Luke 18

1 And he told them a parable, to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.	1 Después le enseñó con una parábola que era necesario orar siempre sin desanimarse:
2 He said, "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man;	2 «En una ciudad había un juez que no temía a Dios ni le importaban los hombres;
3 and there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Vindicate me against my adversary.'	3 y en la misma ciudad vivía una viuda que recurría a él, diciéndole: "Te ruego que me hagas justicia contra mi adversario".
4 For a while he refused; but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God nor regard man,	4 Durante mucho tiempo el juez se negó, pero después dijo: "Yo no temo a Dios ni me importan los hombres,
5 yet because this widow bothers me, I will vindicate her, or she will wear me out by her continual coming.'"	5 pero como esta viuda me molesta, le haré justicia para que no venga continuamente a fastidiarme".»
6 And the Lord said, "Hear what the unrighteous judge says.	6 Y el Señor dijo: «Oigan lo que dijo este juez injusto.
7 And will not God vindicate his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?	7 Y Dios, ¿no hará justicia a sus elegidos, que claman a él día y noche, aunque los haga esperar?
8 I tell you, he will vindicate them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?"	8 Les aseguro que en un abrir y cerrar de ojos les hará justicia. Pero cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, ¿encontrará fe sobre la tierra?».
9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others:	9 Y refiriéndose a algunos que se tenían por justos y despreciaban a los demás, dijo también esta parábola:
10 "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.	10 «Dos hombres subieron al Templo para orar; uno era fariseo y el otro, publicano.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank thee that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.	11 El fariseo, de pie, oraba así: "Dios mío, te doy gracias porque no soy como los demás hombres, que son ladrones, injustos y adúlteros; ni tampoco como ese publicano.
12 I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.'	12 Ayuno dos veces por semana y pago la décima parte de todas mis entradas".
13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!'	13 En cambio el publicano, manteniéndose a distancia, no se animaba siquiera a levantar los ojos al cielo, sino que se golpeaba el pecho, diciendo: "¡Dios mío, ten piedad de mí, que soy un pecador!".
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."	14 Les aseguro que este último volvió a su casa justificado, pero no el primero. Porque todo el que se ensalza será humillado y el que se humilla será ensalzado».
15 Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.	15 También le presentaban a los niños pequeños, para que los tocara; pero, al ver esto, los discípulos los reprendían.
16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God.	16 Entonces Jesús los hizo llamar y dijo: «Dejen que los niños se acerquen a mí y no se lo impidan, porque el Reino de Dios pertenece a los que son como ellos.
17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it."	17 Les aseguro que el que no recibe el Reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él».
18 And a ruler asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"	18 Un hombre importante le preguntó: «Maestro bueno, ¿qué debo hacer para heredar la Vida eterna?».
19 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.	19 Jesús le dijo: ¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Sólo Dios es bueno.
20 You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.'"	20 Tú conoces los mandamientos: No cometerás adulterio, no matarás, no robarás, no darás falso testimonio, honra a tu padre y a tu madre».
21 And he said, "All these I have observed from my youth."	21 El hombre le respondió: «Todo esto lo he cumplido desde mi juventud».
22 And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."	22 Al oírlo, Jesús le dijo: «Una cosa te falta todavía: vende todo lo que tienes y distribúyelo entre los pobres, y tendrás un tesoro en el cielo. Después ven y sígueme».
23 But when he heard this he became sad, for he was very rich.	23 Al oír estas palabras, el hombre se entristeció, porque era muy rico.
24 Jesus looking at him said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!	24 Viéndolo así, Jesús dijo: «¡Qué difícil será para los ricos entrar en el Reino de Dios!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."	25 Sí, es más fácil que un camello pase por el ojo de una aguja, que un rico entre en el Reino de Dios».
26 Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?"	26 Los que escuchaban dijeron: «Pero entonces, ¿quién podrá salvarse?».
27 But he said, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."	27 Jesús respondió: «Lo que es imposible para los hombres, es posible para Dios».
28 And Peter said, "Lo, we have left our homes and followed you."	28 Pedro le dijo: «Nosotros hemos dejado todo lo que teníamos y te hemos seguido».
29 And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there is no man who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,	29 Jesús respondió: «Les aseguro que el que haya dejado casa, mujer, hermanos, padres o hijos, por el Reino de Dios,
30 who will not receive manifold more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life."	30 recibirá mucho más en ese mundo; y en el mundo futuro, recibirá la Vida eterna».
31 And taking the twelve, he said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written of the Son of man by the prophets will be accomplished.	31 Después, Jesús llevó aparte a los Doce y les dijo: «Ahora subimos a Jerusalén, donde se cumplirá todo lo que anunciaron los profetas sobre el Hijo del hombre.
32 For he will be delivered to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon;	32 Será entregado a los paganos, se burlarán de él, lo insultarán, lo escupirán
33 they will scourge him and kill him, and on the third day he will rise."	33 y, después de azotarlo, lo matarán. Pero al tercer día resucitará».
34 But they understood none of these things; this saying was hid from them, and they did not grasp what was said.	34 Ellos no comprendieron nada de todo esto; les resultaba oscuro y no captaban el sentido de estas palabras.
35 As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging	35 Cuando se acercaba a Jericó, un ciego estaba sentado al borde del camino, pidiendo limosna.
36 and hearing a multitude going by, he inquired what this meant.	36 Al oír que pasaba mucha gente, preguntó qué sucedía.
37 They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by."	37 Le respondieron que pasaba Jesús de Nazaret.
38 And he cried, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"	38 El ciego se puso a gritar: «¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!».
39 And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"	39 Los que iban delante lo reprendían para que se callara, pero él gritaba más fuerte: «¡Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!».
40 And Jesus stopped, and commanded him to be brought to him; and when he came near, he asked him,	40 Jesús se detuvo y mandó que se lo trajeran. Cuando lo tuvo a su lado, le preguntó:
41 "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, let me receive my sight."	41 ¿Qué quieres que haga por ti?». «Señor, que yo vea otra vez».
42 And Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well."	42 Y Jesús le dijo: «Recupera la vista, tu fe te ha salvado».
43 And immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.	43 En el mismo momento, el ciego recuperó la vista y siguió a Jesús, glorificando a Dios. Al ver esto, todo el pueblo alababa a Dios.
