1 וּבְנֵי רְאוּבֵן בְּכֹור־יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי הוּא הַבְּכֹור וּבְחַלְּלֹו יְצוּעֵי אָבִיו נִתְּנָה בְּכֹרָתֹו לִבְנֵי יֹוסֵף בֶּן־יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא לְהִתְיַחֵשׂ לַבְּכֹרָה	1 Sons of Reuben, first-born of Israel. He was indeed the first-born but, when he defiled his father's bed,his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel, and he was no longer reckoned as the eldest son.
2 כִּי יְהוּדָה גָּבַר בְּאֶחָיו וּלְנָגִיד מִמֶּנּוּ וְהַבְּכֹרָה לְיֹוסֵף׃ ס	2 Although Judah grew greater than his brothers and a leader came from him, the birthright wasJoseph's.
3 בְּנֵי רְאוּבֵן בְּכֹור יִשְׂרָאֵל חֲנֹוךְ וּפַלּוּא חֶצְרֹון וְכַרְמִי	3 Sons of Reuben, first-born of Israel: Henoch, Pal u, Hezron, Carmi.
4 בְּנֵי יֹואֵל שְׁמַעְיָה בְנֹו גֹּוג בְּנֹו שִׁמְעִי בְנֹו	4 Sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,
5 מִיכָה בְנֹו רְאָיָה בְנֹו בַּעַל בְּנֹו	5 Micah his son, Reaiah his son, Baal his son.
6 בְּאֵרָה בְנֹו אֲשֶׁר הֶגְלָה תִּלְּגַת פִּלְנְאֶסֶר מֶלֶךְ אַשֻּׁר הוּא נָשִׂיא לָראוּבֵנִי	6 Beerah his son, whom Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria carried off into exile, was the chief of theReubenites.
7 וְאֶחָיו לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָיו בְּהִתְיַחֵשׂ לְתֹלְדֹותָם הָרֹאשׁ יְעִיאֵל וּזְכַרְיָהוּ	7 His brothers, by families, were grouped according to relationship. Jeiel was first, then Zechariah
8 וּבֶלַע בֶּן־עָזָז בֶּן־שֶׁמַע בֶּן־יֹואֵל הוּא יֹושֵׁב בַּעֲרֹעֵר וְעַד־נְבֹו וּבַעַל מְעֹון	8 and Bela son of Azaz, son of Shema, son of Joel. It was Reuben who lived in Aroer and his territoryextended as far as Nebo and Baal-Meon.
9 וְלַמִּזְרָח יָשַׁב עַד־לְבֹוא מִדְבָּרָה לְמִן־הַנָּהָר פְּרָת כִּי מִקְנֵיהֶם רָבוּ בְּאֶרֶץ גִּלְעָד	9 To eastward, what he occupied extended to the edge of the desert and the River Euphrates, for theyhad many herds in Gilead.
10 וּבִימֵי שָׁאוּל עָשׂוּ מִלְחָמָה עִם־הַהַגְרִאִים וַיִּפְּלוּ בְּיָדָם וַיֵּשְׁבוּ בְּאָהֳלֵיהֶם עַל־כָּל־פְּנֵי מִזְרָח לַגִּלְעָד׃ פ	10 In the time of Saul, they made war on the Hagrites, whom they defeated and who were then living intheir tents throughout the eastern front of Gilead.
11 וּבְנֵי־גָד לְנֶגְדָּם יָשְׁבוּ בְּאֶרֶץ הַבָּשָׁן עַד־סַלְכָה	11 Next to them, in Bashan as far as Salecah, lived the sons of Gad.
12 יֹואֵל הָרֹאשׁ וְשָׁפָם הַמִּשְׁנֶה וְיַעְנַי וְשָׁפָט בַּבָּשָׁן	12 Joel was the first, Shapham the second, then Janai and Shaphat in Bashan.
13 וַאֲחֵיהֶם לְבֵית אֲבֹותֵיהֶם מִיכָאֵל וּמְשֻׁלָּם וְשֶׁבַע וְיֹורַי וְיַעְכָּן וְזִיעַ וָעֵבֶר שִׁבְעָה׃ ס	13 Their brothers, by families, were Michael, Meshul am, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia, Eber: seven.
14 אֵלֶּה ׀ בְּנֵי אֲבִיחַיִל בֶּן־חוּרִי בֶּן־יָרֹוחַ בֶּן־גִּלְעָד בֶּן־מִיכָאֵל בֶּן־יְשִׁישַׁי בֶּן־יַחְדֹּו בֶּן־בּוּז	14 These were the sons of Abihail: Ben-Huri, Ben-Jaroah, Ben-Gilead, Ben-Michael, Ben-Jeshishai, Ben-Jahdo, Ben-Buz.
15 אֲחִי בֶּן־עַבְדִּיאֵל בֶּן־גּוּנִי רֹאשׁ לְבֵית אֲבֹותָם	15 Ahi son of Abdiel, son of Guni, was the head of their families.
16 וַיֵּשְׁבוּ בַּגִּלְעָד בַּבָּשָׁן וּבִבְנֹתֶיהָ וּבְכָל־מִגְרְשֵׁי שָׁרֹון עַל־תֹּוצְאֹותָם	16 They inhabited Gilead, Bashan and its dependencies, as wel as al the pasture lands of Sharon ontheir extremities.
17 כֻּלָּם הִתְיַחְשׂוּ בִּימֵי יֹותָם מֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָה וּבִימֵי יָרָבְעָם מֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ פ	17 In the time of Jotham king of Judah and in the time of Jeroboam king of Israel, al of them wereincluded in the official genealogy.
18 בְּנֵי־רְאוּבֵן וְגָדִי וַחֲצִי שֵׁבֶט־מְנַשֶּׁה מִן־בְּנֵי־חַיִל אֲנָשִׁים נֹשְׂאֵי מָגֵן וְחֶרֶב וְדֹרְכֵי קֶשֶׁת וּלְמוּדֵי מִלְחָמָה אַרְבָּעִים וְאַרְבָּעָה אֶלֶף וּשְׁבַע־מֵאֹות וְשִׁשִּׁים יֹצְאֵי צָבָא	18 The sons of Reuben, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh had warriors, men armed with shieldand sword who could handle the bow and were trained for war, to the number of forty-four thousand sevenhundred and sixty fit for service.
19 וַיַּעֲשׂוּ מִלְחָמָה עִם־הַהַגְרִיאִים וִיטוּר וְנָפִישׁ וְנֹודָב	19 They made war on the Hagrites, on Jetur, Naphish and Nodab.
20 וַיֵּעָזְרוּ עֲלֵיהֶם וַיִּנָּתְנוּ בְיָדָם הַהַגְרִיאִים וְכֹל שֶׁעִמָּהֶם כִּי לֵאלֹהִים זָעֲקוּ בַּמִּלְחָמָה וְנַעְתֹּור לָהֶם כִּי־בָטְחוּ בֹו	20 God came to their help, and the Hagrites and al their al ies fel into their hands, for they cal ed on Godas they fought, and because they put their trust in him he heard their prayer.
21 וַיִּשְׁבּוּ מִקְנֵיהֶם גְּמַלֵּיהֶם חֲמִשִּׁים אֶלֶף וְצֹאן מָאתַיִם וַחֲמִשִּׁים אֶלֶף וַחֲמֹורִים אַלְפָּיִם וְנֶפֶשׁ אָדָם מֵאָה אָלֶף	21 Of their livestock they carried off fifty thousand camels, two hundred and fifty thousand sheep, twothousand donkeys and a hundred thousand people.
22 כִּי־חֲלָלִים רַבִּים נָפָלוּ כִּי מֵהָאֱלֹהִים הַמִּלְחָמָה וַיֵּשְׁבוּ תַחְתֵּיהֶם עַד־הַגֹּלָה׃ פ	22 Because the war was of God, the slaughter was great. They continued to live in their territory until theexile.
23 וּבְנֵי חֲצִי שֵׁבֶט מְנַשֶּׁה יָשְׁבוּ בָּאָרֶץ מִבָּשָׁן עַד־בַּעַל חֶרְמֹון וּשְׂנִיר וְהַר־חֶרְמֹון הֵמָּה רָבוּ	23 The sons of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the territory between Bashan and Baal-Hermon, Senirand Mount Hermon. They were numerous.
24 וְאֵלֶּה רָאשֵׁי בֵית־אֲבֹותָם וְעֵפֶר וְיִשְׁעִי וֶאֱלִיאֵל וְעַזְרִיאֵל וְיִרְמְיָה וְהֹודַוְיָה וְיַחְדִּיאֵל אֲנָשִׁים גִּבֹּורֵי חַיִל אַנְשֵׁי שֵׁמֹות רָאשִׁים לְבֵית אֲבֹותָם	24 These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, Jahdiel -- stoutfighting men, men of renown, heads of their families.
25 וַיִּמְעֲלוּ בֵּאלֹהֵי אֲבֹותֵיהֶם וַיִּזְנוּ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהֵי עַמֵּי־הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר־הִשְׁמִיד אֱלֹהִים מִפְּנֵיהֶם	25 But since they were unfaithful to the God of their ancestors and prostituted themselves to the gods ofthe peoples of the country whom God had destroyed before them,
26 וַיָּעַר אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־רוּחַ ׀ פּוּל מֶלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּר וְאֶת־רוּחַ תִּלְּגַת פִּלְנֶסֶר מֶלֶךְ אַשּׁוּר וַיַּגְלֵם לָראוּבֵנִי וְלַגָּדִי וְלַחֲצִי שֵׁבֶט מְנַשֶּׁה וַיְבִיאֵם לַחְלַח וְחָבֹור וְהָרָא וּנְהַר גֹּוזָן עַד הַיֹּום הַזֶּה׃ פ	26 the God of Israel roused the hostility of Pul, king of Assyria, that is the wrath of Tiglath-Pileser, king ofAssyria who deported them -- the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh -- taking them off toHalah, Habor, Hara and the river of Gozan. They are stil there today.
27 בְּנֵי לֵוִי גֵּרְשֹׁון קְהָת וּמְרָרִי	27 Sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath and Merari.
28 וּבְנֵי קְהָת עַמְרָם יִצְהָר וְחֶבְרֹון וְעֻזִּיאֵל׃ ס	28 Sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, Uzziel.
29 וּבְנֵי עַמְרָם אַהֲרֹן וּמֹשֶׁה וּמִרְיָם ס וּבְנֵי אַהֲרֹן נָדָב וַאֲבִיהוּא אֶלְעָזָר וְאִיתָמָר׃ ס	29 Children of Amram: Aaron, Moses and Miriam. Sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar andIthamar.
30 אֶלְעָזָר הֹולִיד אֶת־פִּינְחָס פִּינְחָס הֹלִיד אֶת־אֲבִישׁוּעַ	30 Eleazar fathered Phinehas, Phinehas fathered Abishua,
31 וַאֲבִישׁוּעַ הֹולִיד אֶת־בֻּקִּי וּבֻקִּי הֹולִיד אֶת־עֻזִּי	31 Abishua fathered Bukki, Bukki fathered Uzzi.
32 וְעֻזִּי הֹולִיד אֶת־זְרַחְיָה וּזְרַחְיָה הֹולִיד אֶת־מְרָיֹות	32 Uzzi fathered Zerahiah, Zerahiah fathered Meraioth.
33 מְרָיֹות הֹולִיד אֶת־אֲמַרְיָה וַאֲמַרְיָה הֹולִיד אֶת־אֲחִיטוּב	33 Meraioth fathered Amariah, Amariah fathered Ahitub,
34 וַאֲחִיטוּב הֹולִיד אֶת־צָדֹוק וְצָדֹוק הֹולִיד אֶת־אֲחִימָעַץ	34 Ahitub fathered Zadok, Zadok fathered Ahimaaz.
35 וַאֲחִימַעַץ הֹולִיד אֶת־עֲזַרְיָה וַעֲזַרְיָה הֹולִיד אֶת־יֹוחָנָן	35 Ahimaaz fathered Azariah, Azariah fathered Johanan.
36 וְיֹוחָנָן הֹולִיד אֶת־עֲזַרְיָה הוּא אֲשֶׁר כִּהֵן בַּבַּיִת אֲשֶׁר־בָּנָה שְׁלֹמֹה בִּירוּשָׁלִָם	36 Johanan fathered Azariah. He it was who officiated as priest in the Temple which Solomon built inJerusalem.
37 וַיֹּולֶד עֲזַרְיָה אֶת־אֲמַרְיָה וַאֲמַרְיָה הֹולִיד אֶת־אֲחִיטוּב	37 Azariah fathered Amariah, Amariah fathered Ahitub,
38 וַאֲחִיטוּב הֹולִיד אֶת־צָדֹוק וְצָדֹוק הֹולִיד אֶת־שַׁלּוּם	38 Ahitub fathered Zadok, Zadok fathered Shallum,
39 וְשַׁלּוּם הֹולִיד אֶת־חִלְקִיָּה וְחִלְקִיָּה הֹולִיד אֶת־עֲזַרְיָה	39 Shallum fathered Hilkiah, Hilkiah fathered Azariah,
40 וַעֲזַרְיָה הֹולִיד אֶת־שְׂרָיָה וּשְׂרָיָה הֹולִיד אֶת־יְהֹוצָדָק	40 Azariah fathered Seraiah, Seraiah fathered Jehozadak,
41 וִיהֹוצָדָק הָלַךְ בְּהַגְלֹות יְהוָה אֶת־יְהוּדָה וִירוּשָׁלִָם בְּיַד נְבֻכַדְנֶאצַּר׃ ס	41 and Jehozadak went into exile when, at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, Yahweh exiled Judah andJerusalem.
