1 Joseph, realizing this, fell upon his father’s face, weeping and kissing him.	1 José cayó sobre el rostro de su padre, lloró sobre él y lo besó.
2 And he instructed his servant physicians to embalm his father with aromatics.	2 Luego encargó José a sus servidores médicos que embalsamaran a su padre, y los médicos embalsamaron a Israel.
3 And while they were fulfilling his orders, forty days passed. For this was the method of embalming dead bodies. And Egypt wept for him for seventy days.	3 Emplearon en ellos cuarenta días, porque este es el tiempo que se emplea con los embalsamados. Y los egipcios le lloraron durante setenta días.
4 And when the time for mourning was fulfilled, Joseph spoke to the family of Pharaoh: “If I have found favor in your sight, speak to the ears of Pharaoh.	4 Transcurridos los días de luto por él, habló José a la casa de Faraón en estos términos: «Si he hallado gracia a vuestros ojos, por favor, haced llegar a oídos de Faraón esta palabra:
5 For my father made me swear, saying: ‘See, I am dying. You shall bury me in my sepulcher which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan.’ Therefore, I shall go up and bury my father, and then return.”	5 Mi padre me tomó juramento diciendo: “Yo me muero. En el sepulcro que yo me labré en el país de Canaán, allí me has de sepultar.” Ahora, pues, permíteme que suba a sepultar a mi padre, y luego volveré.»
6 And Pharaoh said to him, “Go up and bury your father, just as he made you swear.”	6 Dijo Faraón: «Sube y sepulta a tu padre como él te hizo jurar.»
7 So as he went up, all the elders of the house of Pharaoh went with him, along with every patriarch in the land of Egypt,	7 Subió José a enterrar a su padre, y con él subieron todos los servidores de Faraón, los más viejos de palacio, y todos los ancianos de Egipto,
8 and the house of Joseph with his brothers, except their little ones and flocks and also the herds, which they left behind in the land of Goshen.	8 así como toda la familia de José, sus hermanos y la familia de su padre. Tan sólo a sus pequeñuelos, sus rebaños y vacadas, dejaron en el país de Gosen.
9 Likewise, he had in his company chariots and horsemen. And it became a crowd without restraint.	9 Subieron con él además carros y aurigas: un cortejo muy considerable.
10 And they arrived at the threshing place of Atad, which is situated beyond the Jordan. There they spent seven full days celebrating the funeral rites with a great and vehement lamentation.	10 Llegados a Goren Haatad, que está allende el Jordán, hicieron allí un duelo muy grande y solemne, y José lloró a su padre durante siete días.
11 And when the inhabitants of the land of Canaan had seen this, they said, “This is a great Lamentation for the Egyptians.” And for this reason, the name of that place was called, “The Lamentation of Egypt.”	11 Los cananeos, habitantes del país, vieron el duelo en Goren Haatad y dijeron: «Duelo de importancia es ése de los egipcios.» Por eso se llamó el lugar Abel Misráyim, que está allende el Jordán.
12 And so, the sons of Jacob did just as he had instructed them.	12 Sus hijos, pues, hicieron por él como él se lo había mandado;
13 And carrying him into the land of Canaan, they buried him in the double cave, which Abraham had bought along with its field, from Ephron the Hittite, as a possession for burial, opposite Mamre.	13 le llevaron sus hijos al país de Canaán, y le sepultaron en la cueva del campo de la Makpelá, el campo que había comprado Abraham en propiedad sepulcral a Efrón el hitita, enfrente de Mambré.
14 And Joseph returned into Egypt with his brothers and all those of his company, having buried his father.	14 Regresó José a Egipto con sus hermanos, y todos cuantos habían subido con él a sepultar a su padre.
15 Now that he was dead, his brothers were afraid, and they said to one another: “Perhaps now he may remember the injury that he suffered and requite us for all the evil that we did to him.”	15 Vieron los hermanos de José que había muerto su padre y dijeron: «A ver si José nos guarda rencor y nos devuelve todo el daño que le hicimos.»
16 So they sent a message to him, saying: “Your father instructed us before he died,	16 Por eso mandaron a José este recado: «Tu padre encargó antes de su muerte:
17 that we should say these words to you from him: ‘I beg you to forget the wickedness of your brothers, and the sin and malice that they practiced against you.’ Likewise, we petition you to release the servants of the God of your father from this iniquity.” Hearing this, Joseph wept.	17 “Así diréis a José: Por favor, perdona el crimen de tus hermanos y su pecado.” Cierto que te hicieron daño, pero ahora tú perdona el crimen de los siervos del Dios de tu padre.» Y José lloró mientras le hablaban.
18 And his brothers went to him. And reverencing prostrate on the ground, they said, “We are your servants.”	18 Fueron entonces sus hermanos personalmente y cayendo delante de él dijeron: «Henos aquí, esclavos tuyos somos.»
19 And he answered them: “Do not be afraid. Are we able to resist the will of God?	19 Replicóles José: «No temáis, ¿estoy yo acaso en vez de Dios?
20 You devised evil against me. But God turned it into good, so that he might exalt me, just as you presently discern, and so that he might bring about the salvation of many peoples.	20 Aunque vosotros pensasteis hacerme daño, Dios lo pensó para bien, para hacer sobrevivir, como hoy ocurre, a un pueblo numeroso.
21 Do not be afraid. I will pasture you and your little ones.” And he consoled them, and he spoke mildly and leniently.	21 Así que no temáis; yo os mantendré a vosotros y a vuestros pequeñuelos.» Y les consoló y les habló con afecto.
22 And he lived in Egypt with all his father’s house; and he survived for one hundred and ten years. And he saw the sons of Ephraim to the third generation. Likewise, the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born onto Joseph’s knees.	22 José permaneció en Egipto junto con la familia de su padre, y alcanzó José la edad de 110 años.
23 After these things happened, he said to his brothers: “God will visit you after my death, and he will make you ascend from this land into the land which he swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”	23 José vio a los biznietos de Efraím; asimismo los hijos de Makir, hijo de Manasés, nacieron sobre las rodillas de José.
24 And when he had made them swear and had said, “God will visit you; carry my bones with you from this place,”	24 Por último, José dijo a sus hermanos: «Yo muero, pero Dios se ocupará sin falta de vosotros y os hará subir de este país al país que juró a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob.»
25 he died, having completed one hundred and ten years of his life. And having been embalmed with aromatics, he was laid to rest in a coffin in Egypt.	25 José hizo jurar a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: «Dios os visitará sin falta, y entonces os llevaréis mis huesos de aquí.»
	26 Y José murió a la edad de 110 años; le embalsamaron, y se le puso en una caja en Egipto.
