Amos 2

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Così ha detto il Signore: Per tre prevaricazioni di Moab e per quattro non lo farò tornare: per aver egli incendiato e ridotto in calcina le ossa del re di Edom.	1 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Moab, I have made my decree and will notrelent: because they have burnt the bones of the king of Edom to ash,
2 Manderò fuoco in Moab e divorerà i palazzi di Keriòt. Morrà con fragore Moab, con grida di guerra, con squillo di tromba.	2 I shal send fire down into Moab to devour the palaces of Kerioth, and Moab will die in the tumult, amidwar cries and the blare of trumpets;
3 Sterminerò il giudice di dentro ad esso, e tutti i suoi prìncipi truciderò con lui. Ha detto il Signore.	3 I shal destroy the ruler there and slaughter al the chief men there with him, says Yahweh.
4 Così ha detto il Signore: Per tre prevaricazioni di Giuda e per quattro non lo farò tornare: per aver essi respinto la legge del Signore e non osservato i suoi decreti. Li hanno traviati le loro menzogne cui i padri loro andarono dietro.	4 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Judah, I have made my decree and wil notrelent: because they have despised Yahweh's law and not kept his commandments, since their Falsehoods,which their ancestors followed, have led them astray,
5 Manderò fuoco in Giuda e divorerà i palazzi di Gerusalemme.	5 I shal send fire down on Judah to devour the palaces of Jerusalem.
6 Così ha detto il Signore: Per tre prevaricazioni d'Israele e per quattro non lo farò tornare: per aver essi venduto per argento chi è giusto e chi è povero a conto di due sandali,	6 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Israel, I have made my decree and wil notrelent: because they have sold the upright for silver and the poor for a pair of sandals,
7 essi, che calpestano tra la polvere della terra la testa dei miseri e tagliano la via degli umili; e un uomo e il padre suo entrano da una stessa fanciulla allo scopo di profanare il nome mio santo;	7 because they have crushed the heads of the weak into the dust and thrust the rights of the oppressedto one side, father and son sleeping with the same girl and thus profaning my holy name,
8 su vesti pignorate si stendono accanto ad ogni altare e vino di multati sbevazzano nella casa del loro dio.	8 lying down beside every altar on clothes acquired as pledges, and drinking the wine of the people theyhave fined in the house of their god.
9 Eppure proprio io estirpai l'Amorreo davanti a loro, la cui altezza era come altezza di cedri ed era forte come le querce. Estirpai il suo frutto dal di sopra e le sue radici dal di sotto.	9 Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, he who was as tal as the cedars, as strong as theoaks; I who destroyed his fruit above ground and his roots below.
10 E proprio io vi feci salire dalla terra d'Egitto e vi condussi nel deserto per quarant'anni, perché ereditaste la terra dell'Amorreo.	10 It was I who brought you up from Egypt and for forty years led you through the desert to takepossession of the Amorite's country;
11 Suscitai profeti tra i vostri figli e nazirei tra i vostri adolescenti. Non è forse così, figli d'Israele? Oracolo del Signore.	11 I who raised up prophets from your sons and Nazirites from your young men. Israelites, is this nottrue? -declares Yahweh!
12 Abbeveraste i nazirei con vino, e ai profeti comandaste: Non profetate!	12 But you have made the Nazirite drink wine and given orders to the prophets, 'Do not prophesy.'
13 Ecco: io sto per affondare sotto di voi come affonda il carro quand'è stracarico di covoni.	13 Very wel ! Like a cart overloaded with sheaves I shall crush you where you stand;
14 Allora sarà impossibile la fuga per il corridore e il gagliardo non sarà sostenuto dal suo valore; l'eroe non scamperà l'anima sua	14 flight wil be cut off for the swift, the strong will have no chance to exert his strength nor the warrior beable to save his life;
15 e il virtuoso dell'arco non starà saldo; il corridore non scamperà, e il cavaliere non scamperà l'anima sua.	15 the archer wil not stand his ground, the swift of foot wil not escape, nor will the horseman save hislife;
16 Il più coraggioso tra gli eroi nudo fuggirà in quel giorno. Oracolo del Signore.	16 even the bravest of warriors will jettison his arms and run away, that day! -declares Yahweh!
