1 - Atalia, madre di Ocozia, vedendo che il figliuol suo era morto, si levò e fece morire tutti i discendenti del re.	1 And Athalia the mother of Ochozias seeing that her son was dead, arose, and slew all the royal seed.
2 Ma Josaba, figlia del re Joram, sorella di Ocozia, preso Joas, figlio di Ocozia, lo trafugò dal mezzo dei figli del re, mentre erano messi a morte e lo pose colla sua nutrice in una stanza e lo nascose ad Atalia, perchè non fosse ucciso.	2 But Josaba the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ochozias, took Joas the son of Ochozias, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, out of the bedchamber with his nurse: and hid him from the face of Athalia, so that he was not slain.
3 Restò con essa nascosto per sei anni nella casa del Signore. Frattanto Atalia regnava nel paese.	3 And he was with her six years hid in the house of the Lord. And Athalia reigned over the land.
4 Nell'anno settimo però Joiada mandò a cercare i centurioni e i soldati e li introdusse nel tempio del Signore; fece con essi alleanza e li fece giurare nella casa del Signore, mostrando ad essi il figlio del re,	4 And in the seventh year Joiada seat, and taking the centurions and the soldiers, brought them in to him into the temple of the Lord, and made a covenant with them: and taking an oath of them in the house of the Lord, shewed them the king's son:
5 e comandò loro, dicendo: «Ecco ciò che voi dovete fare.	5 And he commanded them, saying: This is the thing that you must do:
6 Una terza parte di voi entri in giorno di sabato per montare la guardia alla casa del re; una terza parte stia alla porta di Sur e una terza parte alla porta che è dietro all'abitazione delle guardie; e voi farete la guardia alla casa di Messa.	6 Let a third part of you go in on the sabbath, and keep the watch of the king's house. And let a third part be at the gate of Sur: and let a third part be at the gate behind the dwelling of the shieldbearers: and you shall keep the watch of the house of Messa.
7 Due parti poi di voi, tutti quelli che al sabato lasciano il servizio, staranno di guardia alla casa del Signore intorno al re;	7 But let two parts of you, all that go forth on the sabbath, keep the watch of the house of the Lord about the king.
8 e lo circonderete colle armi alla mano. Che se alcuno entrerà nel recinto del tempio, lo ucciderete; e starete sempre col re sia che entri, sia che esca».	8 And you shall compass him round about, having weapons in your hands: and if any man shall enter the precinct of the temple, let him be slain: and you shall be with the king coming in and going out.
9 I centurioni fecero quanto era stato loro prescritto dal sacerdote Joiada, e prendendo ognuno i suoi uomini e quelli che lasciavano il servizio il giorno di sabato, e quelli che lo assumevano, vennero dal sacerdote Joiada,	9 And the centurions did according to all things that Joiada the priest had commanded them: and taking every one their men, that went in on the sabbath, with them that went out on the sabbath, came to Joiada the priest.
10 che diede ad essi le lance e le armi del re Davide, che erano nella casa del Signore	10 And he gave them the spears, and the arms of king David, which were in the house of the Lord.
11 e ciascuno colle armi alla mano si pose dalla parte destra del tempio, fino alla parte sinistra dell'altare e del tempio intorno al re.	11 And they stood having every one their weapons in their hands, from the right side of the temple, unto the left side of the altar, and of the temple, about the king.
12 Il sacerdote condusse fuori il figlio del re, gli pose in capo il diadema e la legge; lo proclamarono e lo unsero re; e tutti fra i battimani, esclamarono: «Viva il re!».	12 And he brought forth the king's son, and put the diadem upon him, and the testimony: and they made him king, and anointed him: and clapping their hands. they said, God save the king.
13 Atalia, intesa la voce del popolo, che accorreva, si portò fra la moltitudine, che era nel tempio del Signore,	13 And Athalia heard the noise of the people running: and going in to the people into the temple of the Lord,
14 e avendo veduto il re, che stava sopra un trono, secondo l'uso, e a lui vicini i cantori, i sonatori di tromba e tutto il popolo, che faceva festa e sonava le trombe, si stracciò le vesti e gridò: «Congiura, congiura!».	14 She saw the king standing upon a tribunal, as the manner was, and the singers, and the trumpets near him, and all the people of the land rejoicing, and sounding the trumpets: and she rent her garments, and cried: A conspiracy, a conspiracy.
15 Joiada allora diede ai centurioni, che comandavano l'armata, questo ordine: «Conducetela fuori del recinto del tempio e se alcuno la segue, uccidetelo». Il sacerdote infatti avea detto: «Non si uccida nel tempio del Signore».	15 But Joiada commended the centurions that were over the army, and said to them: Have her forth without the precinct of the temple, and whosoever shall follow her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest had said: Let her not be slain in the temple of the Lord.
16 Le misero quindi addosso le mani e la spinsero verso la via della porta dei cavalli, accanto alla reggia e colà fu uccisa.	16 And they laid hands on her: and thrust her out by the way by which the horses go in, by the palace, and she was slain there.
17 Joiada stabilì adunque l'alleanza tra il Signore, il re e il popolo, perchè il popolo fosse del Signore; e [stabilì ancora l'alleanza] tra il re e il popolo.	17 And Joiada made a covenant between the Lord, and the king, and the people, that they should be the people of the Lord, and between the king and the people.
18 Poi tutto il popolo del paese entrò nel tempio di Baal e ne distrusse gli altari e ne infranse le immagini, uccidendo altresì Matan, sacerdote di Baal dinanzi all'altare. Il sacerdote Joiada mise delle sentinelle nella casa del Signore;	18 And all the people of the land went into the temple of Baal, and broke down his altars, and his images they broke in pieces thoroughly: they slew also Mathan the priest of Baal before the altar. And the priest set guards in the house of the Lord.
19 poi prese i centurioni e le legioni dei Ceretei, e dei Feletei e tutto il popolo del paese e condusse il re dalla casa del Signore per la via della porta delle guardie del palazzo e lo fece sedere sul trono regale.	19 And he took the centurions, and the bands of the Cerethi and the Phelethi, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king from the house of the Lord: and they came by the way of the gate of the shieldbearers into the palace. and he sat on the throne of the kings.
20 Tutto il popolo esultò; e la città fu tranquilla. Atalia poi perì di spada nella casa del re.	20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet: but Athalia was slain with the sword in the king's house.
21 Joas aveva sette anni quando cominciò a regnare.	21 Now Joas was seven years old, when he began to reign.
