Proverbs 8

1 Does not wisdom call, does not understanding raise her voice?	1 Qui appelle? n’est-ce pas la Sagesse? Cette voix, n’est-ce pas l’Intelligence?
2 On the heights beside the way, in the paths she takes her stand;	2 Elle s’est postée sur la hauteur, au bord de la route, au carrefour des chemins.
3 beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:	3 La voici qui appelle, juste aux portes de la ville, aux entrées les plus fréquentées:
4 "To you, O men, I call, and my cry is to the sons of men.	4 “C’est à vous, les humains, que je m’adresse, je lance un appel aux fils d’Adam!
5 O simple ones, learn prudence; O foolish men, pay attention.	5 Apprenez à juger, vous qui ne savez pas, et vous qui ne pensez à rien, devenez réfléchis!
6 Hear, for I will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right;	6 Écoutez-moi, je dirai l’essentiel, rien ne sort de mes lèvres qui ne soit exact.
7 for my mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips.	7 C’est la vérité qui tombe de ma bouche, car je déteste les discours hypocrites.
8 All the words of my mouth are righteous; there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.	8 Toutes mes paroles sont sincères, pas une qui soit douteuse ou falsifiée.
9 They are all straight to him who understands and right to those who find knowledge.	9 Toutes sont exactes: un esprit ouvert s’en rend compte; elles sont justes: on le voit avec un peu de savoir.
10 Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold;	10 Faites vôtre ma discipline, plutôt que l’argent, choisissez la science et non pas l’or fin.
11 for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.	11 La sagesse est plus utile que les perles, quel trésor pourrait l’égaler?
12 I, wisdom, dwell in prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion.	12 Moi, la Sagesse, j’habite avec l’art de juger, l’action réfléchie me compte entre ses amies.
13 The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.	13 (Détester le mal, c’est craindre Yahvé). Je déteste l’orgueil et l’arrogance, les chemins qui mènent au mal et l’hypocrisie.
14 I have counsel and sound wisdom, I have insight, I have strength.	14 Mais chez moi l’on trouve bon sens et savoir-faire, l’intelligence ainsi que la puissance.
15 By me kings reign, and rulers decree what is just;	15 Par moi règnent les rois, et leurs ministres décident avec justice;
16 by me princes rule, and nobles govern the earth.	16 grâce à moi se maintiennent les princes, et les grands, et ceux qui gouvernent la terre.
17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.	17 J’aime ceux qui m’aiment, ceux qui me cherchent me rencontrent.
18 Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and prosperity.	18 Ils trouvent avec moi honneur et richesse, fortune durable et prospérité.
19 My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold, and my yield than choice silver.	19 Mes fruits sont meilleurs que l’or fin, ce que j’apporte vaut bien plus que l’argent.
20 I walk in the way of righteousness, in the paths of justice,	20 Je fais route sur un chemin de droiture, d’où partent en tout sens les sentiers de la justice;
21 endowing with wealth those who love me, and filling their treasuries.	21 je vais, comblant de biens ceux qui m’aiment, et je fais pour eux le plein de leurs réserves.
22 The LORD created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old.	22 Yahvé m’a créée, - ce fut le début de son œuvre - avant toutes ses créatures, depuis toujours.
23 Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth.	23 Avant les siècles je fus formée, dès le commencement, bien avant la terre.
24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water.	24 Les océans n’étaient pas là quand je suis née, pas une des fontaines d’où jaillissent les mers.
25 Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth;	25 Les montagnes n’étaient pas apparues, pas de collines encore quand je fus enfantée,
26 before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world.	26 Yahvé n’avait pas fait la terre et la campagne, ni même la poussière primitive du monde.
27 When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,	27 J’étais là quand il mit les cieux en place, quand il traça sur l’océan le cercle des terres,
28 when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep,	28 quand il mit d’office les nuées dans les hauteurs et régla au fond des mers le débit de leurs eaux,
29 when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth,	29 quand il imposa à la mer ses frontières, une limite que ne franchiraient pas les flots. Alors qu’il posait les fondements de la terre,
30 then I was beside him, like a master workman; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always,	30 j’étais à ses côtés comme une enfant. J’étais, jour après jour, tout son plaisir, et sans cesse je jouais en sa présence.
31 rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the sons of men.	31 Je joue sur ce monde, sur la terre qu’il a faite, et mon grand plaisir, c’est d’être chez les fils d’Adam.
32 And now, my sons, listen to me: happy are those who keep my ways.	32 Vous donc, mes fils, écoutez-moi: heureux ceux qui suivent mes chemins!
33 Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it.	33 Accueillez ma discipline et devenez des sages, ne la méprisez pas!
34 Happy is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors.	34 Heureux celui qui m’écoute, qui chaque jour veille à ma porte et reste sur le seuil, en éveil.
35 For he who finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD;	35 Car celui qui me trouve a trouvé la vie, les faveurs de Yahvé viendront sur lui;
36 but he who misses me injures himself; all who hate me love death."	36 mais celui qui m’offense attente à sa vie, tous ceux qui me haïssent ont choisi la mort.”
