LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Quando divenne re, Ioas aveva sette anni.	1 Jehoash was seven years old when he came to the throne.
2 Egli incominciò a regnare nell'anno settimo di Ieu e regnò quarant'anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Sibia, da Bersabea.	2 Jehoash became king in the seventh year of Jehu, and reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. Hismother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
3 Ioas fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore per tutta la sua vita, perché il sacerdote Ioiada l'aveva istruito.	3 Al his life Jehoash did what Yahweh regards as right, having been instructed by Jehoiada the priest.
4 Soltanto non furono rimosse le alture, cosicché il popolo offriva sacrifici e bruciava aromi su di esse.	4 The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people stil offered sacrifices and incense onthe high places.
5 Ioas disse ai sacerdoti: "Tutto il denaro consacrato che viene portato al tempio del Signore, il denaro di chi diventa maggiorenne, il denaro fissato per il riscatto delle persone e tutto il denaro che ognuno desidera portare al tempio del Signore,	5 Jehoash said to the priests, 'Al the money from the sacred revenues brought to the Temple ofYahweh, the money from personal taxes, and al the money voluntarily offered to the Temple-
6 i sacerdoti lo prendano, ciascuno dal proprio conoscente, e riparino i danni del tempio dovunque si trovino".	6 the priests are to receive this individual y from people of their acquaintance and wil carry out al therepairs to the Temple which need to be made.'
7 Tuttavia nell'anno ventitreesimo del re Ioas i sacerdoti non avevano ancora riparato i danni del tempio.	7 Now in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash the priests had done no repairs to the Temple;
8 Allora il re Ioas convocò il sacerdote Ioiada e i sacerdoti e disse loro: "Perché non riparate i danni del tempio? D'ora innanzi non prenderete più il denaro dai vostri conoscenti, ma lo darete a me per i danni del tempio".	8 so King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests. 'Why are you not repairing theTemple?' he asked. 'You are no longer to accept money from people of your acquaintance but are to hand it overfor the Temple repairs.'
9 I sacerdoti acconsentirono a non ricevere più denaro dal popolo e a non riparare i danni del tempio.	9 The priests agreed to accept no money from the people and no longer to be responsible for repairs tothe Temple.
10 Il sacerdote Ioiada prese una cassa, praticò un foro nel coperchio e la collocò a fianco dell'altare, alla destra di chi entra nel tempio del Signore. I sacerdoti che custodivano l'ingresso vi ponevano dentro tutto il denaro portato nel tempio del Signore.	10 Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in the lid and placed it beside the pil ar, to the right ofthe entry to the Temple of Yahweh; in it the priests who guarded the threshold put al the money which was givenfor the Temple of Yahweh.
11 Quando essi vedevano che nella cassa c'era molto denaro, saliva lo scriba del re, assieme al gran sacerdote, si raccoglieva e si contava il denaro che si trovava nel tempio del Signore.	11 Whenever they saw that there was a great deal of money in the chest, the king's secretary wouldcome, and they would empty it out and reckon the money then in the Temple of Yahweh.
12 Controllato che avevano il denaro, lo consegnavano nelle mani dei capomastri addetti al tempio del Signore, i quali lo passavano ai carpentieri e agli operai che riparavano il tempio del Signore,	12 Once checked, they paid this money over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh,and these in turn spent it on carpenters and builders working on the Temple of Yahweh,
13 ai muratori, ai tagliapietre, per acquistare legname e pietre squadrate destinate a riparare i danni del tempio del Signore, e cioè per tutte le spese necessarie ai restauri del tempio.	13 on masons and stonecutters, and on buying timber and dressed stone to be used for repairs to theTemple of Yahweh; in short, for al the costs of the Temple repairs.
14 Con il denaro portato nel tempio del Signore non si facevano né bacini d'argento, né coltelli, né aspersori, né trombe, né alcun oggetto d'oro e d'argento,	14 But no silver basins, knives, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or gold or silver objects were made for theTemple of Yahweh out of the money presented,
15 bensì lo si dava agli esecutori dei lavori perché restaurassero il tempio del Signore.	15 which was al given to the masters of works for repairing the Temple of Yahweh.
16 Non si controllavano neppure le persone nelle cui mani era consegnato il denaro che doveva essere trasmesso agli esecutori dei lavori, perché essi agivano con onestà.	16 No accounts were kept with the men to whom the money was paid over to be spent on the workmen,since they were honest in their work.
17 Il denaro per il sacrificio di riparazione e quello per il sacrificio per il peccato non era destinato al tempio del Signore, bensì era riservato ai sacerdoti.	17 Money offered in expiation of an offence or of a sin was not given to the Temple of Yahweh; that wasfor the priests.
18 In quel tempo Cazaèl, re di Aram, salì per combattere contro Gat e la espugnò; poi si accinse a salire contro Gerusalemme.	18 At that time Hazael king of Aram went to war against Gath, and captured it; he then prepared to attackJerusalem.
19 Ma Ioas, re di Giuda, prese tutti i doni che i re di Giuda, suoi antenati, Giosafat, Ioram e Acazia avevano consacrato, i suoi sacri donativi e tutto l'oro ritrovato nei tesori del tempio del Signore e nel palazzo reale e lo inviò a Cazaèl, re di Aram. Questi allora si allontanò da Gerusalemme.	19 Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred offerings dedicated by his ancestors, the kings of Judah,Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah, with those which he himself had dedicated, and all the gold which was tobe found in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and of the palace; he sent it all to Hazael king of Aram, whoretired from Jerusalem.
20 Le altre gesta di Ioas e tutte le sue azioni non sono forse descritte nel libro degli Annali dei re di Giuda?	20 The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah?
21 I suoi ufficiali si sollevarono, ordirono una congiura e uccisero Ioas a Bet-Millo, dove egli era disceso.	21 His own retainers rebelled and hatched a plot; they murdered Joash in the palace of the Millo . . .
22 Iozacàr, figlio di Simeat, e Iozabàd, figlio di Somer, suoi ufficiali, lo colpirono ed egli morì. Lo seppellirono assieme ai suoi antenati nella Città di Davide e al suo posto regnò suo figlio Amazia.	22 Jozacar son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer were the retainers who struck the blows fromwhich he died. He was buried with his ancestors in the City of David; his son Amaziah succeeded him.
