BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Guai a te, città di sangue; tu, bugiarda, piena di dilacerazione; e non si partirà da te la rapina.	1 Disaster to the city of blood, packed throughout with lies, stuffed with booty, where plundering has noend!
2 La voce del flagello, e la voce dell' impeto della ruota, e del cavallo resonante, e del carro stridente, e del cavalcatore salente (a cavallo),	2 The crack of the whip! The rumble of wheels! Gal oping horse, jolting chariot,
3 e dello lucente coltello, e dell' asta folgorante, e della moltitudine uccisa, e della grande rovina; e non è fine de' corpi morti, e cadranno ne' corpi loro.	3 charging cavalry, flashing swords, gleaming spears, a mass of wounded, hosts of dead, countlesscorpses; they stumble over corpses-
4 Per la moltitudine delle fornicazioni della bella e graziosa meretrice, la quale ha i maleficii, e hae venduto le genti nelle sue fornicazioni, e le famiglie ne' suoi maleficii;	4 because of the countless whorings of the harlot, the graceful beauty, the cunning witch, who enslavednations by her harlotries and tribes by her spells.
5 ecco io vegno a te, dice il Signore delli esèrciti, e scoprirò le tue disonestadi nella faccia tua, e mostrerò alle genti la nudità tua, e a' reami la (vergogna e) il vituperio tuo.	5 Look, I am against you!- declares Yahweh Sabaoth- I shal lift your skirts as high as your face and showyour nakedness to the nations, your shame to the kingdoms.
6 E gitterò sopra te le abominazioni, e affliggerò te colle contumelie, (cioè con parole ingiuriose e vituperose), e porrotti in esempio.	6 I shal pelt you with filth, I shal shame you and put you in the pil ory.
7 E sarà che ogni uomo, che ti vedrà, sì ritornerà dirietro da te, e dirà: guasta è Ninive; chi commoverà sopra te il capo? onde (di che luogo) cercherò a te consolatore?	7 Then al who look at you wil shrink from you and say, 'Nineveh has been ruined!' Who wil mourn forher? Where would I find people to comfort you?
8 Or se' tu migliore che Alessandria, la quale ebbe di sotto da sè molti popoli, la quale abita nei fiumi? le acque sono nel circuito suo, alla quale vengono per mare le ricchezze, e l'acque sono le mura sue.	8 Are you better off than No-Amon situated among rivers, her defences the seas, her rampart the waters?
9 Etiopia e l'Egitto sono la fortezza sua, e non ha fine (la fortezza sua, e non ha fine la fortezza e la ricchezza sua); Africa e Libia furono in tuo adiutorio (cioè d'Alessandria).	9 In Ethiopia and Egypt lay her strength, and it was boundless; Put and the Libyans served in her army.

11 E tu adunque sarai inebriata, e sarai dispetta; e domanderai adiutorio dal nimico.	11 You too wil become drunk, you wil go into hiding; you too will have to search for a refuge from theenemy.
12 Tutte le munizioni (e le fortezze) tue saranno come il fico coi fichi suoi primaticci; li quali sì saranno scossi, e cadranno nella bocca di colui che gli mangia.	12 Your fortifications are all fig trees, with early ripening figs: as soon as they are shaken, they fall intothe mouth of the eater.
13 Ecco, il popolo tuo diventerà vile come le femmine nel mezzo di te; le porte della terra tua saranno aperte alli nimici tuoi; il fuoco divorerà li chiavistelli tuoi.	13 Look at your people: you are a nation of women! The gates of your country gape open to yourenemies; fire has devoured their bars!
14 Attigniti l'acqua per l'assedio, ed edifica le fortezze tue; entra nel luto, e calcalo; e commettendolo sotto i piedi, fanne mattoni.	14 Draw yourselves water for the siege, strengthen your fortifications! Into the mud with you, puddle theclay, repair the brick-kiln!
15 Qui ti mangerà il fuoco, e perirai di coltello; e divoreratti come è divorato il bruco; raccogliti insieme come fa il bruco, e multiplica come il grillo.	15 There the fire wil burn you up, the sword wil cut you down. Make yourselves as numerous as locusts,make yourselves as numerous as the hoppers,
16 Tu hai fatti più traffichi, che non sono le stelle del cielo; il bruco [si] sparse, e volò.	16 let your commercial agents outnumber the stars of heaven,
17 Le guardie tue sono come grilli; i parvoli tuoi sono come li figliuoli de' grilli, i quali si stanno nelle siepi nel dì del freddo; levossi il sole, e loro volarono, e non fu conosciuto il luogo loro dove fussono stati.	17 your garrisons, like locusts, and your marshals, like swarms of hoppers! They settle on the wal s whenthe day is cold. The sun appears, the locusts spread their wings, they fly away,away they fly, no one knowswhere. Alas,
18 I tuoi pastori, o re d' Assur, si sono addormentati; e' tuoi principi saranno sepolti; il tuo popolo s'è nascoso ne' monti, e non è chi lo raduni.	18 your shepherds are asleep, king of Assyria, your bravest men slumber; your people are scattered onthe mountains with no one to gather them.
19 Non è oscura la distruzione tua; pessima è la piaga tua; tutti coloro che hanno udito quello che si dice di te, hanno premuta la mano sopra di te; però che sopra cui non è sempre passata la malizia tua?	19 There is no remedy for your wound, your injury is past healing. All who hear the news of you clap theirhands at your downfal . For who has not felt your unrelenting cruelty?
