The word that Isaiah, the son of Amoz, saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.1 Vision d’Isaïe fils d’Amos au sujet de Juda et de Jérusalem.
And in the last days, the mountain of the house of the Lord will be prepared at the summit of the mountains, and it will be exalted above the hills, and all the nations shall flow to it.2 Voici ce qui arrivera à la fin des temps: la montagne du temple de Yahvé sera remaniée, elle deviendra le premier des monts et dominera toute autre hauteur. Toutes les nations monteront vers elle,
And many peoples will go, and they will say: “Let us approach and ascend to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob. And he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.”
And he will judge the nations, and he will rebuke many peoples. And they shall forge their swords into plowshares, and their spears into sickles. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they continue to train for battle.4 Il gouvernera les nations, il sera un arbitre pour la multitude des peuples. De leurs épées ils feront des socs de charrues, et de leurs lances, des faucilles. On ne lèvera plus l’épée, nation contre nation, on n’apprendra plus à faire la guerre.
O house of Jacob, let us approach and walk in the light of the Lord.5 Peuple de Jacob, allons, marchons à la lumière de Yahvé!
For you have cast aside your people, the house of Jacob, because they have been filled up, as in past times, and because they have had soothsayers as the Philistines have, and because they have joined themselves to foreign servants.6 Tu as rejeté le clan de Jacob, ton peuple, il est rempli de devins et de magiciens, comme les Philistins, et l’on y fait bon ménage avec les païens.
Their land has been filled with silver and gold. And there is no end to their storehouses.7 Son pays est rempli d’argent et d’or, de trésors incalculables. Son pays est rempli de chevaux et de chars sans nombre.
And their land has been filled with horses. And their four-horse chariots are innumerable. And their land has been filled with idols. They have adored the work of their hands, which their own fingers have made.8 Son pays est rempli d’idoles, ils se prosternent devant l’ouvrage de leurs mains, devant ce que leurs doigts ont fabriqué!
And man has bowed himself down, and so man has become debased. Therefore, you should not forgive them.9 L’homme sera humilié, le mortel abaissé, ne leur pardonne pas!
Enter into the rock, and hide in a ditch in the soil, from the presence of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty.10 Va aux rochers, cache-toi dans la terre, loin de la terreur de Yahvé et de l’éclat de sa majesté!
The lofty eyes of man have been humbled, and the haughtiness of men will be bowed down. Then the Lord alone shall be exalted, in that day.11 L’œil humain plein d’orgueil sera abaissé, et l’insolence du mortel, humiliée: Yahvé, lui seul, sera élevé ce jour-là.
For the day of the Lord of hosts will prevail over all the proud and self-exalted, and over all the arrogant, and each one shall be humbled,12 Oui, Yahvé Sabaot aura son jour contre tout orgueil et toute insolence, contre tous ceux qui se croient quelque chose: ils seront abaissés!
and over all the straight and tall cedars of Lebanon, and over all the oaks of Bashan;13 Il aura son jour contre les cèdres du Liban, levés et hautains, contre tous les chênes du Bashan,
and over all the lofty mountains, and over all the elevated hills;14 contre les montagnes hautaines et toutes les collines élevées,
and over every lofty tower, and over every fortified wall;15 contre les hautes tours et les remparts fortifiés,
and over all the ships of Tarshish, and over all the beauty that may be seen.16 contre les vaisseaux de Tarsis et tous les navires princiers.
And the loftiness of men will be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men will be brought low. And the Lord alone shall be exalted, in that day.17 L’orgueil de l’homme sera abaissé, l’insolence du mortel, humiliée; Yahvé, lui seul, sera élevé ce jour-là,
And idols will be thoroughly crushed.18 tandis que des idoles il ne restera rien.
And they will go into the caves of the rocks, and into the caverns of the earth, from the presence of the dread of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he will have risen up to strike the earth.19 On se cachera dans les grottes des rochers, dans les trous de la terre, loin de la terreur de Yahvé et de l’éclat de sa majesté, quand il se lèvera pour faire trembler la terre.
In that day, man shall cast aside his idols of silver and his images of gold, which he had made for himself, as if to reverence the moles and the bats.20 En ce jour-là, l’homme jettera aux taupes et aux chauves-souris les idoles d’argent, les idoles en or qu’il s’était fabriquées pour les adorer.
And so he will go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the caverns of stone, from the presence of the dread of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he will have risen up to strike the earth.21 Il se cachera dans les creux et les fentes des rochers, loin de la terreur de Yahvé et de l’éclat de sa majesté, car il se lèvera pour faire trembler la terre.
Therefore, rest away from man, whose breath is in his nostrils, for he considers himself to be exalted.22 Ne vous fiez pas à l’homme: il ne tient qu’au souffle de ses narines, que pouvez-vous attendre de lui?
