Zechariah 7

1 And it happened, in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is Kislev.	1 Nel quarto anno del re Dario, nel quarto giorno del nono mese, che è Casleu, la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Zaccaria.
2 And Sharezer and Regemmelech, and the men who were with them, sent to the house of God, to entreat the face of the Lord,	2 Allora avevan mandato alla casa di Dio Sarasar, Rogomelec e gli uomini che eran con lui, per pregare dinanzi al Signore,
3 to speak to the priests of the house of the Lord of hosts and to the prophets, saying: “Must there be weeping with me in the fifth month, and must I sanctify myself, as I have now done for many years?”	3 e per interrogare i sacerdoti della casa del Signore degli eserciti e i profeti, con queste parole: « Devo piangere il quinto mese, o devo purificarmi, come ho già fatto per molti anni? »
4 And the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying:	4 La parola del Signore degli eserciti mi fu rivolta in questi termini:
5 Speak to all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying: Although you may have fasted and mourned in the fifth and the seventh month for these seventy years, did you indeed keep a fast unto me?	5 « Parla a tutto il popolo del paese, e ai sacerdoti, e di' loro: — Quando voi digiunaste e piangeste il quinto e il settimo mese in questi settanta anni, faceste forse per me il vostro digiuno?
6 And when you did eat and drink, did you not eat for yourselves, and drink only for yourselves?	6 E quando avete mangiato e bevuto, non avete forse mangiato e bevuto, per conto vostro?
7 Are not these the words that the Lord has spoken by the hand of the former prophets, when Jerusalem was still inhabited, so that it would prosper, itself and the cities around it, and those inhabitants towards the South and in the plains?	7 Non son forse queste le parole dette dal Signore per mezzo degli antichi profeti, quando Gerusalemme era piena di popolo e di ricchezze, essa e le città circonvicine, quando erano abitate le parti del mezzogiorno e le pianure? »
8 And the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying:	8 E la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Zaccaria in questi termini:
9 Thus says the Lord of hosts, saying: Judge with true judgment, and act with mercy and compassion, each and every one with his brother.	9 « Così parla il Signore degli eserciti, dicendo: Giudicate secondo la verità, usate misericordia e compassione, ciascuno verso il suo fratello,
10 And do not find fault with the widow, and the orphan, and the newcomer, and the poor. And let not a man consider evil in his heart towards his brother.	10 e guardatevi dall'opprimer la vedova e l'orfano, il forestiero e il povero, e nessuno pensi nel suo cuore a far del male al fratello ».
11 But they were not willing to pay attention, and they turned aside their shoulder to depart, and they pressed upon their ears, so that they would not hear.	11 Ma essi non vollero dar retta, voltarono lo ribelli spalle, e ingrossarono l'udito per non intendere.
12 And they set their heart like the hardest stone, so that they would not hear the law and the words that the Lord of hosts has sent with his Spirit by the hand of the former prophets. And so a great indignation came from Lord of hosts.	12 E resero il loro cuore come il diamante, per non ascoltare la legge e lo parole che il Signore degli eserciti, per mezzo del suo spirito, aveva messe in bocca agli antichi profeti; e ne venne la grande ira del Signore degli eserciti.
13 And it happened, just as he had spoken, and they did not pay attention. So then, they shall cry out, and I will not heed, says the Lord of hosts.	13 E avvenne: « Siccome alle parole non han dato ascolto, essi grideranno, ed io non li esaudirò, — dice il Signore degli eserciti, — ne li ho dispersi per tutti i regni, loro ignoti, e, senza di essi, la terra è stata desolata, non essendoci chi andasse e venisse ». Così una terra di delizie l'han ridotta a un deserto.
14 And I dispersed them throughout all the kingdoms that they did not know. And the land was left desolate behind them, so that no one was passing through or returning. And they made the desirable land into a deserted place.
