1 Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, named Cornelius, a centurion of the cohort which is called Italian,	1 Había en Cesarea un hombre, llamado Cornelio, centurión de la cohorte Itálica,
2 a devout man, fearing God with all his house, giving many alms to the people, and praying to God continually.	2 piadoso y temeroso de Dios, como toda su familia, daba muchas limosnas al pueblo y continuamente oraba a Dios.
3 This man saw in a vision clearly, at about the ninth hour of the day, the Angel of God entering to him and saying to him: “Cornelius!”	3 Vio claramente en visión, hacia la hora nona del día, que el Angel de Dios entraba en su casa y le decía: «Cornelio».
4 And he, gazing at him, was seized by fear, and he said, “What is it, lord?” And he said to him: “Your prayers and your almsgiving have ascended as a memorial in the sight of God.	4 El le miró fijamente y lleno de espanto dijo: «¿Qué pasa, señor?» Le respondió: «Tus oraciones y tus limosnas han subido como memorial ante la presencia de Dios.
5 And now, send men to Joppa and summon a certain Simon, who is surnamed Peter.	5 Ahora envía hombres a Joppe y haz venir a un tal Simón, a quien llaman Pedro.
6 This man is a guest with a certain Simon, a tanner, whose house is beside the sea. He will tell you what you must do.”	6 Este se hospeda en casa de un tal Simón, curtidor, que tiene la casa junto al mar».
7 And when the Angel who was speaking to him had departed, he called, out of those who were subject to him, two of his household servants and a soldier who feared the Lord.	7 Apenas se fue el ángel que le hablaba, llamó a dos criados y a un soldado piadoso, de entre sus asistentes,
8 And when he had explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.	8 les contó todo y los envió a Joppe.
9 Then, on the following day, while they were making the journey and approaching the city, Peter ascended to the upper rooms, so that he might pray, at about the sixth hour.	9 Al día siguiente, mientras ellos iban de camino y se acercaban a la ciudad, subió Pedro al terrado, sobre la hora sexta, para hacer oración.
10 And since he was hungry, he wanted to enjoy some food. Then, as they were preparing it, an ecstasy of mind fell over him.	10 Sintió hambre y quiso comer. Mientras se lo preparaban le sobrevino un éxtasis,
11 And he saw heaven opened, and a certain container descending, as if a great linen sheet were let down, by its four corners, from heaven to earth,	11 y vio los cielos abiertos y que bajaba hacia la tierra una cosa así como un gran lienzo, atado por las cuatro puntas.
12 on which were all four-footed beasts, and the crawling things of the earth and the flying things of the air.	12 Dentro de él había toda suerte de cuadrúpedos, reptiles de la tierra y aves del cielo.
13 And a voice came to him: “Rise up, Peter! Kill and eat.”	13 Y una voz le dijo: «Levántate, Pedro, sacrifica y come».
14 But Peter said: “Far be it from me, lord. For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”	14 Pedro contestó: «De ninguna manera, Señor; jamás he comido nada profano e impuro».
15 And the voice, again a second time to him: “What God has purified, you shall not call common.”	15 La voz le dijo por segunda vez: «Lo que Dios ha purificado no lo llames tú profano».
16 Now this was done three times. And immediately the container was taken up to heaven.	16 Esto se repitió tres veces, e inmediatamente la cosa aquella fue elevada hacia el cielo.
17 Now while Peter was still hesitant within himself as to what the vision, which he had seen, might mean, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius stood at the gate, inquiring about Simon’s house.	17 Estaba Pedro perplejo pensando qué podría significar la visión que había visto, cuando los hombres enviados por Cornelio, después de preguntar por la casa de Simón, se presentaron en la puerta;
18 And when they had called out, they asked if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, was a guest in that place.	18 llamaron y preguntaron si se hospedaba allí Simón, llamado Pedro.
19 Then, as Peter was thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.	19 Estando Pedro pensando en la visión, le dijo el Espíritu: «Ahí tienes unos hombres que te buscan.
20 And so, rise up, descend, and go with them, doubting nothing. For I have sent them.”	20 Baja, pues, al momento y vete con ellos sin vacilar, pues yo los he enviado».
21 Then Peter, descending to the men, said: “Behold, I am the one whom you seek. What is the reason for which you have arrived?”	21 Pedro bajó donde ellos y les dijo: «Yo soy el que buscáis; ¿por qué motivo habéis venido?»
22 And they said: “Cornelius, a centurion, a just and God-fearing man, who has good testimony from the entire nation of the Jews, received a message from a holy Angel to summon you to his house and to listen to words from you.”	22 Ellos respondieron: «El centurión Cornelio, hombre justo y temeroso de Dios, reconocido como tal por el testimonio de toda la nación judía, ha recibido de un ángel santo el aviso de hacerte venir a su casa y de escuchar lo que tú digas».
23 Therefore, leading them in, he received them as guests. Then, on following the day, rising up, he set out with them. And some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.	23 Entonces les invitó a entrar y les dio hospedaje. Al día siguiente se levantó y se fue con ellos; le acompañaron algunos hermanos de Joppe.
24 And on the next day, he entered Caesarea. And truly, Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his family and closest friends.	24 Al siguiente día entró en Cesarea. Cornelio los estaba esperando. Había reunido a sus parientes y a los amigos íntimos.
25 And it happened that, when Peter had entered, Cornelius went to meet him. And falling before his feet, he reverenced.	25 Cuando Pedro entraba salió Cornelio a su encuentro y cayó postrado a sus pies.
26 Yet truly, Peter, lifting him up, said: “Rise up, for I also am only a man.”	26 Pedro le levantó diciéndole: «Levántate, que también yo soy un hombre».
27 And speaking with him, he entered, and he found many who had gathered together.	27 Y conversando con él entró y encontró a muchos reunidos.
28 And he said to them: “You know how abominable it would be for a Jewish man to be joined with, or to be added to, a foreign people. But God has revealed to me to call no man common or unclean.	28 Y les dijo: «Vosotros sabéis que no le está permitido a un judío juntarse con un extranjero ni entrar en su casa; pero a mí me ha mostrado Dios que no hay que llamar profano o impuro a ningún hombre.
29 Because of this and without doubt, I came when summoned. Therefore, I ask you, for what reason have you summoned me?”	29 Por eso al ser llamado he venido sin dudar. Os pregunto, pues, por qué motivo me habéis enviado a llamar».
30 And Cornelius said: “It is now the fourth day, to this very hour, since I was praying in my house at the ninth hour, and behold, a man stood before me in a white vestment, and he said:	30 Cornelio contestó: «Hace cuatro días, a esta misma hora, estaba yo haciendo la oración de nona en mi casa, y de pronto se presentó delante de mí un varón con vestidos resplandecientes,
31 ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your almsgiving has been remembered in the sight of God.	31 y me dijo: “Cornelio, tu oración ha sido oída y se han recordado tus limosnas ante Dios;
32 Therefore, send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is surnamed Peter. This man is a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, near the sea.’	32 envía, pues, a Joppe y haz llamar a Simón, llamado Pedro, que se hospeda en casa de Simón el curtidor, junto al mar.”
33 And so, I promptly sent for you. And you have done well in coming here. Therefore, all of us are now present in your sight to hear all the things that were taught to you by the Lord.”	33 Al instante mandé enviados donde ti, y tú has hecho bien en venir. Ahora, pues, todos nosotros, en la presencia de Dios, estamos dispuestos para escuchar todo lo que te ha sido ordenado por el Señor».
34 Then, Peter, opening his mouth, said: “I have concluded in truth that God is not a respecter of persons.	34 Entonces Pedro tomó la palabra y dijo: «Verdaderamente comprendo que Dios no hace acepción de personas,
35 But within every nation, whoever fears him and works justice is acceptable to him.	35 sino que en cualquier nación el que le teme y practica la justicia le es grato.
36 God sent the Word to the sons of Israel, announcing the peace through Jesus Christ, for he is the Lord of all.	36 «El ha enviado su Palabra a los hijos de Israel, anunciándoles la Buena Nueva de la paz por medio de Jesucristo que es el Señor de todos.
37 You know that the Word has been made known throughout all Judea. For beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached,	37 Vosotros sabéis lo sucedido en toda Judea, comenzando por Galilea, después que Juan predicó el bautismo;
38 Jesus of Nazareth, whom God anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power, traveled around doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil. For God was with him.	38 cómo Dios a Jesús de Nazaret le ungió con el Espíritu Santo y con poder, y cómo él pasó haciendo el bien y curando a todos los oprimidos por el Diablo, porque Dios estaba con él;
39 And we are witnesses of all that he did in the region of Judea and in Jerusalem, he whom they killed by hanging him on a tree.	39 y nosotros somos testigos de todo lo que hizo en la región de los judíos y en Jerusalén; a quien llegaron a matar colgándole de un madero;
40 God raised him up on the third day and permitted him to be made manifest,	40 a éste, Dios le resucitó al tercer día y le concedió la gracia de aparecerse,
41 not to all the people, but to the witnesses preordained by God, to those of us who ate and drank with him after he rose again from the dead.	41 no a todo el pueblo, sino a los testigos que Dios había escogido de antemano, a nosotros que comimos y bebimos con él después que resucitó de entre los muertos.
42 And he instructed us to preach to the people, and to testify that he is the One who was appointed by God to be the judge of the living and of the dead.	42 Y nos mandó que predicásemos al Pueblo, y que diésemos testimonio de que él está constituido por Dios juez de vivos y muertos.
43 To him all the Prophets offer testimony that through his name all who believe in him receive the remission of sins.”	43 De éste todos los profetas dan testimonio de que todo el que cree en él alcanza, por su nombre, el perdón de los pecados».
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell over all of those who were listening to the Word.	44 Estaba Pedro diciendo estas cosas cuando el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre todos los que escuchaban la Palabra.
45 And the faithful of the circumcision, who had arrived with Peter, were astonished that the grace of the Holy Spirit was also poured out upon the Gentiles.	45 Y los fieles circuncisos que habían venido con Pedro quedaron atónitos al ver que el don del Espíritu Santo había sido derramado también sobre los gentiles,
46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and magnifying God.	46 pues les oían hablar en lenguas y glorificar a Dios. Entonces Pedro dijo:
47 Then Peter responded, “How could anyone prohibit water, so that those who have received the Holy Spirit would not be baptized, just as we also have been?”	47 «¿Acaso puede alguno negar el agua del bautismo a éstos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo como nosotros?»
48 And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then they begged him to remain with them for some days.	48 Y mandó que fueran bautizados en el nombre de Jesucristo. Entonces le pidieron que se quedase algunos días.
