SAGRADA BIBLIANOVA VULGATA
1 Deponde, pois, toda malícia, toda astúcia, fingimentos, invejas e toda espécie de maledicência.1 Deponentes igitur omnem ma litiam et omnem dolum et simu lationes etinvidias et omnes detractiones,
2 as newborn babes desire earnestly the pure mental milk of the word, that by it ye may grow up to salvation,2 sicut modo geniti infantes, rationale sinedolo lac concupiscite, ut in eo crescatis in salutem,
3 if indeed ye have tasted that the Lord {is} good.3 si gustastis quoniamdulcis Dominus.
4 yourselves also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.4 Ad quem accedentes, lapidem vivum, ab hominibus quidemreprobatum, coram Deo autem electum, pretiosum,
5 Because it is contained in the scripture: Behold, I lay in Zion a corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be put to shame.5 et ipsi tamquam lapides viviaedificamini domus spiritalis in sacerdotium sanctum offerre spiritales hostiasacceptabiles Deo per Iesum Christum.
6 To you therefore who believe {is} the preciousness; but to the disobedient, the stone which the builders cast away as worthless, this is become head of {the} corner,6 Propter quod continet Scriptura:
“ Ecce pono in Sion lapidem angularem, electum, pretiosum;
et, qui credit in eo, non confundetur ”.
7 and a stone of stumbling and rock of offence; {who} stumble at the word, being disobedient to which also they have been appointed.7 Vobis igitur honor credentibus; non credentibus autem
“ Lapis, quem reprobaverunt aedificantes, hic factus est in caput anguli ”
8 But *ye* {are} a chosen race, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a people for a possession, that ye might set forth the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness to his wonderful light;8 et “ lapis offensionis et petra scandali ”; qui offendunt verbo noncredentes, in quod et positi sunt.
9 who once {were} not a people, but now God?s people; who were not enjoying mercy, but now have found mercy.9 Vos autem genus electum, regale sacerdotium, gens sancta, populus inacquisitionem, ut virtutes annuntietis eius, qui de tenebris vos vocavit inadmirabile lumen suum:
10 Beloved, I exhort {you}, as strangers and sojourners, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;10 qui aliquando non populus, nunc autem populus Dei; quinon consecuti misericordiam, nunc autem misericordiam consecuti.
11 having your conversation honest among the Gentiles, that {as to that} in which they speak against you as evildoers, they may through {your} good works, {themselves} witnessing {them}, glorify God in {the} day of visitation.11 Carissimi, obsecro tamquam advenas et peregrinos abstinere vos a carnalibusdesideriis, quae militant adversus animam;
12 or to rulers as sent by him, for vengeance on evildoers, and praise to them that do well.12 conversationem vestram intergentes habentes bonam, ut in eo, quod detrectant de vobis tamquam demalefactoribus, ex bonis operibus considerantes glorificent Deum in dievisitationis.
13 Because so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye put to silence the ignorance of senseless men;13 Subiecti estote omni humanae creaturae propter Dominum: sive regi quasipraecellenti
14 as free, and not as having liberty as a cloak of malice, but as God?s bondmen.14 sive ducibus tamquam ab eo missis ad vindictam malefactorum,laudem vero bonorum;
15 Shew honour to all, love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king.15 quia sic est voluntas Dei, ut benefacientes obmutescerefaciatis imprudentium hominum ignorantiam,
16 Servants, {be} subject with all fear to your masters, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the ill-tempered.16 quasi liberi, et non quasi velamenhabentes malitiae libertatem, sed sicut servi Dei.
17 For this {is} acceptable, if one, for conscience sake towards God, endure griefs, suffering unjustly.17 Omnes honorate, fraternitatem diligite, Deum timete, regem honorificate.
18 For what glory {is it}, if sinning and being buffeted ye shall bear {it}? but if, doing good and suffering, ye shall bear {it}, this is acceptable with God.18 Servi, subditi estote in omni timore dominis, non tantum bonis et modestissed etiam pravis.
19 For to this have ye been called; for Christ also has suffered for you, leaving you a model that ye should follow in his steps:19 Haec est enim gratia, si propter conscientiam Dei sustinetquis tristitias, patiens iniuste.
20 who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth;20 Quae enim gloria est, si peccantes etcolaphizati sustinetis? Sed si benefacientes et patientes sustinetis, haec estgratia apud Deum.
21 who, {when} reviled, reviled not again; {when} suffering, threatened not; but gave {himself} over into the hands of him who judges righteously;21 In hoc enim vocati estis, quia
et Christus passus est pro vobis,
vobis relinquens exemplum,
ut sequamini vestigia eius:
22 who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, in order that, being dead to sins, we may live to righteousness: by whose stripes ye have been healed.22 qui peccatum non fecit,
nec inventus est dolus in ore ipsius;
23 For ye were going astray as sheep, but have now returned to the shepherd and overseer of your souls.23 qui cum malediceretur, non remaledicebat;
cum pateretur, non comminabatur, commendabat autem iuste iudicanti;
24 qui peccata nostra ipse pertulit
in corpore suo super lignum,
ut peccatis mortui iustitiae viveremus;
cuius livore sanati estis.
25 Eratis enim sicut oves errantes,
sed conversi estis nunc ad pastorem et episcopum animarum vestrarum.
