa e) accetta.	35 But within every nation, whoever fears him and works justice is acceptable to him.
36 Dio mandò il suo Figliuolo Iesù alli figliuoli d'Israel, ad annunziare (e proferire) pace; e questo è il (vero Iddio creatore, e) Signore di tutto l'universo.	36 God sent the Word to the sons of Israel, announcing the peace through Jesus Christ, for he is the Lord of all.
37 E voi sapete la predicazione che fu fatta per tutta Iudea, incominciando da Galilea, dopo il battesimo (di Giovanni) che predicò Giovanni,	37 You know that the Word has been made known throughout all Judea. For beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached,
38 (come Iddio mandò) Iesù Nazareno; e sì l'unse (e riempillo) di Spirito Santo e d'ogni virtù; ed esso Iesù andò (predicando e) facendo bene, e sanando (e liberando) gli oppressi del diavolo (e da ogni infermità), perciò che Iddio era con lui.	38 Jesus of Nazareth, whom God anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power, traveled around doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil. For God was with him.
39 E noi siamo testimonii di tutte quelle cose che fece nelle contrade di Iudea e di Ierusalem; e come (li giudei) poi l' uccisero e crucifissero nel legno.	39 And we are witnesses of all that he did in the region of Judea and in Jerusalem, he whom they killed by hanging him on a tree.
40 Ma Iddio il resuscitò il terzo dì; e manifestollo	40 God raised him up on the third day and permitted him to be made manifest,
41 non a ogni popolo, ma a' testimonii preordinati da Dio; cioè a noi, li quali mangiammo e bevemmo con lui, poi ch' elli fu resuscitato.	41 not to all the people, but to the witnesses preordained by God, to those of us who ate and drank with him after he rose again from the dead.
42 E comandocci che andassimo predicando a ogni popolo, e testificando come elli è da Dio constituito giudice de' vivi e de' morti.	42 And he instructed us to preach to the people, and to testify that he is the One who was appointed by God to be the judge of the living and of the dead.
43 E a lui (e di lui) rendono testimonio tutti li profeti, ch' elli perdona tutti li peccati a tutti coloro che in lui credono.	43 To him all the Prophets offer testimony that through his name all who believe in him receive the remission of sins.”
44 E dicendo Pietro le dette parole, venne il Spirito Santo sopra tutti coloro che il stavano a udire.	44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell over all of those who were listening to the Word.
45 Onde di ciò si meravigliavano molto li convertiti di Iudea, pensando come la grazia del Spirito Santo fusse venuta sopra le genti pagane e non circoncise.	45 And the faithful of the circumcision, who had arrived with Peter, were astonished that the grace of the Holy Spirit was also poured out upon the Gentiles.
46 E udivangli parlare in diverse lingue e magnificare Dio.	46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and magnifying God.
47 Allora disse Pietro: or chi può vietare (e contradire) che non si battezzino questi che hanno ricevuto il Spirito Santo, come noi?	47 Then Peter responded, “How could anyone prohibit water, so that those who have received the Holy Spirit would not be baptized, just as we also have been?”
48 Onde comandò che (incontanente) fosseno battezzati nel nome di Iesù Cristo. E quelli allora il pregarono, ch' elli rimanesse quivi con loro alquanti dì; (e così fece).	48 And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then they begged him to remain with them for some days.
