1 Alef A qual modo egli è mutato l'auro, mutato è il colore suo, si sono disperse le pietre del santuario nel capo di tutte le piazze?	1 Aleph. How is the gold become dim, the finest colour is changed, the stones of the sanctuary are scattered in the top of every street?
2 Bet Come sono reputati li (generosi e) incliti figliuoli di Sion, vestiti del primo auro, in vasi di terra, opera della mano del figulo?	2 Beth. The noble sons of Sion, and they that were clothed with the best gold: how are they esteemed as earthen vessels, the work of the potter's hands?
3 Ghimel Ma le lamie sono scoperte, le mammelle hanno lattato li suoi cagnoli. (Lamie, come dicono le fabule, sono mostri che straziano li fanciulli, ovvero figliuoli, e poscia li restituiscono morti, e hanno la faccia di uomo e il corpo di bestia; e dicesi che sono più crudeli a' loro figliuoli, che tutte l'altre bestie). La figliuola del populo mio crudele è come struzzo nel deserto.	3 Ghimel. Even the sea monsters have drawn out the breast, they have given suck to their young: the daughter of my people is cruel, like the ostrich in the desert.

The tongue of the sucking child hath stuck to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the little ones have asked for bread, and there was none to break it unto them.
5 He Perirono nelle vie quelli che usavano con diletto li cibi; si sono abbracciati nelle immondizie quelli si nutricavano nelle cune.	5 He. They that were fed delicately have died in the streets; they that were brought up in scarlet have embraced the dung.
6 Vau Fatta è maggiore la iniquità della figliuola del mio populo, del peccato di Sodoma, la quale è sommersa in un momento, e le mani non la pigliorono.	6 Vau. And the iniquity of the daughter of my people is made greater than the sin of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment, and hands took nothing in her.
7 Zain Li suoi Nazarei (che sono li consacrati al Signore) furono più bianchi della neve, più splendidi del latte, più rubicondi del dente dell' elefante antiquo, più belli del saffiro.	7 Zain. Her Nazarites were whiter than snow, purer than milk, more ruddy than the old ivory, fairer than the sapphire.
8 Het Loro faccia è denigrata sopra li carboni; non sono conosciuti nelle piazze; loro cutica hassi accostata all' ossa, s'è seccata e fatta a modo di legno.	8 Heth. Their face is now made blacker than coals, and they are not known in the streets: their skin hath stuck to their bones, it is withered, and is become like wood.
9 Tet Fue meglio alli uccisi di coltello, che alli ammazzati per fame; imperò che questi, consumati per la sterilità della terra, putrirono.	9 Teth. It was better with them that were slain by the sword, than with them that died with hunger: for these pined away being consumed for want of the fruits of the earth.
10 Iod Cossero le mani delle misericordiose femine li suoi figliuoli; si sono fatti a quelle cibo nella contrizione della figliuola del mio populo.	10 Jod. The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
11 Caf Compiè il Signore il furore suo, sparse l' ira del suo isdegno; e abbruciò in Sion con il fuoco, e divorò le sua fundamenta.	11 Caph. The Lord hath accomplished his wrath, he hath poured out his fierce anger: and he hath kindled a fire in Sion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.
12 Lamed Non credettero li re della terra, e li universi abitatori del mondo, imperò che entrava l'oste e l'inimico per le porte di Ierusalem,	12 Lamed. The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world would not have believed, that the adversary and the enemy should enter in by the gates of Jerusalem.
13 Mem per li peccati delli suoi profeti, e per le iniquità de' suoi sacerdoti, i quali nel suo mezzo sparsero il sangue de' giusti.	13 Mem. For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her.
14 Nun Errorono li ciechi nelle piazze, sonosi maculati con lo sangue; e quando non potevano, tenettero le sue stracciate vestimenta.	14 Nun. They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they were defiled with blood: and when they could not help walking in it, they held up their skirts.
15 Samec Gridorono a loro: partitevi tutti, o corrotti; partitevi, e andate, e non vogliate toccare; hanno fatto contenzione tutti, e commossi dissero: più non giungerà (fra la gente) chi abiti in essi.	15 Samech. Depart you that are defiled, they cried out to them: Depart, get ye hence, touch not: for they quarrelled, and being removed, they said among the Gentiles: He will no more dwell among them.
16 Fe Halli divisi la faccia del Signore; egli non aggiungerà acciò li guardi; non si sono vergognate le faccie de' sacerdoti, e (quelle) de' vecchi non hanno avuto misericordia.	16 Phe. The face of the Lord hath divided them, he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, neither had they pity on the ancient.
17 Ain Quando ancora ci mantenevamo, vennero a meno gli occhi nostri al nostro vano aiuto, quando riguardavamo attenti alla gente la quale non ci poteva salvare.	17 Ain. While we were yet standing, our eyes failed, expecting help for us in vain, when we looked attentively towards a nation that was not able to save.
18 Sade Le nostre strade si sono fatte lasse nel cammino delle nostre piazze; èssi appressato il fine nostro; finiti sono li nostri giorni, imperò ch' egli è venuto il nostro fine.	18 Sade. Our steps have slipped in the way of our streets, our end draweth near: our days are fulfilled, for our end is come.
19 Cof Sono stati più veloci li nostri persecutori delle aquile del cielo; ci hanno perseguitati sopra li monti; ne hanno poste le insidie nel deserto.	19 Coph. Our persecutors were swifter than the eagles of the air: they pursued us upon the mountains, they lay in wait for us in the wilderness.
20 Res Nelli nostri peccati egli è pigliato il Signore Cristo, spirito della nostra bocca, al quale noi dicessimo: viveremo nelle genti nell' ombra tua.	20 Res. The breath of our mouth, Christ the Lord, is taken in our sins: to whom we said: Under thy shadow we shall live among the Gentiles.
21 Sin Godi, e rallègrati, figliuola di Edom, la quale abiti nella terra di Us; a te etiam perverrà il calice; ti inebrierai, e sarai nudata.	21 Sin. Rejoice, and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Hus: to thee also shall the cup come, thou shalt be made drunk, and naked.
22 Tau Finita è la tua iniquità, figliuola di Sion; più non aggiungerà, che ti transmigri; figliuola di Edom, egli visiterà la tua iniquità, discoprirà le tue peccata.	22 Thau. Thy iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Sion, he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he visited thy iniquity, O daughter of Edom, he hath discovered thy sins.
