LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Alla vista delle folle Gesù salì sul monte e, come si fu seduto, si accostarono a lui i suoi discepoli.	1 Seeing the crowds, he went onto the mountain. And when he was seated his disciples came to him.
2 Allora aprì la sua bocca per ammaestrarli dicendo:	2 Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them:
3 "Beati i poveri di spirito, perché di essi è il regno dei cieli.	3 How blessed are the poor in spirit: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 Beati quelli che piangono, perché saranno consolati.	4 Blessed are the gentle: they shal have the earth as inheritance.
5 Beati i miti, perché erediteranno la terra.	5 Blessed are those who mourn: they shal be comforted.
6 Beati quelli che hanno fame e sete della giustizia, perché saranno saziati.	6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: they shal have their fil .
7 Beati i misericordiosi, perché troveranno misericordia.	7 Blessed are the merciful: they shal have mercy shown them.
8 Beati i puri di cuore, perché vedranno Dio.	8 Blessed are the pure in heart: they shal see God.
9 Beati gli operatori di pace, perché saranno chiamati figli di Dio.	9 Blessed are the peacemakers: they shal be recognised as children of God.
10 Beati i perseguitati a causa della giustizia, poiché di essi è il regno dei cieli.	10 Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of uprightness: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
11 Beati voi quando vi insulteranno e vi perseguiteranno e, mentendo, diranno contro di voi ogni sorta di male a causa mia,	11 'Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak al kinds of calumny againstyou falsely on my account.
12 rallegratevi ed esultate, poiché grande è la vostra ricompensa nei cieli. Così, del resto, perseguitarono i profeti che furono prima di voi".	12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this is how they persecuted the prophetsbefore you.
13 "Voi siete il sale della terra; ma se il sale diventa insipido, con che cosa si dovrà dare sapore ai cibi? A null'altro sarà più buono, se non ad essere gettato via e calpestato dalla gente.	13 'You are salt for the earth. But if salt loses its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good fornothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled under people's feet.
14 Voi siete la luce del mondo; una città posta su un monte non può restare nascosta.	14 'You are light for the world. A city built on a hil -top cannot be hidden.
15 Nemmeno si accende una lucerna per metterla sotto il moggio; la si pone invece sul candelabro affinché faccia luce a tutti quelli che sono nella casa.	15 No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone inthe house.
16 Risplenda così la vostra luce davanti agli uomini, affinché, vedendo le vostre buone opere, glorifichino il Padre vostro che è nei cieli".	16 In the same way your light must shine in people's sight, so that, seeing your good works, they maygive praise to your Father in heaven.
17 "Non crediate che io sia venuto ad abrogare la legge o i profeti; non sono venuto ad abrogare, ma a compiere.	17 'Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but tocomplete them.
18 In verità vi dico: finché non passino il cielo e la terra, non uno jota, non un apice cadrà dalla legge, prima che tutto accada.	18 In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, is to disappear fromthe Law until al its purpose is achieved.
19 Chi dunque scioglierà uno di questi precetti, anche minimi, e insegnerà agli uomini a fare altrettanto, sarà considerato minimo nel regno dei cieli; chi invece li metterà in pratica e insegnerà a fare lo stesso, questi sarà considerato grande nel regno dei cieli.	19 Therefore, anyone who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others todo the same wil be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teachesthem wil be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven.
20 Vi dico infatti che, se la vostra giustizia non sorpasserà quella degli scribi e farisei, non entrerete nel regno dei cieli".	20 'For I tell you, if your uprightness does not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you wil neverget into the kingdom of Heaven.
21 "Avete inteso che fu detto agli antichi: Non ucciderai; infatti chi uccide è sottoposto al giudizio.	21 'You have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You shal not kil ; and if anyone does kil he mustanswer for it before the court.
22 Io, invece, vi dico: chiunque s'adira con il suo fratello sarà sottoposto al giudizio. Chi dice al suo fratello: stupido, sarà sottoposto al sinedrio. Chi dice: pazzo, sarà sottoposto al fuoco della Geenna.	22 But I say this to you, anyone who is angry with a brother wil answer for it before the court; anyone whocal s a brother "Fool" wil answer for it before the Sanhedrin; and anyone who cal s him "Traitor" wil answer for it in hel fire.
23 Se dunque tu sei per deporre sull'altare la tua offerta e là ti ricordi che tuo fratello ha qualcosa a tuo carico,	23 So then, if you are bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother hassomething against you,
24 lascia la tua offerta davanti all'altare e va' prima a riconciliarti con tuo fratello; dopo verrai ad offrire il tuo dono.	24 leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first, and then comeback and present your offering.
25 Mettiti d'accordo con il tuo avversario subito, mentre sei per via con lui, affinché l'avversario non ti consegni al giudice, il giudice al carceriere e tu sia gettato in prigione.	25 Come to terms with your opponent in good time while you are stil on the way to the court with him, orhe may hand you over to the judge and the judge to the officer, and you wil be thrown into prison.
26 In verità ti dico: non ne uscirai, finché non avrai pagato fino all'ultimo quadrante".	26 In truth I tell you, you wil not get out til you have paid the last penny.
27 "Avete inteso che fu detto: Non farai adulterio.	27 'You have heard how it was said, You shall not commit adultery.
28 Io invece vi dico che chiunque guarda una donna per desiderarla, già ha commesso adulterio con essa nel suo cuore.	28 But I say this to you, if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her inhis heart.
29 Se il tuo occhio destro ti è motivo di inciampo, càvalo e gèttalo via da te; infatti è meglio per te che un tuo membro perisca, anziché tutto il tuo corpo venga gettato nella Geenna.	29 If your right eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away; for it wil do you less harm tolose one part of yourself than to have your whole body thrown into hell.
30 E se la tua mano destra ti è motivo d'inciampo, troncala e gettala via da te; infatti è meglio per te che un tuo membro perisca, anziché tutto il tuo corpo vada a finire nella Geenna".	30 And if your right hand should be your downfall, cut it off and throw it away; for it wil do you less harmto lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body go to hel .
31 "Fu detto inoltre: Chi lascia sua moglie, le dia il libello del ripudio.	31 'It has also been said, Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a writ of dismissal.
32 Io invece vi dico: chiunque ripudia sua moglie, all'infuori del caso di impudicizia, la espone all'adulterio; e se uno sposa una donna ripudiata, commette adulterio".	32 But I say this to you, everyone who divorces his wife, except for the case of an il icit marriage, makesher an adulteress; and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33 "Avete ancora inteso che fu detto agli antichi: Non spergiurerai, ma manterrai al Signore i tuoi giuramenti.	33 'Again, you have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You must not break your oath, but must fulfilyour oaths to the Lord.
34 Io invece vi dico di non giurare affatto: né per il cielo, che è il trono di Dio;	34 But I say this to you, do not swear at al , either by heaven, since that is God's throne;
35 né per la terra, che è lo sgabello dei suoi piedi; né per Gerusalemme, che è la città del gran Re.	35 or by earth, since that is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, since that is the city of the great King.
36 Neppure per la tua testa giurerai, poiché non hai il potere di far bianco o nero un solo capello.	36 Do not swear by your own head either, since you cannot turn a single hair white or black.
37 Sia il vostro linguaggio: sì, sì; no, no; il superfluo procede dal maligno".	37 All you need say is "Yes" if you mean yes, "No" if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the Evil One.
38 "Avete inteso che fu detto: Occhio per occhio e dente per dente.	38 'You have heard how it was said: Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.
39 Io invece vi dico di non resistere al male; anzi, se uno ti colpisce alla guancia destra, volgigli anche la sinistra.	39 But I say this to you: offer no resistance to the wicked. On the contrary, if anyone hits you on the rightcheek, offer him the other as wel ;
40 A uno che vuol trascinarti in giudizio per prendersi la tunica, dàgli anche il mantello;	40 if someone wishes to go to law with you to get your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
41 se uno ti vuol costringere per un miglio, va' con lui per due.	41 And if anyone requires you to go one mile, go two miles with him.
42 A chi ti chiede, da'; se uno ti chiede un prestito, non volgergli le spalle".	42 Give to anyone who asks you, and if anyone wants to borrow, do not turn away.
43 "Avete inteso che fu detto: Amerai il prossimo tuo e odierai il tuo nemico.	43 'You have heard how it was said, You wil love your neighbour and hate your enemy.
44 Io invece vi dico: amate i vostri nemici e pregate per quelli che vi perseguitano,	44 But I say this to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you;
45 affinché siate figli del Padre vostro che è nei cieli, il quale fa sorgere il suo sole sui cattivi come sui buoni e fa piovere sui giusti come sugli empi.	45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he causes his sun to rise on the bad as wellas the good, and sends down rain to fal on the upright and the wicked alike.
46 Qualora infatti amaste solo quelli che vi amano, che ricompensa avreste? Non fanno lo stesso anche i pubblicani?	46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even the tax col ectors do asmuch?
47 E se salutate soltanto i vostri fratelli, che cosa fate di speciale? Non fanno lo stesso anche i gentili?	47 And if you save your greetings for your brothers, are you doing anything exceptional?
48 Voi dunque sarete perfetti, come perfetto è il Padre vostro che è nei cieli".	48 Do not even the gentiles do as much? You must therefore be perfect, just as your heavenly Father isperfect.'
