1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert, in order to be tempted by the devil.	1 Jésus fut alors conduit par l’Esprit au désert pour y être tenté par le diable.
2 And when he had fasted for forty days and forty nights, afterwards he was hungry.	2 Il resta quarante jours et quarante nuits sans manger, après quoi il eut faim.
3 And approaching, the tempter said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”	3 Le tentateur s’approche donc et lui dit: "Si tu es Fils de Dieu, dis à ces pierres qu’elles deviennent des pains.”
4 And in response he said, “It has been written: ‘Not by bread alone shall man live, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”	4 Mais Jésus lui répond: "Il est écrit que l’homme ne vit pas seulement de pain, mais de toute parole qui sort de la bouche de Dieu.”
5 Then the devil took him up, into the holy city, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple,	5 Alors le diable l’emmène à la Ville Sainte et le dépose sur le rempart du Temple.
6 and said to him: “If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down. For it has been written: ‘For he has given charge of you to his angels, and they shall take you into their hands, lest perhaps you may hurt your foot against a stone.’ ”	6 Et il lui dit: "Si tu es Fils de Dieu, jette-toi en bas, car il est écrit: Il a donné pour toi un ordre à ses anges; de leurs mains ils te tiendront, de peur que ton pied ne heurte quelque pierre.”
7 Jesus said to him, “Again, it has been written: ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”	7 Mais Jésus lui répond: “Il est écrit aussi: Tu ne mettras pas au défi le Seigneur ton Dieu.”
8 Again, the devil took him up, onto a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory,	8 Une fois encore le diable l’emmène à une très haute montagne et lui montre toutes les nations du monde, dans toute leur splendeur.
9 and said to him, “All these things I will give to you, if you will fall down and adore me.”	9 Et il lui dit: "Je te donnerai tout cela si tu tombes à mes pieds pour m’adorer.”
10 Then Jesus said to him: “Go away, Satan. For it has been written: ‘You shall adore the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’ ”	10 Mais Jésus lui dit: "Retire-toi, Satan; car il est écrit: Tu adoreras le Seigneur ton Dieu, c’est lui seul que tu serviras.”
11 Then the devil left him. And behold, Angels approached and ministered to him.	11 Alors le diable le laisse. Aussitôt des anges s’approchent, et ils le servent.
12 And when Jesus had heard that John had been handed over, he withdrew into Galilee.	12 Quand Jésus apprend que Jean a été arrêté, il s’éloigne et va en Galilée.
13 And leaving behind the city of Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, near the sea, at the borders of Zebulun and of Naphtali,	13 Là il laisse Nazareth et vient séjourner à Capharnaüm, sur le bord de mer, à la frontière de Zabulon et de Nephtali.
14 in order to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:	14 Ainsi va s’accomplir ce qu’a dit le prophète Isaïe:
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way of the sea across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles:	15 Écoutez, terres de Zabulon et de Nephtali, route de la mer et rives du Jourdain, et toi, Galilée, province des païens!
16 A people who were sitting in darkness have seen a great light. And unto those sitting in the region of the shadow of death, a light has risen.”	16 Le peuple jeté dans les ténèbres a vu une grande lumière. Pour ceux qui restaient dans l’ombre, au pays de la mort, une lumière s’est levée.
17 From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say: “Repent. For the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.”	17 Dès ce moment Jésus commença à proclamer son message. Il disait: "Convertissez-vous, car le Royaume de Dieu est tout proche.”
18 And Jesus, walking near the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen).	18 Comme Jésus passait le long de la mer de Galilée, il y avait là deux frères, Simon qu’on appelle Pierre, et André son frère. Il les vit qui jetaient leurs filets dans la mer, car ils étaient pêcheurs,
19 And he said to them: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”	19 et il leur dit: "Venez, suivez-moi. Je ferai de vous des pêcheurs d’hommes.”
20 And at once, leaving behind their nets, they followed him.	20 Aussitôt ils laissèrent leurs filets et le suivirent.
21 And continuing on from there, he saw another two brothers, James of Zebedee, and his brother John, in a ship with their father Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them.	21 Un peu plus loin, Jésus vit encore deux frères, Jacques fils de Zébédée, et Jean son frère; ils étaient avec leur père Zébédée dans la barque, en train d’arranger leurs filets. Jésus les appela;
22 And immediately, leaving their nets and their father behind, they followed him.	22 aussitôt ils laissèrent leur père avec la barque et commencèrent à le suivre.
23 And Jesus traveled throughout all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every infirmity among the people.	23 Jésus circulait dans toute la Galilée. Il les enseignait dans leurs synagogues, il proclamait la Bonne Nouvelle du Royaume et guérissait le peuple de tout mal et de toute maladie.
24 And reports of him went out to all of Syria, and they brought to him all those who had maladies, those who were in the grasp of various sicknesses and torments, and those who were in the hold of demons, and the mentally ill, and paralytics. And he cured them.	24 On entendait parler de lui dans toute la province de Syrie. On lui amenait tous ceux qui allaient mal, des gens atteints de douleurs ou de maladies diverses, ou qui avaient un démon, ainsi que des épileptiques et des paralysés: Jésus les guérissait tous.
25 And a great crowd followed him from Galilee, and from the Ten Cities, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from across the Jordan.	25 Des foules commencèrent à le suivre; on venait de la Galilée, de la Décapole, de Jérusalem, de Judée et de l’autre rive du Jourdain.
