BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Allora andorono a lui li Scribi e Farisei da Ierusalem, dicendo:	1 Then Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came to Jesus and said,
2 Il perchè li tuoi discepoli rompono le ordinazioni delli antiqui? imperò che non si lavano le mani, quando mangiano il pane.	2 'Why do your disciples break away from the tradition of the elders? They eat without washing theirhands.'
3 Ed egli rispondendo gli disse: il perchè e voi siete trasgressori del comandamento di Dio per la vostra ordinazione? Onde Iddio disse;	3 He answered, 'And why do you break away from the commandment of God for the sake of yourtradition?
4 onora il padre e la madre, e: colui che maledicerà il padre ovvero la madre, sarà morto di morte.	4 For God said, "Honour your father and your mother" and "Anyone who curses his father or mother wilbe put to death."
5 Ma voi dicete: qualunque dirà al padre o alla madre: ciascuno dono per me, a te gioverà;	5 But you say, "If anyone says to his father or mother: Anything I might have used to help you isdedicated to God,
6 e non onorificarà il suo padre o la sua madre; e avete corrotto il comandamento di Dio per la vostra ordinazione (e statuto).	6 he is rid of his duty to father or mother." In this way you have made God's word ineffective by means ofyour tradition.
7 Ipocriti, bene profetò di voi Isaia, dicendo:	7 Hypocrites! How rightly Isaiah prophesied about you when he said:
8 Questo popolo mi onora colle labbra, ma il loro cuore lontano è da me.	8 This people honours me only with lip-service, while their hearts are far from me.
9 Onde senza cagione mi onorano, insegnanti le dottrine e gli comandamenti degli uomini.	9 Their reverence of me is worthless; the lessons they teach are nothing but human commandments.'
10 E a sè chiamate le turbe, dissegli; udite e intendete.	10 He called the people to him and said, 'Listen, and understand.
11 Quel ch' entra nella bocca, non macula l' uomo; ma quel che procede della bocca, questo macula l'uomo.	11 What goes into the mouth does not make anyone unclean; it is what comes out of the mouth thatmakes someone unclean.'
12 Allora andati li discepoli suoi, sì li dissero: sai che li Farisei, udita questa parola, si sono scandalizzati?	12 Then the disciples came to him and said, 'Do you know that the Pharisees were shocked when theyheard what you said?'
13 Ed egli rispondendo disse: scaverassi ogni pianta, la quale non ha piantata il Padre mio celestiale.	13 He replied, 'Any plant my heavenly Father has not planted wil be pul ed up by the roots.
14 Lasciateli (scandalizzare); quelli sono ciechi, e loro guidatori; ma se uno cieco conducerà l'altro cieco, ambedue cadono nella fossa.	14 Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind; and if one blind person leads another, both wilfal into a pit.'
15 Ma rispondendo Pietro, sì li disse: esponici questa parabola.	15 At this, Peter said to him, 'Explain the parable for us.'
16 Ed egli disse: ancora voi etiam sete senza intelletto?	16 Jesus replied, 'Even you -- don't you yet understand?
17 Non intendete, come tutto quel ch' entra nella bocca va nel ventre, e mandasi fuori nel padire?	17 Can't you see that whatever goes into the mouth passes through the stomach and is discharged intothe sewer?
18 Ma quel che procede dalla bocca, esce dal cuore, ed esso macula l'uomo.	18 But whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and it is this that makes someoneunclean.
19 Perchè dal cuore escono li mali pensieri, gli omicidii, adulterii, fornicazioni, furti, false testimonianze, blasfemie.	19 For from the heart come evil intentions: murder, adultery, fornication, theft, perjury, slander.
20 Queste sono quelle che màculano l'uomo; ma il mangiare senza essere lavate le mani non macula l'uomo.	20 These are the things that make a person unclean. But eating with unwashed hands does not makeanyone unclean.'
21 E partito di quindi, [Iesù] andossene nelle parti di Tiro e Sidone.	21 Jesus left that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
22 Ed ecco che venne a lui una femina [Cananea] ch' era uscita di quelle confine, e gridava dicendo: o figliuolo di David, abbi misericordia di me; imperò che la figliuola mia è malamente dal demonio tormentata.	22 And suddenly out came a Canaanite woman from that district and started shouting, 'Lord, Son ofDavid, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil.'
23 Ed egli non rispose alcuna cosa. E li suoi discepoli il pregavano, dicendo: (anzi esaudiscila e) mandala via, imperò ch' ella ci va gridando dietro.	23 But he said not a word in answer to her. And his disciples went and pleaded with him, saying, 'Giveher what she wants, because she keeps shouting after us.'
24 Rispose Iesù, e disse a loro: io non sono mandato se non alle pecore, che sono perite, della casa d'Israel.	24 He said in reply, 'I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.'
25 Ed ella venne, e adorollo, e disse: Signore, aiutami.	25 But the woman had come up and was bowing low before him. 'Lord,' she said, 'help me.'
26 E Iesù rispose, e disse: non è buono a tòrre il pane a' figliuoli, e darlo a' cani.	26 He replied, 'It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to little dogs.'
27 Ed ella disse: o Signore, anche i catolini mangiano de' minuzzoli che cadono della mensa del signore.	27 She retorted, 'Ah yes, Lord; but even little dogs eat the scraps that fal from their masters' table.'
28 Allora rispose Iesù, e disse: o femina, grande è la fede tua; e sia fatto a te sì come tu vuoli. E sanata fu la fanciulla sua in quell' ora.	28 Then Jesus answered her, 'Woman, you have great faith. Let your desire be granted.' And from thatmoment her daughter was wel again.
29 E partito quindi Iesù, venne appresso il mare di Galilea; e ascendendo nel monte, quivi sedeva.	29 Jesus went on from there and reached the shores of the Lake of Galilee, and he went up onto themountain. He took his seat,
30 Al quale andorono molte turbe, con loro aventi li muti, ciechi, zoppi, deboli e molti altri; e gittoronli alli suoi piedi, ed egli li sanò.	30 and large crowds came to him bringing the lame, the crippled, the blind, the dumb and many others;these they put down at his feet, and he cured them.
31 Per modo che maravigliavansi le turbe, vedendo parlare li muti, andare li zoppi, li ciechi vedere; e magnificavano il Dio d' Israel.	31 The crowds were astonished to see the dumb speaking, the cripples whole again, the lame walkingand the blind with their sight, and they praised the God of Israel.
32 Ma Iesù, a sè chiamati li suoi discepoli, disse ho misericordia della turba, imperò che già per tre giorni persèverano meco, e non hanno che mangino; e non li voglio lassare digiuni, acciò non vengano meno nella via.	32 But Jesus cal ed his disciples to him and said, 'I feel sorry for al these people; they have been withme for three days now and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them off hungry, or they might col apse onthe way.'
33 Al quale dicono li discepoli: dove adunque potremo avere nel deserto tanto pane, che saziamo tanta turba?	33 The disciples said to him, 'Where in a deserted place could we get sufficient bread for such a largecrowd to have enough to eat?'
34 Ai quali disse Iesù: quanti pani avete? E quelli dissero sette, e pochi pisciculi.	34 Jesus said to them, 'How many loaves have you?' They said, 'Seven, and a few smal fish.'
35 Ed egli comandò alla turba, che sedessero sopra la terra.	35 Then he instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground,
36 E tolti li sette pani e li pisciculi, e referendo grazie, li ruppe, e detteli alli discepoli; e li discepoli li dettero al popolo.	36 and he took the seven loaves and the fish, and after giving thanks he broke them and began handingthem to the disciples, who gave them to the crowds.
37 E tutti mangiorono, e sazioronsi; e ricogliettero sette sporte, piene delle miche che sopra vanzorono.	37 They al ate as much as they wanted, and they col ected what was left of the scraps, seven basketsful .
38 Ed erano quattro migliaia quelli che mangiorono, oltre li fanciulli e le femine.	38 Now four thousand men had eaten, to say nothing of women and children.
39 E lasciata la turba, sali nella navicella, e venne nelle parti di Magedan.	39 And when he had sent the crowds away he got into the boat and went to the territory of Magadan.
