1 Mandò Iddio a David Natan; il quale venuto dissegli così: egli erano due uomini in una città, uno ricco e l'altro povero.	1 Yahweh sent the prophet Nathan to David. He came to him and said: In the same town were two men,one rich, the other poor.
2 Il ricco avea pecore e buoi molti.	2 The rich man had flocks and herds in great abundance;
3 Il povero non avea se non una pecorella piccolina, la quale avea comperata e nutricata, ed era cresciuta appo lui, con esso i suoi figliuoli insieme, del suo pane e del suo bere vivendo, e dormendo con esso lui; ed era a lui come sua figliuola.	3 the poor man had nothing but a ewe lamb, only a single little one which he had bought. He fostered itand it grew up with him and his children, eating his bread, drinking from his cup, sleeping in his arms; it was likea daughter to him.
4 E venuto uno forestiere a quello ricco, perdonando alle sue pecore e alli suoi buoi, per fare convito a quel forestiere il quale era andato a lui, tolse la pecorella (sua, cioè la pecora) del povero, e apparecchiò da mangiare a quelli ch' erano venuti a lui.	4 When a traveller came to stay, the rich man would not take anything from his own flock or herd toprovide for the wayfarer who had come to him. Instead, he stole the poor man's lamb and prepared that for hisguest.
5 E irato molto David, incontro a quell' uomo, di grande indignazione disse a Natan: vive il Signore, che l'uomo ch' hae fatto questo, è degno di morte.	5 David flew into a great rage with the man. 'As Yahweh lives,' he said to Nathan 'the man who did thisdeserves to die.
6 Per la pecora renderà prima quattro, per questo ch' hae fatto, e non perdonò.	6 For doing such a thing and for having shown no pity, he shal make fourfold restitution for the lamb.'
7 E Natan disse a David: tu se' quello uomo (che fatto hae questa cosa). Questo dice il Signore Iddio d' Israel: io unsi te re sopra Israel, e io ti guardai delle mani di Saul,	7 Nathan then said to David, 'You are the man! Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I anointed you king ofIsrael, I saved you from Saul's clutches,
8 e diediti la casa del signore tuo, e le mogli del signore tuo nel tuo seno, e hotti data la casa d'Israel e di Giuda; e se queste ti paiono piccole cose, aggiugnerò troppo maggiori.	8 I gave you your master's household and your master's wives into your arms, I gave you the House ofIsrael and the House of Judah; and, if this is stil too little, I shal give you other things as wel .
9 Perchè dunque contemnesti la parola del Signore, e hai fatto male nel mio cospetto? Urìa Eteo hai morto di coltello, e la donna sua hai tolta per moglie, e ha'lo morto di coltello da' figliuoli di Ammon.	9 Why did you show contempt for Yahweh, by doing what displeases him? You put Uriah the Hittite tothe sword, you took his wife to be your wife, causing his death by the sword of the Ammonites.
10 Per la qual cosa non si partirà il coltello della tua casa in sempiterno, però che tu hai dispregiato me, e la moglie d' Urìa hai fatto tua moglie.	10 For this, your household wil never be free of the sword, since you showed contempt for me and tookthe wife of Uriah the Hittite, to make her your wife."
11 E però questo dice il Signore: ecco che di casa tua io ti susciterò male, e torrò le tue mogli negli occhii tuoi, e darolle al prossimo tuo, e dormirà con esso loro negli occhi di questo sole.	11 'Yahweh says this, "Out of your own household I shal raise misfortune for you. Before your very eyesI shal take your wives and give them to your neighbour, who wil lie with your wives in broad daylight.
12 Tu l' hai fatto nascoso; e io il farò nel cospetto di tutto Israel, e nel cospetto del sole.	12 You have worked in secret, but I shall work this for al Israel to see, in broad daylight." '
13 E David disse a Natan: io ho peccato al Signore. E disse Natan a David: il Signore sì ha trasmutato il tuo peccato; non morrai.	13 David said to Nathan, 'I have sinned against Yahweh.' Nathan then said to David, 'Yahweh, for hispart, forgives your sin; you are not to die.
14 Ma però che tu hai fatto bestemmiare li nemici il nome del Signore per questo fatto, il figliuolo che t' è nato morrà.	14 But, since you have outraged Yahweh by doing this, the child born to you wil die.'
15 E ritornossi Natan in casa sua; e percosse Iddio il fanciullo, il quale la moglie di Urìa avea partorito a David; e fu isfidato.	15 And Nathan went home. Yahweh struck the child which Uriah's wife had borne to David and it felgravely il .
16 E David pregò Iddio per lo fanciullo; e digiunò David a Dio, ed entrato in luogo secreto giacque in terra.	16 David pleaded with Yahweh for the child; he kept a strict fast and went home and spent the nightlying on the ground, covered with sacking.
17 E vennero gli antichi di casa sua, e costringevanlo che si levasse di terra; il quale non volse, e non mangiò con loro.	17 The officials of his household stood round him, intending to get him off the ground, but he refused,nor would he take food with them.
18 E intervenne che il settimo dì il fanciullo morì; e temeano i servi di David di dirgli che il fanciullo fosse morto, e diceano: ecco che vivendo il fanciullo, noi gli favellammo, e non ci volea intendere; quanto maggiormente s'affligerà, se noi diremo che il fanciullo sì è morto?	18 On the seventh day the child died. David's retinue were afraid to tel him that the child was dead.'Even when the child was alive', they thought, 'we reasoned with him and he would not listen to us. How can wetel him that the child is dead? He wil do something desperate.'
19 E vedendo David mugitare i servi suoi, conobbe che il fanciullo era morto, e disse a' servi suoi: è egli morto il fanciullo? Li quali respuosero: morto è.	19 David, however, noticed that his retinue were whispering among themselves, and realised that thechild was dead. 'Is the child dead?' he asked the officers. They replied, 'He is dead.'
20 E levossi David di terra, e lavossi e unsesi; e mutate le vestimenta, andò alla casa di Dio, e adorò. E vènnesene in casa sua, e comandò che fosse apparecchiato, e mangiò.	20 David got off the ground, bathed and anointed himself and put on fresh clothes. Then he went intoYahweh's sanctuary and prostrated himself. On returning to his house, he asked to be served with food and ateit.
21 E dissero a lui li servi suoi: che è quello che tu hai fatto? per lo fanciullo, tanto ch' era vivo, digiunavi e piagnevi; e come egli fu morto, tu ti levasti e mangiasti?	21 His retinue said, 'Why are you acting like this? When the child was alive, you fasted and wept; nowthat the child is dead, you get up and take food!'
22 Il quale rispuose: per lo fanciullo, tanto ch' egli era vivo, io digiunava e piagnea; e dicea in me medesimo: or chi sa, se Iddio mel donasse e vivesse il fanciullo?	22 'When the child was alive', he replied, 'I fasted and wept because I kept thinking, "Who knows?Perhaps Yahweh wil take pity on me and the child wil live."
23 Ora che è morto, perchè digiunerei? potrò io ricoverarlo? io andrò a lui, ed egli non tornerà mai a me.	23 But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shal go to him but hecannot come back to me.'
24 E consold David Bersabee sua moglie, ed entrato dormì con lei; la quale concepette e partorì uno figliuolo, e puosegli nome Salomone, e Iddio l' amoe.	24 David consoled his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and slept with her. She conceived and gave birthto a son, whom she called Solomon. Yahweh loved him
25 E miselo nelle mani di Natan profeta, chiamollo il suo nome AMABILE AL SIGNORE, però che Iddio lo amava.	25 and made this known by means of the prophet Nathan, who named him Jedidiah, as Yahweh hadinstructed.
26 E Ioab combattea contro Rabbat (re) de' figliuoli di Ammon, e combattea la città regale.	26 Joab assaulted Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites and captured the royal town.
27 E mandò Ioab messi a David, dicendo: io ho combattuto contro Rabbat, e conviene che la CITTÀ DELLE ACQUE sia presa.	27 He then sent messengers to tel David, 'I have assaulted Rabbah and captured the water supply.
28 Ora rauna l'altra parte del popolo, e assediala e pigliala, acciò che non sia appropriata a me la vittoria, pigliandola io.	28 So now muster the rest of the army, lay siege to the town and take it, or I wil take it and the town wilbe cal ed after me!'
29 Per la qual cosa David congregò tutto il popolo contro a Rabbat; e combattutala, egli la prese.	29 So David mustered the whole army and marched on Rabbah; he assaulted the town and captured it.
30 E tolse la corona d'oro del re, cioè di capo, di peso d'uno talento d'oro, la quale avea gemme preziosissime; e fu posta sopra il capo di David. Della città tolse e portò molta preda.	30 He took the crown off Milcom's head; it weighed one talent of gold, and in it was set a precious stonewhich went on David's head instead. He carried off great quantities of booty from the town.'
31 E menando il popolo di quella, menò sopra di loro carri ferrati; e alcuno ne divise con coltelli, e afflissegli a diverse pene; e così fece a tutte le città de' figliuoli d' Ammon. E tornò David, e tutto lo esercito, in Ierusalem.	31 And he expel ed its inhabitants, setting them to work with saws, iron picks and iron axes, employingthem at brickmaking. He treated all the Ammonite towns in the same way. David and the whole army returned toJerusalem.
