1 In those days the Philistines mustered their military forces to fight against Israel. So Achish said to David, "You realize, of course, that you and your men must go out on campaign with me to Jezreel."	1 In quei giorni i Filistei radunarono le loro truppe per combattere contro Israele. Allora Achis disse a Davide: "Sappi bene che dovrai uscire in campo con me, tu e gli uomini tuoi".
2 David answered Achish, "Good! Now you shall learn what your servant can do." Then Achish said to David, "I shall appoint you my permanent bodyguard."	2 Davide rispose ad Achis: "Benissimo, tu vedrai quello che farà il tuo servo!". Achis soggiunse: "D'accordo, ti costituirò per sempre mia guardia del corpo".
3 Now Samuel had died and, after being mourned by all Israel, was buried in his city, Ramah. Meanwhile Saul had driven mediums and fortune-tellers out of the land.	3 Samuele era morto e tutto Israele aveva fatto lutto e lo avevano seppellito a Rama, sua città. Saul aveva fatto scomparire dal paese i negromanti e gl'indovini.
4 The Philistine levies advanced to Shunem and encamped. Saul, too, mustered all Israel; they camped on Gilboa.	4 Quando i Filistei si furono radunati, andarono e si accamparono a Sunàm; anche Saul radunò tutto Israele e si accampò sul Gelboe.
5 When Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, he was dismayed and lost heart completely.	5 Saul, al vedere l'accampamento dei Filistei, ebbe paura e il suo cuore tremò forte.
6 He therefore consulted the LORD; but the LORD gave no answer, whether in dreams or by the Urim or through prophets.	6 Allora Saul consultò il Signore, ma il Signore non gli dette risposta né con sogni né con gli urim né per mezzo di profeti.
7 Then Saul said to his servants, "Find me a woman who is a medium, to whom I can go to seek counsel through her." His servants answered him, "There is a woman in Endor who is a medium."	7 Allora Saul disse ai suoi servi: "Cercatemi una donna che possieda il potere evocatore, perché voglio andare da essa per consultarla". I suoi servi risposero: "Ecco, una donna che possiede il potere di evocare sta a Endor".
8 So he disguised himself, putting on other clothes, and set out with two companions. They came to the woman by night, and Saul said to her, "Tell my fortune through a ghost; conjure up for me the one I ask you to."	8 Saul si travestì indossando altri abiti e partì con due altri uomini. Giunsero dalla donna di notte. Egli disse: "Su, praticami la divinazione per mezzo di negromanzie evocandomi colui che io ti dirò".
9 But the woman answered him, "You are surely aware of what Saul has done, in driving the mediums and fortune-tellers out of the land. Why, then, are you laying snares for my life, to have me killed?"	9 Gli rispose la donna: "Ecco, tu sai quello che ha compiuto Saul, che ha fatto scomparire i negromanti e gli indovini dal paese. Perché tendi insidie alla mia vita per farmi morire?".
10 But Saul swore to her by the LORD, "As the LORD lives, you shall incur no blame for this."	10 Allora Saul le giurò per il Signore: "Per la vita del Signore, non subirai alcun castigo per questo fatto!".
11 Then the woman asked him, "Whom do you want me to conjure up?" and he answered, "Samuel."	11 La donna domandò: "Chi devo evocarti?". Rispose: "Evocami Samuele!".
12 When the woman saw Samuel, she shrieked at the top of her voice and said to Saul, "Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!"	12 Quando la donna vide Samuele, gridò a gran voce e disse a Saul: "Perché mi hai ingannata? Tu sei Saul!".
13 But the king said to her, "Have no fear. What do you see?" The woman answered Saul, "I see a preternatural being rising from the earth."	13 Le rispose il re: "Non devi aver paura! Su, che cosa vedi?". La donna rispose a Saul: "Vedo salire divinità dalla terra!".
14 "What does he look like?" asked Saul. And she replied, "It is an old man who is rising, clothed in a mantle." Saul knew that it was Samuel, and so he bowed face to the ground in homage.	14 Le domandò: "Qual è il suo aspetto?". Ella rispose: "Un uomo vecchio sale avvolto in un manto". Saul capì che quello era Samuele, cadde con la faccia a terra e si prostrò.
15 Samuel then said to Saul, "Why do you disturb me by conjuring me up?" Saul replied: "I am in great straits, for the Philistines are waging war against me and God has abandoned me. Since he no longer answers me through prophets or in dreams, I have called you to tell me what I should do."	15 Samuele domandò a Saul: "Perché mi hai molestato evocandomi?". Rispose Saul: "Mi trovo in una grande angustia: i Filistei mi fanno guerra e Dio si è allontanato da me, non mi risponde più né per mezzo dei profeti né per mezzo dei sogni; allora ho voluto chiamarti perché mi indichi cosa devo fare".
16 To this Samuel said: "But why do you ask me, if the LORD has abandoned you and is with your neighbor?	16 Samuele rispose: "Ma perché consulti me, se il Signore si è allontanato da te ed è diventato tuo avversario?
17 The LORD has done to you what he foretold through me: he has torn the kingdom from your grasp and has given it to your neighbor David.	17 Il Signore ha fatto come aveva detto per mezzo mio: ha strappato il regno dalla tua mano e l'ha dato a un altro, a Davide.
18 "Because you disobeyed the LORD'S directive and would not carry out his fierce anger against Amalek, the LORD has done this to you today.	18 Poiché non hai dato ascolto alla voce del Signore e non hai dato corso all'ardore del suo sdegno contro Amalek, per questo il Signore oggi ti tratta in questo modo.
19 Moreover, the LORD will deliver Israel, and you as well, into the clutches of the Philistines. By tomorrow you and your sons will be with me, and the LORD will have delivered the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines."	19 Il Signore darà in potere dei Filistei anche Israele insieme con te. Domani tu e i tuoi figli sarete con me. Il Signore consegnerà nelle mani dei Filistei anche l'accampamento d'Israele".
20 Immediately Saul fell full length on the ground, for he was badly shaken by Samuel's message. Moreover, he had no bodily strength left, since he had eaten nothing all that day and night.	20 Saul cadde a terra all'istante, lungo e disteso, quanto era lungo, preso da un grande spavento per le parole di Samuele; rimase senza forze perché non aveva preso cibo tutto quel giorno e tutta quella notte.
21 Then the woman came to Saul, and seeing that he was quite terror-stricken, said to him: "Remember, your maidservant obeyed you: I took my life in my hands and fulfilled the request you made of me.	21 La donna si avvicinò a Saul e vedendolo tutto sconvolto gli disse: "Ecco, la tua serva ha dato ascolto alla tua voce, io ho posto a repentaglio la mia vita per dare ascolto alle parole che mi hai rivolto.
22 Now you, in turn, please listen to your maidservant. Let me set something before you to eat, so that you may have strength when you go on your way."	22 Ora ascolta anche tu la voce della tua serva; io porrò davanti a te un boccone di pane, mangialo, la forza ritorni in te per rifare il cammino".
23 But he refused, saying, "I will not eat." However, when his servants joined the woman in urging him, he listened to their entreaties, got up from the ground, and sat on a couch.	23 Egli ricusò dicendo: "Non mangio!". I suoi servi lo forzarono, così pure la donna. Egli dette ascolto, si alzò da terra e si pose a sedere sul letto.
24 The woman had a stall-fed calf in the house, which she now quickly slaughtered. Then taking flour, she kneaded it and baked unleavened bread.	24 La donna aveva un vitello ingrassato nella stalla, lo uccise in fretta e, presa la farina, la impastò e ne fece pani azzimi.
25 She set the meal before Saul and his servants, and they ate. Then they stood up and left the same night.	25 Li pose davanti a Saul e ai suoi servi; essi mangiarono, poi si alzarono e ripartirono la notte stessa.
