CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
The burden that Habakkuk the prophet saw.1 Oráculo que el profeta Habacuc recibió en una visión.
How long, O Lord, shall I cry out, and you will not heed? Shall I shout to you while suffering violence, and you will not save?2 ¿Hasta cuándo, Señor, pediré auxilio sin que tú escuches, clamaré hacia ti: «¡Violencia», sin que tú salves?
Why have you revealed to me iniquity and hardship, to see plunder and injustice opposite me? And there has been judgment, but the opposition is more powerful.3 ¿Por qué me haces ver la iniquidad y te quedas mirando la opresión? No veo más que saqueo y violencia, hay contiendas y aumenta la discordia.
Because of this, the law has been torn apart, and judgment does not persevere to its conclusion. For the impious prevail against the just. Because of this, a perverse judgment is issued.4 Por eso la Ley no tiene vigencia y el derecho no aparece jamás: ¡sí, el impío asedia al justo, por eso sale a luz un derecho falseado!
Gaze among the nations, and see. Admire, and be astounded. For a work has been done in your days, which no one will believe when it is told.5 Miren a las naciones y observen, asómbrense y queden pasmados, porque en estos días realizaré una obra que si se la contaran, no la creerían.
For behold, I will raise up the Chaldeans, a bitter and swift people, marching across the width of the earth, to possess tabernacles not their own.6 Sí, yo voy a suscitar a los caldeos, ese pueblo salvaje e impetuoso, que recorre las extensiones de la tierra, para usurpar moradas ajenas.
It is dreadful and terrible. From themselves, judgment and their burden will issue.7 ¡Es aterrador y temible: en él solo se funda su derecho y preeminencia!
Their horses are more nimble than leopards and swifter than wolves in the evening; their horsemen will spread out. And then their horsemen will approach from far away; they will fly like the eagle, hurrying to devour.8 Sus caballos son más ágiles que leopardos, más rapaces que lobos nocturnos; sus jinetes galopan, sus jinetes vienen de lejos, vuelan como el águila que se lanza sobre su presa.
They will all approach towards the prey; their face is like a burning wind. And they will gather captives together like sand.9 ¡Todos llegan para la violencia con el rostro tendido hacia adelante, y amontonan cautivos como arena!
And concerning kings, he will triumph, and sovereign rulers will be his laughingstock, and he will laugh over every fortress, and he will transport a rampart and seize it.10 El se burla de los reyes, los soberanos son un juguete para él, juega con las ciudades fortificadas, levanta un terraplén y las conquista.
Then his spirit will be altered, and he will cross over and fall. Such is his strength from his god.11 Entonces, cambia el viento y sigue adelante... ¡El hace de la fuerza su dios!
Have you not existed from the beginning, Lord my God, my holy one, and so we shall not die? Lord, you have stationed him for judgment, and you have establish that his strength will be swept away.12 ¿No eres tú, Señor, desde los tiempos antiguos, mi Dios, mi Santo, que no muere jamás? Tú, Señor, pusiste a ese pueblo para hacer justicia, tú, mi Roca, lo estableciste para castigar.
Your eyes are pure, you do not behold evil, and you cannot look towards iniquity. Why do you look upon the agents of iniquity, and remain silent, while the impious is devouring one who is more just than himself?13 Tus ojos son demasiado puros para mirar el mal y no puedes contemplar la opresión. ¿Por qué, entonces, contemplas a los traidores y callas cuando el impío devora a uno más que él?
And you will make men like the fish of the sea and like the creeping things that have no ruler.14 ¡Tú tratas a los hombres como a los peces del mar, como a reptiles, que no tienen jefe!
He lifted up everything with his hook. He drew them in with his dragnet, and gathered them into his netting. Over this, he will rejoice and exult.15 ¡El los pesca a todos con el anzuelo, los barre y los recoge con sus redes! Por eso se alegra y se regocija,
For this reason, he will offer victims to his dragnet, and he will sacrifice to his netting. For through them, his portion has been made fat, and his meals elite.16 y ofrece sacrificios e incienso a sus redes, porque gracias a ellas su porción es abundantes y sus manjares, suculentos.
Because of this, therefore, he expands his dragnet and will not be lenient in continually putting to death the peoples.17 ¿Vaciará sus redes sin cesar, masacrando a los pueblos sin compasión?
