Acts of the Apostles 13

1 Now there were, in the Church at Antioch, prophets and teachers, among whom were Barnabas, and Simon, who was called the Black, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manahen, who was the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.	1 Il y avait dans l'Eglise établie à Antioche des prophètes et des docteurs: Barnabé, Syméon appeléNiger, Lucius de Cyrène, Manaën, ami d'enfance d'Hérode le tétrarque, et Saul.
2 Now as they were ministering for the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said to them: “Separate Saul and Barnabas for me, for the work for which I have selected them.”	2 Or un jour, tandis qu'ils célébraient le culte du Seigneur et jeûnaient, l'Esprit Saint dit: "Mettez-moidonc à part Barnabé et Saul en vue de l'oeuvre à laquelle je les ai appelés."
3 Then, fasting and praying and imposing their hands upon them, they sent them away.	3 Alors, après avoir jeûné et prié, ils leur imposèrent les mains et les laissèrent à leur mission.
4 And having been sent by the Holy Spirit, they went to Seleucia. And from there they sailed to Cyprus.	4 Eux donc, envoyés en mission par le Saint Esprit, descendirent à Séleucie, d'où ils firent voile pourChypre.
5 And when they had arrived at Salamis, they were preaching the Word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they also had John in the ministry.	5 Arrivés à Salamine, ils se mirent à annoncer la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs. Ilsavaient avec eux Jean comme auxiliaire.
6 And when they had traveled throughout the entire island, even to Paphos, they found a certain man, a magician, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-Jesu.	6 Ayant traversé toute l'île jusqu'à Paphos, ils trouvèrent là un magicien, faux prophète juif, nomméBar-Jésus,
7 And he was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man. This man, summoning Barnabas and Saul, wanted to hear the Word of God.	7 qui était de l'entourage du proconsul Sergius Paulus, homme avisé. Ce dernier fit appeler Barnabé etSaul, désireux d'entendre la parole de Dieu.
8 But Elymas the magician (for so his name is translated) stood against them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the Faith.	8 Mais Elymas le magicien - ainsi se traduit son nom - leur faisait opposition, cherchant à détourner leproconsul de la foi.
9 Then Saul, who is also called Paul, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him,	9 Alors Saul - appelé aussi Paul --, rempli de l'Esprit Saint, le fixa du regard
10 and he said: “So full of every deceit and of all falsehoods, son of the devil, enemy of all justice, you never cease to subvert the righteous ways of the Lord!	10 et lui dit: "Etre rempli de toutes les astuces et de toutes les scélératesses, fils du diable, ennemi detoute justice, ne cesseras-tu donc pas de rendre tortueuses les voies du Seigneur qui sont droites?
11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you. And you will be blinded, not seeing the sun for a length of time.” And immediately a fog and a darkness fell over him. And wandering around, he was seeking someone who might lead him by the hand.	11 Voici à présent que la main du Seigneur est sur toi. Tu vas devenir aveugle, et pour un temps tu neverras plus le soleil." A l'instant même, obscurité et ténèbres s'abattirent sur lui, et il tournait de tous côtés,cherchant quelqu'un pour le conduire.
12 Then the proconsul, when he had seen what was done, believed, being in wonder over the doctrine of the Lord.	12 Alors, voyant ce qui s'était passé, le proconsul embrassa la foi, vivement frappé par la doctrine duSeigneur.
13 And when Paul and those who were with him had sailed from Paphos, they arrived at Perga in Pamphylia. Then John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.	13 De Paphos, où ils s'embarquèrent, Paul et ses compagnons gagnèrent Pergé, en Pamphylie. MaisJean les quitta pour retourner à Jérusalem.
14 Yet truly, they, traveling on from Perga, arrived at Antioch in Pisidia. And upon entering the synagogue on the Sabbath day, they sat down.	14 Quant à eux, poussant au-delà de Pergé, ils arrivèrent à Antioche de Pisidie. Le jour du sabbat, ilsentrèrent à la synagogue et s'assirent.
15 Then, after the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent to them, saying: “Noble brothers, if there is in you any word of exhortation to the people, speak.”	15 Après la lecture de la Loi et des Prophètes, les chefs de la synagogue leur envoyèrent dire: "Frères,si vous avez quelque parole d'encouragement à dire au peuple, parlez."
16 Then Paul, rising up and motioning for silence with his hand, said: “Men of Israel and you who fear God, listen closely.	16 Paul alors se leva, fit signe de la main et dit: "Hommes d'Israël, et vous qui craignez Dieu, écoutez.
17 The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people, when they were settlers in the land of Egypt. And with an exalted arm, he led them away from there.	17 Le Dieu de ce peuple, le Dieu d'Israël élut nos pères et fit grandir ce peuple durant son exil en terred'Egypte. Puis, en déployant la force de son bras, il les en fit sortir
18 And throughout a time of forty years, he endured their behavior in the desert.	18 et, durant 40 ans environ, il les entoura de soins au désert.
19 And by destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he divided their land among them by lot,	19 Ensuite, après avoir exterminé sept nations dans la terre de Canaan, il les mit en possession de leurpays:
20 after about four hundred and fifty years. And after these things, he gave them judges, even until the prophet Samuel.	20 450 ans environ. Après quoi, il leur donna des juges, jusqu'au prophète Samuel.
21 And later on, they petitioned for a king. And God gave them Saul, the son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.	21 Par la suite, ils demandèrent un roi, et Dieu leur donna Saül, fils de Cis, de la tribu de Benjamin: 40ans.
22 And having removed him, he raised up for them king David. And offering testimony about him, he said, ‘I have found David, the son of Jesse, to be a man according to my own heart, who will accomplish all that I will.’	22 Après l'avoir écarté, Dieu suscita pour eux David comme roi. C'est à lui qu'il a rendu cetémoignage: J'ai trouvé David, fils de Jessé, un homme selon mon coeur, qui accomplira toutes mes volontés.
23 From his offspring, according to the Promise, God has brought Jesus the Savior to Israel.	23 C'est de sa descendance que, suivant sa promesse, Dieu a suscité pour Israël Jésus comme Sauveur.
24 John was preaching, before the face of his advent, a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.	24 Jean, le précurseur, avait préparé son arrivée en proclamant à l'adresse de tout le peuple d'Israël unbaptême de repentance.
25 Then, when John completed his course, he was saying: ‘I am not the one you consider me to be. For behold, one arrives after me, the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to loosen.’	25 Au moment de terminer sa course, Jean disait: Celui que vous croyez que je suis, je ne le suis pas;mais voici venir après moi celui dont je ne suis pas digne de délier la sandale.
26 Noble brothers, sons of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, it is to you the Word of this salvation has been sent.	26 "Frères, vous les enfants de la race d'Abraham et vous ici présents qui craignez Dieu, c'est à vousque ce message de salut a été envoyé.
27 For those who were living in Jerusalem, and its rulers, heeding neither him, nor the voices of the Prophets that are read on every Sabbath, fulfilled these by judging him.	27 En effet, les habitants de Jérusalem et leurs chefs ont accompli sans le savoir les paroles desprophètes qu'on lit chaque sabbat.
28 And although they found no case for death against him, they petitioned Pilate, so that they might put him to death.	28 Sans trouver en lui aucun motif de mort, ils l'ont condamné et ont demandé à Pilate de le faire périr.
29 And when they had fulfilled everything that had been written about him, taking him down from the tree, they placed him in a tomb.	29 Et lorsqu'ils eurent accompli tout ce qui était écrit de lui, ils le descendirent du gibet et le mirent autombeau.
30 Yet truly, God raised him up from the dead on the third day.	30 Mais Dieu l'a ressuscité;
31 And he was seen for many days by those who went up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who even now are his witnesses to the people.	31 pendant de nombreux jours, il est apparu à ceux qui étaient montés avec lui de Galilée à Jérusalem,ceux-là mêmes qui sont maintenant ses témoins auprès du peuple.
32 And we are announcing to you that the Promise, which was made to our fathers,	32 "Et nous, nous vous annonçons la Bonne Nouvelle: la promesse faite à nos pères,
33 has been fulfilled by God for our children by raising up Jesus, just as it has been written in the second Psalm also: ‘You are my Son. This day I have begotten you.’	33 Dieu l'a accomplie en notre faveur à nous, leurs enfants: il a ressuscité Jésus. Ainsi est-il écrit danslesActes Psaumes: Tu es mon fils, moi-même aujourd'hui je t'ai engendré.
34 Now, since he raised him from the dead, so as to no longer return to corruption, he has said this: ‘I will give to you the holy things of David, the faithful one.’	34 Que Dieu l'ait ressuscité des morts et qu'il ne doive plus retourner à la corruption, c'est bien ce qu'ilavait déclaré: Je vous donnerai les choses saintes de David, celles qui sont dignes de foi.
35 And also then, in another place, he says: ‘You will not allow your Holy One to see corruption.’	35 C'est pourquoi il dit ailleurs encore: Tu ne laisseras pas ton Saint voir la corruption.
36 For David, when he had ministered to his generation in accordance with the will of God, fell asleep, and he was placed next to his fathers, and he saw corruption.	36 Or David, après avoir en son temps servi les desseins de Dieu, est mort, a été réuni à ses pères et avu la corruption.
37 Yet truly, he whom God has raised from the dead has not seen corruption.	37 Celui que Dieu a ressuscité, lui, n'a pas vu la corruption.
38 Therefore, let it be known to you, noble brothers, that through him is announced to you remission from sins and from everything by which you were not able to be justified in the law of Moses.	38 "Sachez-le donc, frères, c'est par lui que la rémission des péchés vous est annoncée. L'entièrejustification que vous n'avez pu obtenir par la Loi de Moïse,
39 In him, all who believe are justified.	39 c'est par lui que quiconque croit l'obtient.
40 Therefore, be careful, lest what was said by the Prophets may overwhelm you:	40 "Prenez donc garde que n'arrive ce qui est dit dans les Prophètes:
41 ‘You despisers! Look, and wonder, and be scattered! For I am working a deed in your days, a deed which you would not believe, even if someone were to explain it to you.’ ”	41 Regardez, contempteurs, soyez dans la stupeur et disparaissez! Parce que de vos jours je vaisaccomplir une oeuvre que vous ne croiriez pas si on vous la racontait."
42 Then, as they were departing, they asked them if, on the following Sabbath, they might speak these words to them.	42 Et, à leur sortie, on les invitait à parler encore du même sujet le sabbat suivant.
43 And when the synagogue had been dismissed, many among the Jews and the new worshipers were following Paul and Barnabas. And they, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.	43 Après que l'assemblée se fut séparée, nombre de Juifs et de prosélytes qui adoraient Dieu suivirentPaul et Barnabé, et ceux-ci, dans leurs entretiens, les engageaient à rester fidèles à la grâce de Dieu.
44 Yet truly, on the following Sabbath, nearly the entire city came together to hear the Word of God.	44 Le sabbat suivant, presque toute la ville s'assembla pour entendre la parole de Dieu.
45 Then the Jews, seeing the crowds, were filled with envy, and they, blaspheming, contradicted the things that were being said by Paul.	45 A la vue de cette foule, les Juifs furent remplis de jalousie, et ils répliquaient par des blasphèmesaux paroles de Paul.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas said firmly: “It was necessary to speak the Word of God first to you. But because you reject it, and so judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.	46 S'enhardissant alors, Paul et Barnabé déclarèrent: "C'était à vous d'abord qu'il fallait annoncer laparole de Dieu. Puisque vous la repoussez et ne vous jugez pas dignes de la vie éternelle, eh bien! nous noustournons vers les païens.
47 For so has the Lord instructed us: ‘I have set you as a light to the Gentiles, so that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”	47 Car ainsi nous l'a ordonné le Seigneur: Je t'ai établi lumière des nations, pour que tu portes le salutjusqu'aux extrémités de la terre."
48 Then the Gentiles, upon hearing this, were gladdened, and they were glorifying the Word of the Lord. And as many as believed were preordained to eternal life.	48 Tout joyeux à ces mots, les païens se mirent à glorifier la parole du Seigneur, et tous ceux-làembrassèrent la foi, qui étaient destinés à la vie éternelle.
49 Now the word of the Lord was disseminated throughout the entire region.	49 Ainsi la parole du Seigneur se répandait dans toute la région.
50 But the Jews incited some devout and honest women, and the leaders of the city. And they stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas. And they drove them away from their parts.	50 Mais les Juifs montèrent la tête aux dames de condition qui adoraient Dieu ainsi qu'aux notables dela ville; ils suscitèrent de la sorte une persécution contre Paul et Barnabé et les chassèrent de leur territoire.
51 But they, shaking the dust from their feet against them, went on to Iconium.	51 Ceux-ci, secouant contre eux la poussière de leurs pieds, se rendirent à Iconium.
52 The disciples were likewise filled with gladness and with the Holy Spirit.	52 Quant aux disciples, ils étaient remplis de joie et de l'Esprit Saint.
