Joshua 5

1 Therefore, after all the kings of the Amorites, who were living across the Jordan toward the western region, and all the kings of Canaan, who possessed the places beside the great sea, had heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the sons of Israel, until they crossed over it, their heart was broken, and there remained in them no spirit, out of fear at the entrance of the sons of Israel.	1 Cuando oyeron todos los reyes de los amorreos que habitaban al otro lado del Jordán, al poniente, y todos los reyes de los cananeos que vivían hacia el mar, que Yahveh había secado las aguas del Jordán ante los israelitas hasta que pasaron, desfalleció su corazón y les faltó el aliento ante la presencia de los israelitas.
2 So at that time, the Lord said to Joshua: “Make for yourself knives of stone, and circumcise the sons of Israel a second time.”	2 En aquel tiempo dijo Yahveh a Josué: «Hazte cuchillos de pedernal y vuelve a circuncidar (por segunda vez) a los israelitas».
3 He did what the Lord had commanded, and he circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.	3 Josué se hizo cuchillos de pedernal y circuncidó a los israelitas en el Collado de los Prepucios.
4 Now this is the reason for the second circumcision: All the people who departed from Egypt of the male gender, all the men fit for war, died in the desert during the very long wandering way;	4 Por este motivo hizo Josué esta circuncisión: toda la población masculina salida de Egipto, los útiles para la guerra, había muerto en el desierto, por el camino, después de la salida de Egipto.
5 all these had been circumcised. But the people who were born in the desert,	5 Estaba circuncidada toda la población que había salido, pero el pueblo nacido en el desierto, de camino, después de la salida de Egipto, no había sido circuncidado.
6 throughout the forty years of the journey in the very broad wilderness, were uncircumcised, until the ones who had not listened to the voice of the Lord were consumed. For he had sworn to them before, that he would not reveal to them the land flowing with milk and honey.	6 Porque durante cuarenta años anduvieron los israelitas por el desierto, hasta que pereció toda la nación, los hombres salidos de Egipto útiles para la guerra. No obedecieron a la voz de Yahveh y Yahveh les juró que no les dejaría ver la tierra que había prometido a sus padres que nos daría, tierra que mana leche y miel.
7 The sons of these ones succeeded to the place of their fathers, and they were circumcised by Joshua. For they were uncircumcised, just as they had been born, and no one had circumcised them along the way.	7 En su lugar puso a sus hijos y éstos son los que Josué circuncidó, porque eran incircuncisos, ya que no los habían circuncidado por el camino.
8 Then, after they were all circumcised, they remained in the same place of the camp until they were healed.	8 Cuando acabó de circuncidarse toda la gente, se quedaron donde estaban en el campamento hasta que se curaron.
9 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have taken away from you the disgrace of Egypt.” And the name of that place was called Gilgal, even to the present day.	9 Y dijo Yahveh a Josué: «Hoy os he quitado de encima el oprobio de Egipto». Por eso se llamó aquel lugar Guilgal, hasta el día de hoy.
10 And the sons of Israel stayed at Gilgal, and they kept the Passover, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, in the plains of Jericho.	10 Los israelitas acamparon en Guilgal y celebraron allí la Pascua el día catorce del mes, a la tarde, en los llanos de Jericó.
11 And on the following day, they ate unleavened bread from the grain of the land, and cooked grain, of the same year.	11 Al día siguiente de la Pascua comieron ya de los productos del país: panes ázimos y espigas tostadas, ese mismo día.
12 And the manna ceased after they ate from the grain of the land. And the sons of Israel no longer made use of that food. Instead, they ate from the grain of the present year, from the land of Canaan.	12 Y el maná cesó desde el día siguiente, en que empezaron a comer los productos del país. Los israelitas no tuvieron en adelante maná, y se alimentaron ya aquel año de los productos de la tierra de Canaán.
13 And when Joshua was in the field of the city of Jericho, he lifted up his eyes, and he saw a man standing opposite him, holding a drawn sword. And he went to him and said, “Are you one of ours, or one of our adversaries?”	13 Sucedió que estando Josué cerca de Jericó, levantó los ojos y vio a un hombre plantado frente a él con una espada desnuda en la mano. Josué se adelantó hacia él y le dijo: «¿Eres de los nuestros o de nuestros enemigos?»
14 And he responded: “Not at all. Instead, I am a prince of the host of the Lord, and now I have arrived.”	14 Respondió: «No, sino que soy el jefe del ejército de Yahveh. He venido ahora». Cayó Josué rostro en tierra, le adoró y dijo: «¿Qué dice mi Señor a su siervo?»
15 Joshua fell prone on the ground. And reverencing, he said, “What does my lord say to his servant?”	15 El jefe del ejército de Yahveh respondió a Josué: «Quítate las sandalias de tus pies, porque el lugar en que estás es sagrado». Así lo hizo Josué.
16 He said: “Remove your shoes from your feet. For the place on which you stand is holy.” And Joshua did just as he had been commanded.
