Deuteronomy 5

1 And Moses summoned all of Israel, and he said to them: “Listen, O Israel, to the ceremonies and judgments, which I am speaking to your ears on this day. Learn them, and fulfill them in deed.	1 Mosè convocò tutto Israele e disse loro: "Ascolta, Israele, le prescrizioni e i decreti che io oggi pronuncio alle tue orecchie. Imparateli e osservateli, mettendoli in pratica.
2 The Lord our God formed a covenant with us at Horeb.	2 Il Signore nostro Dio strinse con noi un'alleanza all'Oreb.
3 He did not make the covenant with our fathers, but with us, who are alive and in the present time.	3 Non con i nostri padri il Signore strinse quest'alleanza, ma con noi che oggi siamo qui tutti vivi.
4 He spoke to us face to face on the mountain, from the midst of fire.	4 Il Signore parlò con voi sulla montagna in mezzo al fuoco faccia a faccia;
5 I was the mediator, for I was in the middle between the Lord and you, at that time, to announce his words to you. For you were afraid of the fire, and so you did not ascend to the mountain. And he said:	5 io stavo tra il Signore e voi in quel tempo per riferirvi le parole del Signore. Perché voi aveste paura del fuoco e non saliste sulla montagna. Egli disse:
6 ‘I am the Lord your God, who led you away from the land of Egypt, from the house of servitude.	6 "Io sono il Signore tuo Dio, che ti ho fatto uscire dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.
7 You shall not have strange gods in my sight.	7 Non avrai altri dèi davanti a me.
8 You shall not make for yourself a graven image, nor the likeness of anything, which is in heaven above, or on earth below, or which abides in the waters under the earth.	8 Non ti farai nessuna figura scolpita di qualsiasi genere: di ciò ch'è in alto nei cieli, di ciò ch'è in basso sulla terra e di ciò che è nelle acque sotto la terra.
9 You shall not adore and you shall not worship these things. For I am the Lord your God, a jealous God, repaying the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons to the third and fourth generation to those who hate me,	9 Non li adorerai e non li servirai. Perché io, il Signore tuo Dio, sono un Dio geloso, che punisce l'iniquità dei padri sui figli, sulla terza e quarta generazione di coloro che mi odiano,
10 and acting with mercy in thousands of ways to those who love me and keep my precepts.	10 ma fa grazia fino alla millesima generazione di coloro che mi amano e osservano i miei precetti.
11 You shall not use the name of the Lord your God in vain. For he will not go unpunished who takes up his name over an unimportant matter.	11 Non ti servirai del nome del Signore tuo Dio per la menzogna, poiché il Signore non lascia impunito chi si serve del suo nome per la menzogna.
12 Observe the day of the Sabbath, so that you may sanctify it, just as the Lord your God has instructed you.	12 Osserva il giorno del sabato per santificarlo, come ti ha ordinato il Signore tuo Dio.
13 For six days, you shall labor and do all your work.	13 Per sei giorni lavorerai e farai tutte le tue opere,
14 The seventh is the day of the Sabbath, that is, the rest of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work in it, nor shall your son, nor daughter, nor man servant, nor woman servant, nor ox, nor donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor the sojourner who is within your gates, so that your men and woman servants may rest, just as you do.	14 ma il settimo giorno è il sabato per il Signore tuo Dio; non farai alcun lavoro, né tu né tuo figlio né tua figlia né il tuo servo né la tua serva né il tuo bue né il tuo asino né alcuna delle tue bestie né il forestiero che si trova entro le tue porte affinché si riposi il tuo servo e la tua serva come te.
15 Remember that you also were servants in Egypt, and the Lord your God led you away from that place with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. Because of this, he has instructed you so that you would observe the Sabbath day.	15 Ricorda che sei stato servo nella terra d'Egitto e che il Signore tuo Dio ti ha fatto uscire di là con mano forte e braccio steso; perciò il Signore tuo Dio ti ha ordinato di celebrare il giorno del sabato.
16 Honor your father and mother, just as the Lord your God has instructed you, so that you may live a long time, and so that it may be well with you in the land, which the Lord your God will give to you.	16 Onora tuo padre e tua madre come ti ha ordinato il Signore tuo Dio, affinché prolunghi i tuoi giorni e sii felice sul suolo che il Signore tuo Dio ti dona.
17 You shall not murder.	17 Non ucciderai.
18 And you shall not commit adultery.	18 Non commetterai adulterio.
19 And you shall not commit theft.	19 Non ruberai.
20 Neither shall you speak false testimony against your neighbor.	20 Non renderai una testimonianza falsa contro il tuo prossimo.
21 You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his house, nor his field, nor his man servant, nor his woman servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything out of all that is his.’	21 Non desidererai la moglie del tuo prossimo; non bramerai la casa del tuo prossimo né il suo campo né il suo servo né la sua serva né il suo bue né il suo asino e nulla di quanto è del tuo prossimo".
22 The Lord spoke these words to the entire multitude of you on the mountain, from the midst of the fire and the cloud and the darkness, with a loud voice, adding nothing more. And he wrote them on two tablets of stone, which he delivered to me.	22 Queste parole disse il Signore a tutta la vostra assemblea sul monte, in mezzo al fuoco, alle nubi e ai nembi: voce grande! Non aggiunse altro; le scrisse su due tavole di pietra e le diede a me.
23 Then, after you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, and you saw the mountain burning, you approached me, all you leaders of the tribes and those greater by birth. And you said:	23 Quando voi udiste la voce di mezzo alle tenebre, mentre il monte era in fiamme, si avvicinarono a me tutti i vostri capitribù e anziani
24 ‘Behold, the Lord our God has revealed to us his majesty and his greatness. We have heard his voice from the midst of fire, and we have proven today that, though God is speaking with man, man has lived.	24 e mi dissero: "Il Signore nostro Dio ci ha mostrato la sua gloria e la sua grandezza, e abbiamo udito la sua voce di mezzo al fuoco: oggi abbiamo visto che Dio può parlare all'uomo e questi rimanere vivo.
25 Therefore, why should we die, and why should this very great fire devour us? For if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer, we will die.	25 Ma ora perché dovremmo morire? Questo gran fuoco, infatti, ci divorerà. Se noi continuiamo a udire la voce del Signore nostro Dio, moriremo.
26 What is all flesh, that it would hear the voice of the living God, who speaks from the midst of fire, just as we have heard it, and be able to live?	26 Perché chi è fra tutti i mortali che, come noi, abbia udito la voce del Dio vivo che parla in mezzo al fuoco e sia rimasto vivo?
27 Instead, you should approach and listen to all the things that the Lord our God will say to you. And you will speak to us, and we will listen and do these things.’	27 Accostati tu e ascolta tutto ciò che dirà il Signore nostro Dio; tu ripeterai a noi tutto ciò che ti avrà detto il Signore nostro Dio e noi ascolteremo ed eseguiremo".
28 But when the Lord had heard this, he said to me: ‘I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they spoke to you. All this, they have spoken well.	28 Il Signore udì il suono delle vostre parole mentre voi mi parlavate e mi disse: "Ho udito il suono delle parole di questo popolo, che ti hanno rivolto. Hanno parlato bene in tutto.
29 Who will grant to them to have such a mind, so that they may fear me, and may keep all my commandments at all times, so that it may be well with them and with their sons forever?	29 Potesse il loro cuore essere sempre così nel temere me e nell'osservare tutti i miei precetti, perché fossero felici loro e i loro figli!
30 Go and say to them: Return to your tents.	30 Va' e di' loro: Ritornate alle vostre tende.
31 But as for you, stand here with me, and I will speak to you all my commandments and ceremonies, as well as judgments. These, you shall teach them, so that they may do them in the land, which I will give to them as a possession.	31 Tu invece resta qui presso di me. Io ti indicherò tutti i precetti, le prescrizioni e i decreti che dovrai insegnare loro, perché li mettano in pratica nella terra che do loro in possesso".
32 And so, keep and do the things which the Lord God has commanded you. You shall not turn aside, neither to the right, nor to the left.	32 Guardate dunque di fare come vi ha ordinato il Signore vostro Dio. Non devierete né a destra né a sinistra.
33 For you shall walk in the way that the Lord your God has instructed, so that you may live, and it may be well with you, and your days may be extended in the land of your possession.’ ”	33 Seguirete tutta la strada che vi ha ordinato il Signore vostro Dio, perché viviate, siate felici, e prolunghiate i vostri giorni sulla terra che occuperete.
