1 Fatta si è la fame sopra la terra, dopo quella sterilità ch' era venuta ne'dì d'Abraam. Andò Isaac ad Abimelec, re de' Palestini, in Gerara.	1 And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.
2 E apparì lui lo Signore, e disse: non andare in Egitto, ma ripòsati nella terra la quale io ti dirò.	2 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
3 E pellegrina in quella, ed io sarò teco e be nedicerò a te. In verità a te e al seme tuo darò tutte queste generazioni, e compieroe lo giuramento ch' io promisi ad Abraam tuo padre.	3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;
4 E moltiplicherò lo seme tuo siccome le stelle del cielo; e darò a quelli che esciranno di te, drieto a te, queste generazioni; e saranno benedette nel seme tuo tutte le genti della terra.	4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
5 Imperciò che ubbidi Abraam alla voce mia, e obbedì i prieghi e i comandamenti miei, e le cose sacre e le leggi guardoe.	5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.
6 Adunque stette Isaac in Gerara.	6 And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:
7 Al quale conciosia cosa che fosse domandato dagli uomini di quello luogo sopra la moglie sua, rispuose: mia sorocchia è. Ed in verità egli temeva di confessare ch' ella fosse accompagnata a lui in matrimonio, reputante che (per la vergogna e con coperta ira) eglino l'uccidessero per la bellezza di lei.	7 And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.
8 Conciosia cosa che trapassassero molti dì, e stesse quivi, ragguardante Abimelec, Re de' Palestini, per una fenestra, vedde lui giacere con Rebecca sua moglie.	8 And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.
9 E fattolosi venire a se, disse: cosa vera è, che sia la tua moglie; perchè dicesti bugia, ch' ella fosse tua sorocchia? Rispuose: io temetti, acciò ch' io non morissi per lei.	9 And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.
10 E disse Abimelec: perchè imponesti a noi? poteva usare niuno del popolo con la moglie tua; e avevi menato sopra di noi grande peccato. E co mandò ad ogni popolo, dicente:	10 And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.
11 Colui che toccherà la moglie di questo uomo, di morte morrà.	11 And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.
12 Istette adunque Isaac in questa terra, e seminò, e trovoe in quello anno cento doppii; e bene disse lui lo Signore.	12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
13 E fatto è ricchissimo uomo; e andava facendo pro' molto, e crebbe in tanto, che molto grandissimo fatto è.	13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
14 Ebbe delle possessioni e delle pecore, ed armenta e molte famiglie. E per queste cose mossi da invidia a lui i Palestini,	14 For he had possession of flocks, and possessions of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
15 tutti i pozzi ch’aveano cavato i servi d'Abraam, padre suo, in quello tempo guastarono implendoli di terra,	15 For all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.
16 intanto ch' egli medesimo Abimelec disse ad Isaac: partiti da noi, imperciò che tu sei fatto molto più potente di noi.	16 And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.
17 Ed egli, dipartentesi acciò che venisse al torrente Gerara ed abitasse quivi,	17 And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
18 un'altra volta cavò altri pozzi i quali aveano cavati i servi del padre suo Abraam, i quali, esso morto, aveano guasti i Filistei; e chiamò loro per quelli medesimi nomi, per li quali innanzi lo padre gli avea chiamati.	18 And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
19 E cavarono nel torrente, e trovarono l'acqua viva.	19 And Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
20 Ma quivi fu contenzione tra i pastori di Gerara contro i pastori d'Isaac, dicendo: nostra è l'acqua. Per la quale cosa lo nome del pozzo, per quello che n'era intervenuto, chiamò CALUNNIA.	20 And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
21 E cavàronne un altro; e per quello in verità si sono azzuffati, e chiamò quello INIMISTÀ.	21 And they digged another well, and strove for that also:and he called the name of it Sitnah.
22 E partitosi quindi, cavò un altro pozzo, per lo quale non contendèro: adunque chiamò lo nome di quello LARGHEZZA, dicendo: ora ci adilatoe noi il Signore, e fece crescere sopra la terra.	22 And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
23 E partissi di quello luogo, e andonne in Bersabea.	23 And he went up from thence to Beer-sheba.
24 Dove gli apparì lo Signore in quella notte, dicendo: io sono Iddio d'Abraam padre tuo; non temere, per ciò ch' io sono teco, e benedicerò te, e moltiplicherò lo seme tuo per lo servo mio Abraam.	24 And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.
25 Adunque edificò quivi l'altare al Signore; e chiamato qui lo nome del Signore, istese quivi lo tabernacolo; e comandò a' servi suoi, che cavassero lo pozzo.	25 And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac's servants digged a well.
26 Al quale luogo essendo eglino venuti da Gerara Abimelec e Ocozat amico suo e Ficol duca di cavalieri,	26 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.
27 favelló a loro Isaac: perchè veniste voi a me, uomo il quale avete odiato, e cacciasti da voi?	27 And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?
28 Li quali rispuosero: noi vediamo con te essere lo Signore Iddio, ed imperciò: ecco, dicemmo, sia giuramento intra noi, e facciamo patto,	28 And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;
29 che tu non facci a noi punto di male, siccome noi niuna cosa delle tue toccammo, nè facemmo niuna cosa che ti offendesse, ma con pace lasciammo lo fatto per la benedizione del Signore.	29 That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD.
30 E fece adunque loro lo convito; e dopo lo cibo e il beveraggio,	30 And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.
31 levandosi la mattina, giurarono, e lasciarono Isaac pacificamente nel luogo suo.	31 And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
32 Ma ecco che in quel dì vennero li servi d'Isaac, annunzianti a lui del pozzo ch' eglino aveano cavato, e dicenti: noi abbiamo trovata l'acqua.	32 And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.
33 Donde appellò lui ABBONDANZA; ed il nome alla città imposto è BERSABEA insino al presente die.	33 And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beer-sheba unto this day.
34 Ma Esaù di xL anni menò due moglie, Iudit figliuola di Beeri Eteo, e Basemat figliuola di Elon di quello medesimo luogo.	34 And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:
35 Le quali amendue aveano offeso l'animo d'Isaac e di Rebecca.	35 Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.
