BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E passarono tre anni senza battaglia tra Siria e Israel.	1 There was a lul of three years, with no fighting between Aram and Israel.
2 Nel terzo anno discendè Iosafat re di Giuda al re d' Israel.	2 Then, in the third year, Jehoshaphat king of Judah paid a visit to the king of Israel.
3 E disse il re d' Israel a' servi suoi: non sapete voi, che Ramot di Galaad è nostra, e noi siamo negligenti a ritorglierla delle mani del re di Siria?	3 The king of Israel said to his officers, 'You are aware that Ramoth in Gilead belongs to us? And yet wedo nothing to wrest it away from the king of Aram.'
4 E disse a Iosafat: verrai tu meco a combattere in Ramot di Galaad?	4 He said to Jehoshaphat, 'Wil you come with me to attack Ramoth in Gilead?' Jehoshaphat replied tothe king of Israel, 'I will be as you, my men as yours, my horses as yours.'
5 E Iosafat disse al re d' Israel: sì come se' tu, sono io; e il popolo mio e il popolo tuo sono una cosa, e i cavalieri miei e i cavalieri tuoi. E disse Iosafat al re d' Israel: addimanda oggi per te la parola di Dio.	5 Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please enquire what the word of Yahweh is.'
6 E raunò il re d' Israel i profeti, quasi CCCC uomini, e disse loro: debbo io andare a combattere in Ramot di Galaad, ovver starmi in pace? I quali dissero ascendi, e Dominedio te li darà nelle mani.	6 The king of Israel then cal ed the prophets together, about four hundred of them. 'Should I go andattack Ramoth in Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'Go ahead,' they replied, 'for Yahweh has alreadygiven it to the king.'
7 E disse Iosafat: non c' è egli nessuno profeta di Dio, per lo quale noi possiamo domandare?	7 Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, so that we can enquirethrough him?'
8 E disse il re d'Israel a Iosafat: uno uomo ci è rimaso, per lo quale noi possiamo domandare Iddio; ma io l' hoe in odio, però che non mi profeta bene, ma sempre male; Michea figliuolo di Iemla. Al quale disse Iosafat: re, non favellare così.	8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, only unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'I hope the king's words are unjustified,' said Jehoshaphat.
9 E il re d'Israel chiamò uno eunuco, e disse a lui spaccciati (e briga) di menare Michea figliuolo di Iemla.	9 The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'
10 E il re d' Israel, e Iosafat re di Giuda sedeano ciascuno in la sua sedia, vestiti al modo regale, nell' aia presso all' uscio della porta di Samaria, e tutti i profeti profetavano nel cospetto loro.	10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes,in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets in a state of ecstasy before them.
11 E Sedecia figliuolo di Canaana si avea fatto corni di ferro, e disse: questo dice Iddio: con questi ventolerai Siria, tanto che tu la deserti.	11 Zedekiah son of Kenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "With hornslike these you wil gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '
12 E tutti i profeti somigliantemente profetavano, e diceano: ascendi in Ramot di Galaad, e va profittevolmente, e daralla Iddio nelle mani del re.	12 And all the prophets cried ecstatical y in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth in Gilead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'
13 E il messo, ch' era andato a chiamare Michea, dice a lui: ecco le parole de' profeti per una bocca predicono bene al re; onde sia la parola tua somigliante della loro, e di' buono.	13 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look here, what the prophets aresaying is uniformly favourable to the king. I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'
14 Al quale disse Michea: vive il Signore, ch' io dirò quello che il Signore mi dirà.	14 Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak as Yahweh tel s me!'
15 Or venne al re, e il re gli disse: Michea, doviamo noi andare in Ramot di Galaad a combattere, ovvero istarci in pace? E quegli disse a lui: va in pace, e Iddio la darà nelle tue mani.	15 When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we go and attack Ramoth in Gilead, orshould we hold back?' He replied, 'Go ahead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'
16 E il re disse a lui: un' altra volta io t' aggiuro che tu non dichi, se non quello ch' è vero nel nome di Dio.	16 The king then said, 'How often must I put you on oath to tell me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'
17 E quegli disse: io viddi tutto Israel sparto per li monti, come le pecore le quali non hanno pastore; e disse il Signore: costoro non hanno signore; e però ciascuno ritorni in pace a casa sua.	17 Then he spoke out: I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go safely home!'
18 E il re d'Israel disse a Iosafat: non te 'l dissi io, che costui non mi profeta altro che male?	18 At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'
19 E quelli aggiugnendo disse: però audi la parola del Signore Iddio; io viddi il Signore sedere nella sedia sua, e tutto lo esercito del cielo istare con lui dalla parte sinistra e dalla parte destra.	19 Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing by him, on his right and on his left.
20 E il Signore disse: chi ingannerà Acab re d' Israel, acciò ch' egli vada, e muoia in Ramot di Galaad? E uno disse parole d' uno modo, e uno altro d'uno altro modo.	20 Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab into marching to his death at Ramoth in Gilead?" At which someanswered one way, and some another.
21 E uscì uno spirito, e istette in cospetto di Dio, e disse: io lo ingannerò. E il Signore disse: come?	21 A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him."
22 E quegli disse: io uscirò, e sarò spirito bugiardo nella bocca di tutti i suoi profeti. Disse il Signore: tu lo ingannerai, e vincerai; esci fuori, e fa come tu hai detto.	22 "How?" Yahweh asked. He replied, "I shal go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of al hisprophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."
23 Ora ecco che il Signore hae dato lo spirito della bugia in bocca a tutti i profeti tuoi che sono qui, e il Signore hae favellato male contro a te.	23 And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of al your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'
24 E fecesi innanzi Sedecia figliuolo di Canaana, e percosse Michea nella gota, e disse: adunque ha lasciato me lo Spirito del Signore, e ha favellato a te?	24 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'
25 E disse Michea: tu il vederai in quel dì, quando entrerai in la camera, la quale è entro un' altra camera, per nasconderti.	25 'That is what you will find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'
26 E disse il re d' Israel: tollete Michea, istea con esso Amon principe della città, e con Ioas figliuolo di Amalec.	26 The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon, governor of the city, and Joash,the king's son,
27 E ditegli da mia parte ad essi: questo dice il re: mettete questo uomo in carcere, e sostentatelo di pane di tribulazione, e d' acqua d' angustia, insino a tanto ch' io ritorni in pace.	27 and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '
28 E disse Michea: se tu tornerai in pace (col Signore), il Signore non hae parlato in me. E disse: intendete, tutti popoli.	28 Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'
29 E andò il re d' Israel, e Iosafat re di Giuda, in Ramot di Galaad.	29 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth in Gilead.
30 E disse il re d' Israel a Iosafat: togli l'arme, ed entra nella battaglia, e vèstiti le tue vestimenta. Ed (egli e) il re d'Israel mutò abito, ed entrò nella battaglia.	30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shal disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.
31 Ma il re di Siria avea comandato a trentadue principi de' carri, dicendo: non combattete contro a persona nè grande nè piccola, ma solamente contro al re d' Israel.	31 Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'
32 Onde i principi de' carri, veggendo Iosafat, credetteno che fosse il re d' Israel; e fatto contro a lui grande impeto, combattevanlo, il quale Iosafat gridò forte.	32 So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is obviously the king ofIsrael,' and surrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry
33 E conobbero i principi de' carri, che non era il re d'Israel, e partironsi da lui.	33 the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.
34 E uno, tendendo l'arco, trasse una saetta e mandolla in incerto, e percosse per caso il re d' Israel tra il polmone e lo stomaco. Ed ello disse al conduttore del suo carro: volgi la mano, e trammi della battaglia, però ch' io sono gravemente ferito.	34 Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' said the king to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'
35 E fu fatta in quel dì la battaglia, e il re d'Israel istava nel carro suo contro a' Siri; e morì nel vespro, e uscia il sangue della ferita per lo seno del carro.	35 But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on and the king had to be held upright in his chariot facingthe Aramaeans, the blood from the wound running into the bottom of the chariot, until in the evening he died.
36 E i trombadori sonorono per tutta l' oste, prima che il sole tramontasse, dicendo che tutti tornino alla terra e alla sua casa.	36 At sundown a shout ran through the ranks, 'Every man back to his town, every man back to hiscountry!
37 È morto il re; e fu portato in Samaria, e seppellirono il re.	37 The king is dead.' He was taken to Samaria and in Samaria the king was buried.
38 E lavarono il carro (del sangue) nella piscina di Samaria; e i cani leccarono il sangue suo; e lavarono le rètene, secondo la parola di Dio la quale avea detta.	38 They washed the chariot at the Pool of Samaria; the dogs licked up the blood, and the prostituteswashed in it, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spoken.
39 Tutto l'altro de' fatti di Acab, e tutte le cose che fece, e la casa dello avolio che edificò, e tutte le città ch' egli fece, non è egli scritto nei fatti de' re d'Israel?	39 The rest of the history of Ahab, his entire career, the ivory house he erected, al the towns he built, isthis not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?
40 E dormi Acab co' padri suoi, e regnò Ocozia suo figliuolo per lui.	40 When Ahab fel asleep with his ancestors, his son Ahaziah succeeded him.
41 E Iosafat figliuolo di Asa avea incominciato a regnare sopra Giuda il quarto anno di Acab re d' Israel.	41 Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42 Quando incominciò a regnare, era di XXXV anni, e [XXV anni] regnò in Ierusalem; il nome della madre fu Azuba figliuola di Salai.	42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-fiveyears in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.
43 E andò per tutta la via di Asa padre suo, e non declinò da ella; e fece quello ch' era diritto nel cospetto del Signore.	43 In every way he followed the example of his father Asa undeviatingly, doing what is pleasing toYahweh.
44 Ma pure non tolse via i luoghi alti; onde anche il popolo sacrificava, e offeriva l'incenso ne' luoghi alti.	44 The high places, however, were not abolished; the people stil offered sacrifice and incense on thehigh places.
45 Ed ebbe Iosafat pace col re d' Israel.	45 Jehoshaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.
46 Tutto l'altro de' fatti di Iosafat, e le sue opere e le battaglie, non sono elleno ne' libri dei fatti de' re di Giuda?	46 The rest of the history of Jehoshaphat, the valour he showed, the wars he waged, is this not recordedin the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Judah?
47 E anche le reliquie delli effeminati, li quali erano rimasi dal tempo di Asa suo padre, tolse egli di sopra la terra.	47 The few male sacred prostitutes left over from the days of his father Asa, he expel ed from thecountry.
48 E allora non era re in Edom.	48 At the time, Edom had no king, and King
49 E questo re [Iosafat] avea fatto navi in mare, le quali andassero in Ofir per l'oro; e non v' andarono, però che si romperono in Asiongaber.	49 Jehoshaphat built ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they never made the voyage since theships were wrecked at Ezion-Geber.
50 E allora disse Ocozia figliuolo di Acab a Iosafat: vadano i servi tuoi con esso i servi miei nelle navi. E non volse Iosafat.	50 Ahaziah son of Ahab then proposed to Jehoshaphat, 'Let my men go to sea with yours.' ButJehoshaphat would not agree.
51 E dormì [Iosafat] colli padri suoi, e fu seppellito con esso loro nella città di David suo padre; e regnò Ioram suo figliuolo per lui.	51 When Jehoshaphat fel asleep with his ancestors he was buried in the City of his ancestor, David; hisson Jehoram succeeded him.
52 Ocozia figliuolo di Acab avea cominciato a regnare sopra Israel in Samaria [nel XVII anno di Iosafat re di Giuda], e regnò sopra Israel due anni.	52 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king ofJudah, and reigned over Israel for two years.
53 E fece male nel cospetto di Dio, e andò per (tutta) la via del padre suo e della madre sua, e nella via di Ieroboam figliuolo di Nabat, il quale fece peccare Israel.	53 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, by following the example of his father and mother, and ofJeroboam son of Nebat who had led Israel into sin.
54 E servi a Baal, e adorollo, e provocò il Signore Iddio d' Israel, in tutte quelle cose che avea fatto il padre suo.	54 He served Baal and worshipped him, and provoked the anger of Yahweh God of Israel just as hisfather had done.
