1 Then, twenty years having passed since Solomon built the house of the Lord and his own house,	1 Passati i vent'anni durante i quali aveva edificato il tempio e la reggia,
2 he built the cities that Hiram had given to Solomon, and he caused the sons of Israel to live there.	2 Salomone ricostruì le città che Curam gli aveva dato e vi stabilì gli Israeliti.

4 And he built Palmira in the desert, and he built very fortified cities in Hamath.	4 Egli ricostruì Palmira nel deserto e tutte le città di rifornimento, che aveva costruito in Amat.
5 And he built upper Beth-horon and lower Beth-horon, as walled cities, having gates and bars and locks,	5 Ricostruì Bet-Coròn superiore e Bet-Coròn inferiore, fortezze con mura, battenti e catenacci.
6 as well as Baalath, and all the very strong cities which were of Solomon, and all the cities of the chariots, and the cities of the horsemen. Everything whatsoever that Solomon willed and decided, he built in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and throughout the entire land of his authority.	6 Lo stesso fece con Baalat, con tutte le città di rifornimento di sua proprietà e con tutte le città dei carri e dei cavalli; insomma eseguì tutto ciò che gli piacque di costruire in Gerusalemme, nel Libano e in tutto il territorio del suo dominio.
7 All the people who had been left from the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, those who were not from the stock of Israel,	7 Quanti rimanevano degli Hittiti, degli Amorrei, dei Perizziti, degli Evei e dei Gebusei, che non erano Israeliti,
8 those of their sons and their posterity whom the sons of Israel had not put to death, Solomon subjugated as tributaries, even to this day.	8 cioè i loro discendenti, sopravvissuti dopo di loro nel paese, quanti non erano stati sterminati dagli Israeliti, Salomone li rese tributari, come lo sono fino ad oggi.
9 But he did not appoint anyone from the sons of Israel to serve in the works of the king. For they were men of war, and first rulers, and commanders of his chariots and horsemen.	9 Ma degli Israeliti Salomone non impiegò nessuno come schiavo per i suoi lavori, perché essi erano guerrieri, capi dei suoi scudieri, capi dei suoi carri e dei suoi cavalieri.
10 Now all the leaders of the army of king Solomon were two hundred fifty, who were instructing the people.	10 Questi capi di prefetti, eletti dal re Salomone, erano duecentocinquanta e avevano la sorveglianza sul popolo.
11 Truly, he transferred the daughter of Pharaoh, from the City of David, to the house that he had built for her. For the king said: “My wife shall not live in the house of David, king of Israel, for it has been sanctified. For the ark of the Lord has entered into it.”	11 Salomone trasferì la figlia del faraone dalla città di Davide alla casa che aveva costruita per lei, perché aveva stabilito: "Una donna non deve abitare per me nella casa di Davide, re di Israele, perché è sacro ogni luogo in cui ha sostato l'arca del Signore".
12 Then Solomon offered holocausts to the Lord on the altar of the Lord, which he had constructed before the portico,	12 In quel tempo Salomone offrì olocausti al Signore sull'altare del Signore, che aveva costruito di fronte al vestibolo.
13 so that every day there would be an offering on it, in accord with precept of Moses, on the Sabbaths, and on the new moons, and three times a year on the feast days, that is, on the solemnity of unleavened bread, and on the solemnity of weeks, and in the solemnity of tabernacles.	13 Ogni giorno offriva olocausti secondo il comando di Mosè, nei sabati, nei noviluni e nelle tre feste dell'anno, cioè nella festa degli azzimi, nella festa delle settimane e nella festa delle capanne.
14 And he appointed, in accord with the plan of his father David, the offices of the priests in their ministries; and those of the Levites, in their orders, so that they might praise and minister before the priests according to the ritual of each day; and the porters, in their divisions, from gate to gate. For so had David, the man of God, instructed.	14 Secondo le disposizioni di Davide suo padre, stabilì le classi dei sacerdoti per il loro servizio; anche per i leviti dispose che nel loro ufficio lodassero Dio e assistessero i sacerdoti ogni giorno; ai portieri nelle loro classi assegnò le singole porte, perché così aveva comandato Davide, uomo di Dio.
15 Neither the priests, nor the Levites, transgressed against the commands of the king, in all that he had instructed, and in the keeping of the treasuries.	15 Non si allontanarono in nulla dalle disposizioni del re Davide riguardo ai sacerdoti e ai leviti; lo stesso avvenne riguardo ai tesori.
16 Solomon had all the expenses prepared, from the day on which he founded the house of the Lord, even until the day when he perfected it.	16 Così fu realizzata tutta l'opera di Salomone da quando si gettarono le fondamenta del tempio fino al suo compimento definitivo.
17 Then Solomon went away to Eziongeber, and to Eloth, on the coast of the Red Sea, which is in the land of Edom.	17 Allora Salomone andò ad Ezion-Ghèber e ad Elat sulla riva del mare, nella regione di Edom.
18 And Hiram sent to him ships, by the hands of his servants, sailors and skillful navigators of the sea, and they went away with the servants of Solomon to Ophir. And they took from there four hundred fifty talents of gold, and they brought it to king Solomon.	18 Curam gli mandò alcune navi con propri equipaggi e uomini esperti del mare. Costoro, insieme con i marinai di Salomone, andarono in Ofir e di là presero quattrocentocinquanta talenti d'oro e li portarono al re Salomone.
