Deuteronômio 24

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Se um homem, tendo escolhido uma mulher, casar-se com ela, e vier a odiá-la por descobrir nela qualquer coisa inconveniente, escreverá uma letra de divórcio, lha entregará na mão e a despedirá de sua casa.	1 'Suppose a man has taken a wife and consummated the marriage; but she has not pleased him andhe has found some impropriety of which to accuse her; he has therefore made out a writ of divorce for her andhanded it to her and then dismissed her from his house;
2 Se ela, depois de ter saído de sua casa, desposar outro homem,	2 she leaves his home and goes away to become the wife of another man.
3 e este também a odiar, escrevendo e dando-lhe na mão uma letra de divórcio e despedindo-a de sua casa, ou então, se este segundo marido vier a falecer,	3 Then suppose this second man who has married her takes a dislike to her and makes out a writ ofdivorce for her and hands it to her and dismisses her from his house or if this other man who took her as his wifedies,
4 não poderá o primeiro marido, que a repudiou, tomá-la de novo por mulher depois de ela se contaminar, porque isso é uma abominação aos olhos do Senhor e não deves comprometer com esse pecado a terra que te dá em herança o Senhor, teu Deus.	4 her first husband, who has repudiated her, may not take her back as his wife now that she has beenmade unclean in this way. For that is detestable in Yahweh's eyes and you must not bring guilt on the countrywhich Yahweh your God is giving you as your heritage.
5 Quando um homem se tiver casado recentemente, não irá à guerra e não se lhe imporá cargo algum. Durante; um ano estará livremente em seu lar para tornar feliz a mulher que ele desposou.	5 'If a man is newly married, he must not join the army, nor must he be pestered at home; he must beleft at home, free of al obligations for one year, to make his new wife happy.
6 Não se tomarão como Senhor as duas pedras do moinho, nem que seja somente a pedra móvel, porque seria tomar como penhor a própria vida.	6 'No one may take a mil or a mil stone in pledge; that would be to take life itself in pledge.
7 Se se encontrar um homem que tenha raptado um de seus irmãos israelitas, para fazer dele seu escravo, e o vender, esse raptor será punido de morte. Assim, tirarás o mal do meio de ti.	7 'If anyone is caught, having kidnapped one of his brother-Israelites, whether he makes him his slaveor sel s him, that thief must die. You must banish this evil from among you.
8 Toma precauções contra a praga da lepra, observando e praticando cuidadosamente tudo o que te ensinarem os sacerdotes levíticos. Cumpre fielmente tudo o que ordenei a esse respeito.	8 'In a case of a virulent skin-disease, take care you faithful y observe and exactly carry out everythingthat the levitical priests direct you to do. You must keep and observe everything that I have commanded them.
9 Lembra-te do que o Senhor, teu Deus, fez a Maria, quando saíste do Egito.	9 Remember what Yahweh your God did to Miriam when you were on your way out of Egypt.
10 Se fizeres ao teu próximo um empréstimo qualquer, não entrarás em sua casa para tomar {algum} penhor.	10 'If you are making your brother a loan on pledge, you must not go into his house and seize thepledge, whatever it may be.
11 Esperarás fora; é ali que o teu devedor te trará esse penhor.	11 You must stay outside, and the man to whom you are making the loan must bring the pledge out toyou.
12 Se ele for pobre, o penhor não pernoitará em tua casa,	12 And if the man is poor, you must not go to bed with his pledge in your possession;
13 mas tornarás a dar-lho antes que o sol se ponha, a fim de que ele possa dormir com o seu manto e te abençoe, e isso te será contado como um benefício pelo Senhor, teu Deus.	13 you must return it to him at sunset so that he can sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it wil be anupright action on your part in God's view.
14 Não prejudicarás o assalariado pobre e necessitado, quer seja um de teus irmãos, quer seja um estrangeiro que mora numa das cidades de tua terra.	14 'You must not exploit a poor and needy wage-earner, be he one of your brothers or a foreignerresident in your community.
15 Dar-lhe-ás o seu salário no mesmo dia, antes do pôr-do-sol, porque é pobre e espera impacientemente a sua paga. Do contrário clamaria contra ti ao Senhor, e serias culpado de um pecado.	15 You must pay him his wages each day, not al owing the sun to set before you do, since he, beingpoor, needs them badly; otherwise he may appeal to Yahweh against you, and you would incur guilt.
16 Não morrerão os pais pelos filhos, nem os filhos pelos pais. Cada um morrerá pelo seu próprio pecado.	16 'Parents may not be put to death for their children, nor children for parents, but each must be put todeath for his own crime.
17 Não violarás o direito do estrangeiro nem do órfão, e não tomarás como penhor o vestido de uma viúva.	17 'You must not infringe the rights of the foreigner or the orphan; you must not take a widow's clothesin pledge.
18 Lembra-te de que foste escravo no Egito e de que o Senhor, teu Deus, te libertou. Por isso te dou esta ordem.	18 Remember that you were once a slave in Egypt and that Yahweh your God redeemed you from that.That is why I am giving you this order.
19 Quando segares a messe no teu campo e deixares por esquecimento algum feixe, não voltarás para levá-lo. Deixá-lo-ás para o estrangeiro, o órfão e a viúva, a fim de que o Senhor, teu Deus, abençoe todas as empresas de tuas mãos.	19 'If, when reaping the harvest in your field, you overlook a sheaf in that field, do not go back for it. Theforeigner, the orphan and the widow shal have it, so that Yahweh your God may bless you in al yourundertakings.
20 Quando sacudires tuas oliveiras, não voltarás a colher o resto que ficou nos galhos; isso será para o estrangeiro, o órfão e a viúva.	20 'When you beat your olive tree, you must not go over the branches twice. The foreigner, the orphanand the widow shall have the rest.
21 Quando tiveres vindimado a tua vinha, não voltarás a colher os cachos que ficaram; deixá-los-ás para o estrangeiro, o órfão e a viúva.	21 'When you harvest your vineyard, you must not pick it over a second time. The foreigner, the orphanand the widow shall have the rest.
22 Lembra-te de que foste escravo no Egito: eis por que te dou esta ordem.	22 'Remember that you were once a slave in Egypt. That is why I am giving you this order.'
