LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dopo queste cose Davide sconfisse i Filistei e li umiliò, prendendo di mano ai Filistei Gat e le sue dipendenze.	1 After this, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them. From the grip of the Philistines he wrested. . .
2 Sconfisse pure i Moabiti, li misurò con la fune facendoli giacere a terra: ne misurò due funi da uccidere e un'altra fune completa da lasciare in vita. Così Moab diventò servo di Davide e pagò il tributo.	2 He also defeated the Moabites and, making them lie on the ground, measured them off by the line; hemeasured out two lines to be put to death and one ful line to have their lives spared. The Moabites becameDavid's subjects and paid him tribute.
3 Poi Davide sconfisse Adad-E'zer, figlio di Recòb, re di Zobà, quando andava a ristabilire il suo potere sul Fiume.	3 David defeated Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when the latter mounted an expedition toextend his power over the River.
4 Davide gli catturò mille e settecento cavalieri e ventimila fanti, tagliò i garretti a tutti i cavalli lasciandone solo cento capi.	4 David captured one thousand seven hundred charioteers and twenty thousand foot soldiers from him;David hamstrung all the chariot teams, keeping only a hundred of them.
5 Allora Aram di Damasco corse in aiuto di Adad-E'zer, re di Zobà, ma Davide uccise ventiduemila uomini di Aram.	5 The Aramaeans of Damascus came to the help of Hadadezer king of Zobah, but David kil ed twenty-two thousand of the Aramaeans.
6 Davide pose prefetti in Aram di Damasco e Aram diventò servo di Davide e pagò il tributo. Così il Signore diede a Davide la vittoria dovunque andò.	6 David then imposed governors on Aram of Damascus, and the Aramaeans became David's subjectsand paid him tribute. Wherever David went, Yahweh gave him victory.
7 Davide prese gli scudi d'oro che appartenevano ai servi di Adad-E'zer e li portò a Gerusalemme.	7 David took the golden shields carried by Hadadezer's guards and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 Inoltre da Bètach e da Berotài, città di Adad-E'zer, il re Davide portò via moltissimo bronzo.	8 From Betah and Berothai, towns belonging to Hadadezer, King David captured a great quantity ofbronze.
9 Quando Toù, re di Camat, udì che Davide aveva sconfitto tutte le forze di Adad-E'zer,	9 When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated Hadadezer's entire army,
10 mandò suo figlio Adduràm dal re Davide a porgere saluti e benedizione per aver combattuto contro Adad-E'zer e averlo sconfitto. Adad-E'zer infatti era stato più volte in guerra con Toù. Adduràm portò con sé oggetti d'argento, d'oro e di bronzo.	10 he sent his son Hadoram to King David to greet him and to congratulate him on having made war onHadadezer and on having defeated him, since Hadadezer was at war with Tou. Hadoram brought with himobjects made of silver, gold and bronze,
11 Il re Davide consacrò anche questi al Signore, insieme con tutto l'argento e l'oro che aveva consacrato, proveniente da tutti i popoli che aveva soggiogato:	11 which King David also consecrated to Yahweh, as he had already consecrated the silver and goldtaken from al the nations which he had subjugated-
12 da Aram, da Moab, dagli Ammoniti, dai Filistei, da Amalek e dal bottino di Adad-E'zer, figlio di Recòb, re di Zobà.	12 from Aram, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines and Amalek; and from the spoil of Hadadezer son ofRehob, king of Zobah.
13 Davide si fece un nome al suo ritorno sconfiggendo diciottomila Idumei nella Valle del Sale.	13 David became famous when he came home from defeating the Edomites in the Valley of Salt --eighteen thousand of them.
14 Pose prefetti in Edom: in tutta la regione pose dei prefetti; e l'intero Edom diventò servo di Davide. Così il Signore diede a Davide la vittoria dovunque andò.	14 He imposed governors on Edom and all the Edomites became David's subjects. Wherever Davidwent, Yahweh gave him victory.
15 Davide fu re su tutto Israele e amministrò rettamente la giustizia a tutto il suo popolo.	15 David ruled over al Israel, administering law and justice to al his people.
16 Ioab, figlio di Zeruià, era capo dell'esercito; Giosafat, figlio di Achilùd, segretario;	16 Joab son of Zeruiah was in command of the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was herald;
17 Zadòk, figlio di Achitùb, ed Ebiatàr, figlio di Achimelech, erano sacerdoti; Seraià scriba;	17 Zadok and Abiathar son of Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, were priests; Seraiah was secretary;
18 Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, capo dei Cretei e dei Peletei; e i figli di Davide erano ministri.	18 Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in command of the Cherethites and Pelethites; David's sons werepriests.
