BIBBIA VOLGARE	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Rispose Baldad Suite, e disse:	1 The Baldad the Suhite answered, and said:
2 Insino a qui anco favelli cotali cose, e lo spirito in molti modi delli sermoni della bocca tua?	2 How long wilt thou speak these things, and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?
3 Or defrauda Iddio lo giudicio? e lo onnipotente sovverte quello che è giusto?	3 Doth God pervert judgment, or doth the Almighty overthrow that which is just?
4 Ancora se li figliuoli tuoi peccarono a lui, e lasciò loro nelle mani della iniquitade;	4 Although thy children have sinned against him, and he hath left them in the hand of their iniquity:
5 ma se tu nel fare del dì ti leverai a Dio, e lo onnipotente pregherai;	5 Yet if thou wilt arise early to God, and wilt beseech the Almighty:
6 e se tu mondo e diritto anderai, incontinente sì veglierae a te, e umiliato renderatti l'abitazione della tua giustizia;	6 If thou wilt walk clean and upright, he will presently awake onto thee, and will make the dwelling of thy justice peaceable:
7 intanto che [se] le tue cose di prima fossero piccole, e le tue cose nuove moltiplicheranno molto.	7 Insomuch, that if thy former things were small, thy latter things would be multiplied exceedingly.
8 Adunque addomanda la generazione di prima, e diligentemente investiga la memoria de' padri tuoi;	8 For inquire of the former generation, and search diligently into the memory of the fathers:
9 e certo di fuori e alieni noi siamo, e non sappiamo (perciò) che sì come ombra, i dì nostri sono sopra la terra;	9 (For we are but of yesterday, and are ignorant that our days upon earth are but a shadow:)
10 e loro ammaestreranno te; e favelleranno a te, e del cuore loro proferiranno li parlari.	10 And they shall teach thee: they shall speak to thee, and utter words out of their hearts.
11 Or puote verdeggiare il giunco senza umore? ovvero crescere le erbe acute senza acqua?	11 Can the rush be green without moisture? or a sedge-bush grow without water?
12 Conciosia cosa che ancora sia in fiore, nè non è preso colla mano, innanzi a tutte l'erbe si secca;	12 When it is yet in flower, and is not plucked up with the hand, it withereth before all herbs.
13 così è [del]le vie di tutti coloro che dimènticano Iddio; e la speranza dello ipocrito perirà.	13 Even so are the ways of all that forget God, and the hope of the hypocrite shall perish:
14 Non li piacerà la sua misericordia; ed è sì come tela di ragnolo la fidanza sua.	14 His folly shall not please him, and his trust shall be like the spider's web.
15 Sforzerassi sopra la casa sua, e non starà; forniralla, e non si drizzerà.	15 He shall lean upon his house, and it shall not stand: he shall prop it up, and it shall not rise:
16 Lo umido è veduto innanzi che venghi lo sole, e nello nascimento suo lo germoglio suo si parte.	16 He seemeth to have moisture before the sun cometh, and at his rising his blossom shall shoot forth.
17 Sopra lo monte delle pietre le radici sue saranno messe, e intra le pietre starà.	17 His roots shall be thick upon a heap of stones, and among the stones he shall abide.
18 Se inghiottirà lui del luogo suo, negherà lui, e dirà: non conobbi te.	18 If one swallow him up out of his place, he shall deny him, and shall say: I know thee not.
19 Questa è in verità la letizia della via sua, che un' altra volta altri sieno germinati della terra.	19 For this is the joy of his way, that others may spring again out of the earth.
20 Iddio non gitterà mai lo semplice, nè porgerà la mano allo malvagio;	20 God will not cast away the simple, nor reach out his hand to the evildoer:
21 insino che sia riempiuta la bocca tua di riso, e le labbra d'allegrezza.	21 Until thy mouth be filled with laughter, and thy lips with rejoicing.
22 Coloro che t' hanno odiato, saranno vestiti di confusione; e lo tabernacolo de' malvagi non starà fermo.	22 They that hate thee, shall be clothed with confusion: and the dwelling of the wicked shall not stand.
