1 - Chi vuol vendicarsi proverà la vendetta del Signore: dei suoi peccati e' terrà strettissimo conto.	1 The vengeful will suffer the LORD'S vengeance, for he remembers their sins in detail.
2 Condona al prossimo tuo il torto che t'ha fatto, e allora, quando tu pregherai, ti saran rimessi i peccati.	2 Forgive your neighbor's injustice; then when you pray, your own sins will be forgiven.
3 Un uomo conserva rancore contro un uomo, e invoca da Dio salute?	3 Should a man nourish anger against his fellows and expect healing from the LORD?
4 Verso un uomo, suo slmile, non ha pietà, e implora per i propri peccati?	4 Should a man refuse mercy to his fellows, yet seek pardon for his own sins?
5 Egli, che pure è carne, conserva il rancore, e chiede a Dio propiziazione? Chi espierà i peccati di lui?	5 If he who is but flesh cherishes wrath, who will forgive his sins?
6 Pensa alla fine, e cessa dall'odiare,	6 Remember your last days, set enmity aside; remember death and decay, and cease from sin!
7 perchè la corruzione e la morte [ti] sovrastano ne' suoi comandamenti.	7 Think of the commandments, hate not your neighbor; of the Most High's covenant, and overlook faults.
8 Pensa al timor di Dio e non corrucciarti col prossimo;	8 Avoid strife and your sins will be fewer, for a quarrelsome man kindles disputes,
9 pensa all'alleanza dell'Altissimo e passa sopra all'offesa del prossimo.	9 Commits the sin of disrupting friendship and sows discord among those at peace.
10 Tienti lontano dal questionare e diminuirai i peccati,	10 The more wood, the greater the fire, the more underlying it, the fiercer the fight; The greater a man's strength, the sterner his anger, the greater his power, the greater his wrath.
11 perchè l'uomo iracondo accende le questioni, e il peccatore scompiglia gli amici, e tra quelli che vivono in pace insinua l'inimicizia.	11 Pitch and resin make fires flare up, and insistent quarrels provoke bloodshed.
12 In proporzione delle legna divampa il fuoco, [e a seconda della violenza del contendere la questione s'infiamma]. In proporzione della potenza d'un uomo sarà l'ira sua, e a seconda delle sue ricchezze e' fa salire il suo sdegno.	12 If you blow upon a spark, it quickens into flame, if you spit on it, it dies out; yet both you do with your mouth!
13 Una precipitata contesa accende il fuoco, e una questione precipitosa fa spargere il sangue: e la lingua che attesta [il falso] arreca morte.	13 Cursed be gossips and the double-tongued, for they destroy the peace of many.
14 Se soffi sulla scintilla, divamperà a mo'di fuoco; se ci sputi su, si spengerà: e l'una e l'altra cosa vien dalla [tua] bocca.	14 A meddlesome tongue subverts many, and makes them refugees among the peoples; It destroys walled cities, and overthrows powerful dynasties.
15 Il mormoratore e l'uomo bilingue [sia da te] maledetto: molti invero ha mandati in malora che vivevano in pace.	15 A meddlesome tongue can drive virtuous women from their homes and rob them of the fruit of their toil;
16 La lingua d'un terzo sconvolse molti, e li mandò raminghi da un popolo all'altro.	16 Whoever heeds it has no rest, nor can he dwell in peace.
17 Distrusse città fortificate, e case di grandi atterrò.	17 A blow from a whip raises a welt, but a blow from the tongue smashes bones;
18 Abbattè eserciti di popoli, e potenti nazioni dissipò.	18 Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, but not as many as by the tongue.
19 La lingua d'un terzo cacciò [di casa] donne virili, e le privò del frutto delle loro fatiche.	19 Happy he who is sheltered from it, and has not endured its wrath; Who has not borne its yoke nor been fettered with its chain;
20 Chi a quella dà retta, non avrà requie, e non avrà un amico su cui riposare.	20 For its yoke is a yoke of iron and its chains are chains of bronze!
21 Un colpo di sferza fa un livido; ma un colpo di lingua stritola le ossa.	21 Dire is the death it inflicts, besides which even the nether world is a gain;
22 Molti caddero per il filo della spada, ma non tanti, quanti perirono per via della lingua.	22 It will not take hold among the just nor scorch them in its flame,
23 Beato chi è al riparo da una lingua maligna, chi non cade sotto il suo furore, chi non trascina il suo giogo, e ne' suoi ceppi non è incatenato.	23 But those who forsake the LORD will fall victims to it, as it burns among them unquenchably! It will hurl itself against them like a lion; like a panther, it will tear them to pieces.
24 Perchè il suo giogo è giogo di ferro, e le sue catene son catene di bronzo.	24 As you hedge round your vineyard with thorns, set barred doors over your mouth;
25 La morte ch'essa dà, è morte tristissima, meglio di essa è [scendere negli] Inferi.	25 As you seal up your silver and gold, so balance and weigh your words.
26 La sua persistenza non durerà a lungo, ma dominerà le vie degli ingiusti. E con la sua fiamma non abbrucerà i giusti.	26 Take care not to slip by your tongue and fall victim to your foe waiting in ambush.
27 Quei che abbandonano il Signore cadranno in [potere di] essa, e divamperà in loro e non si spengerà. E si spingerà addosso a loro come un leone, e come una pantera gli sbranerà.
28 Fa' una siepe di spine alle tue orecchie e non ascoltare una lingua maligna, e alla tua bocca metti porte e chiavistelli.
29 Il tuo oro e il tuo argento raduna in [forziere sicuro], e per le tue parole fatti una bilancia [e de' pesi] e opportuni freni [e chiavistelli] per la tua bocca.
30 E bada di non sdrucciolar per causa della lingua, e cadere alla presenza de' tuoi nemici che stanno in agguato, sicché la tua caduta sia insanabile e mortale!
