LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Maria e Aronne parlarono contro Mosè a causa della donna etiope che aveva preso, poiché aveva sposato una donna etiope.	1 Miriam, and Aaron too, criticised Moses over the Cushite woman he had married. He had indeedmarried a Cushite woman.
2 Dissero: "Solo con Mosè ha dunque parlato il Signore? Non ha forse parlato anche con noi?". Il Signore sentì.	2 They said, 'Is Moses the only one through whom Yahweh has spoken? Has he not spoken through ustoo?' Yahweh heard this.
3 Or Mosè era l'uomo più umile di tutti gli uomini che sono sulla faccia della terra.	3 Now Moses was extremely humble, the humblest man on earth.
4 Il Signore disse subito a Mosè, Aronne e Maria: "Uscite tutti e tre verso la tenda del convegno". Uscirono tutti e tre.	4 Suddenly Yahweh said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, 'Come out, al three of you, to the Tent ofMeeting.' They went, al three of them,
5 Il Signore scese sulla colonna di nuvola e si tenne all'ingresso della tenda e chiamò Aronne e Maria: ambedue si fecero avanti.	5 and Yahweh descended in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the Tent. He cal ed Aaronand Miriam and they both came forward.
6 Il Signore disse: "Ascoltate bene la mia parola: se aveste un profeta del Signore, mi farei conoscere a lui in visione, parlerei a lui in sogno.	6 Yahweh said: Listen to my words! if there is a prophet among you, I reveal myself to him in a vision, I speak to him in a dream.
7 Ma non così con il mio servo Mosè: in tutta la mia casa, egli è il più fedele.	7 Not so with my servant Moses; to him my whole household is entrusted;
8 Parlo a lui a faccia a faccia, in visione e non in enigmi: egli contempla l'immagine del Signore. Perché dunque non avete temuto di parlare contro il mio servo Mosè?".	8 to him I speak face to face, plainly and not in riddles, and he sees Yahweh's form. How, then, couldyou dare to criticise my servant Moses?
9 L'ira del Signore divampò contro di loro ed egli se ne andò.	9 Yahweh's anger was aroused by them. He went away,
10 La nuvola si allontanò dalla tenda, ed ecco: Maria era diventata lebbrosa, bianca come la neve. Aronne si voltò verso Maria: ed ecco era lebbrosa.	10 and as soon as the cloud left the Tent, there was Miriam covered with a virulent skin-disease, whiteas snow! Aaron turned to look at her and saw that she had contracted a virulent skin-disease.
11 Aronne disse a Mosè: "Ahimè, mio signore, non porre su di noi la pena del peccato che abbiamo insensatamente commesso:	11 Aaron said to Moses: 'Oh, my Lord, please do not punish us for the sin we have been foolishenough to commit.
12 essa non sia come un morto all'uscita dal grembo di sua madre, per metà divorato nella sua carne".	12 Do not let her be like some monster with its flesh half eaten away when it leaves its mother's womb!'
13 Mosè gridò verso il Signore: "O Dio, te ne prego, guariscila!".	13 Moses pleaded with Yahweh. 'O God,' he said, 'I beg you, please heal her!'
14 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Se suo padre le sputasse in viso, non sarebbe forse nella vergogna per sette giorni? Sia isolata sette giorni fuori dell'accampamento, e dopo sia accolta".	14 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'If her father had done no more than spit in her face, would she not beunclean for seven days? Have her shut out of the camp for seven days, and then have her brought in again.'
15 Maria fu isolata fuori dell'accampamento sette giorni, e il popolo non partì fino a quando Maria non fu accolta.	15 Miriam was shut out of the camp for seven days. The people did not set out until she returned.
16 Dopo di che il popolo partì da Cazerot e posero l'accampamento nel deserto di Paran.	16 Then the people moved on from Hazeroth and pitched camp in the desert of Paran.
