Sirach 50

1 The leader of his brethren and the pride of his people was Simon the high priest, son of Onias, who in his life repaired the house, and in his time fortified the temple.	1 Simón, hijo de Onías, fue el sumo sacerdote que en su vida reparó la Casa, y en sus días fortificó el santuario.
2 He laid the foundations for the high double walls, the high retaining walls for the temple enclosure.	2 El echó los cimientos de la altura doble, del alto contrafuerte de la cerca del Templo.
3 In his days a cistern for water was quarried out, a reservoir like the sea in circumference.	3 En sus días fue excavado el depósito de agua, un estanque como el mar de ancho.
4 He considered how to save his people from ruin, and fortified the city to withstand a seige.	4 El cuidó de su pueblo para evitar su ruina y fortificó la ciudad contra el asedio.
5 How glorious he was when the people gathered round him as he came out of the inner sanctuary!	5 ¡Que glorioso era, rodeado de su pueblo, cuando salía de la casa del velo!
6 Like the morning star among the clouds, like the moon when it is full;	6 Como el lucero del alba en medio de las nubes, como la luna llena,
7 like the sun shining upon the temple of the Most High, and like the rainbow gleaming in glorious clouds;	7 como el sol que brilla sobre el Templo del Altísimo, como el arco iris que ilumina las nubes de gloria,
8 like roses in the days of the first fruits, like lilies by a spring of water, like a green shoot on Lebanon on a summer day;	8 como flor del rosal en primavera, como lirio junto a un manantial, como brote del Líbano en verano,
9 like fire and incense in the censer, like a vessel of hammered gold adorned with all kinds of precious stones;	9 como fuego e incienso en el incensario, como vaso de oro macizo adornado de toda clase de piedras preciosas,
10 like an olive tree putting forth its fruit, and like a cypress towering in the clouds.	10 como olivo floreciente de frutos, como ciprés que se eleva hasta las nubes.
11 When he put on his glorious robe and clothed himself with superb perfection and went up to the holy altar, he made the court of the sanctuary glorious.	11 Cuando se ponía la vestidura de gala y se vestía sus elegantes ornamentos, al subir al santo altar, llenaba de gloria el recinto del santuario.
12 And when he received the portions from the hands of the priests, as he stood by the hearth of the altar with a garland of brethren around him, he was like a young cedar on Lebanon; and they surrounded him like the trunks of palm trees,	12 Y cuando recibía las porciones de manos de los sacerdotes, él mismo de pie junto al hogar del altar, y en torno a él la corona de sus hermanos, como brotes de cedros en el Líbano; le rodeaban como tallos de palmera
13 all the sons of Aaron in their splendor with the Lord's offering in their hands, before the whole congregation of Israel.	13 todos los hijos de Aarón en su esplendor, con la ofrenda del Señor en sus manos, en presencia de toda la asamblea de Israel.
14 Finishing the service at the altars, and arranging the offering to the Most High, the Almighty,	14 Y cuando cumplía el ministerio de los altares ordenando la ofrenda del Altísimo Todopoderoso,
15 he reached out his hand to the cup and poured a libation of the blood of the grape; he poured it out at the foot of the altar, a pleasing odor to the Most High, the King of all.	15 alargaba su mano a la copa, hacía la libación del jugo de racimo, y lo derramaba al pie del altar, como calmante aroma al Altísimo Rey universal.
16 Then the sons of Aaron shouted, they sounded the trumpets of hammered work, they made a great noise to be heard for remembrance before the Most High.	16 Entonces prorrumpían en gritos los hijos de Aarón, tocaban con sus trompetas de metal batido, hacían oír su sonido imponente, como memorial delante del Altísimo.
17 Then all the people together made haste and fell to the ground upon their faces to worship their Lord, the Almighty, God Most High.	17 Todo el pueblo entonces de repente, en masa, caía rostro en tierra, para adorar a su Señor, al Todopoderoso, Dios Altísimo.
18 And the singers praised him with their voices in sweet and full-toned melody.	18 Y los salmistas también le alababan con sus voces, el son vibrante formaba una dulce melodía.
19 And the people besought the Lord Most High in prayer before him who is merciful, till the order of worship of the Lord was ended; so they completed his service.	19 Y suplicaba el pueblo al Señor Altísimo, orando ante el Misericordioso, hasta que terminaba la ceremonia del Señor y concluía su liturgia.
20 Then Simon came down, and lifted up his hands over the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, to pronounce the blessing of the Lord with his lips, and to glory in his name;	20 Entonces bajaba y elevaba sus manos sobre toda la asamblea de los hijos de Israel, para dar con sus labios la bendición del Señor y tener el honor de pronunciar su nombre.
21 and they bowed down in worship a second time, to receive the blessing from the Most High.	21 Y por segunda vez todos se postraban para recibir la bendición del Altísimo.
22 And now bless the God of all, who in every way does great things; who exalts our days from birth, and deals with us according to his mercy.	22 Y ahora bendecid al Dios del universo, el que por todas partes hace grandes cosas, el que exaltó nuestros días desde el seno materno, y que nos trata según su misericordia.
23 May he give us gladness of heart, and grant that peace may be in our days in Israel, as in the days of old.	23 Que nos dé contento de corazón, y que haya paz en nuestros días en Israel por los siglos de los siglos.
24 May he entrust to us his mercy! And let him deliver us in our days!	24 Que su misericordia sea fiel con nosotros y en nuestros días nos rescate.
25 With two nations my soul is vexed, and the third is no nation:	25 Hay dos naciones que mi alma detesta, y la tercera ni siquiera es nación:
26 Those who live on Mount Seir, and the Philistines, and the foolish people that dwell in Shechem.	26 los habitantes de la montaña de Seír, los filisteos y el pueblo necio que mora en Siquem.
27 Instruction in understanding and knowledge I have written in this book, Jesus the son of Sirach, son of Eleazar, of Jerusalem, who out of his heart poured forth wisdom.	27 Instrucción de inteligencia y ciencia ha grabado en este libro Jesús, hijo de Sirá, Eleazar, de Jerusalén, que vertió de su corazón sabiduría a raudales.
28 Blessed is he who concerns himself with these things, and he who lays them to heart will become wise.	28 Feliz quien repase esto a menudo; el que lo ponga en su corazón se hará sabio.
29 For if he does them, he will be strong for all things, for the light of the Lord is his path.	29 Y si lo practica, para todo será fuerte, porque la huella que sigue es la luz del Señor.
