NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
Then I saw an angel come down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the abyss and a heavy chain.1 And I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit, and a great chain in his hand.
He seized the dragon, the ancient serpent, which is the Devil or Satan, and tied it up for a thousand years2 And he laid hold on the dragon the old serpent, which is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.
and threw it into the abyss, which he locked over it and sealed, so that it could no longer lead the nations astray until the thousand years are completed. After this, it is to be released for a short time.3 And he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should no more seduce the nations, till the thousand years be finished. And after that, he must be loosed a little time.
Then I saw thrones; those who sat on them were entrusted with judgment. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast or its image nor had accepted its mark on their foreheads or hands. They came to life and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years.4 And I saw seats; and they sat upon them; and judgment was given unto them; and the souls of them that were beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the word of God, and who had not adored the beast nor his image, nor received his character on their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were over. This is the first resurrection.5 The rest of the dead lived not, till the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over these; they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for (the) thousand years.6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection. In these the second death hath no power; but they shall be priests of God and of Christ; and shall reign with him a thousand years.
When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison.7 And when the thousand years shall be finished, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, and shall go forth, and seduce the nations, which are over the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, and shall gather them together to battle, the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
He will go out to deceive the nations at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea.8 And they came upon the breadth of the earth, and encompassed the camp of the saints, and the beloved city.
They invaded the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the holy ones and the beloved city. But fire came down from heaven and consumed them.9 And there came down fire from God out of heaven, and devoured them; and the devil, who seduced them, was cast into the pool of fire and brimstone, where both the beast
The Devil who had led them astray was thrown into the pool of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet were. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.10 And the false prophet shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Next I saw a large white throne and the one who was sitting on it. The earth and the sky fled from his presence and there was no place for them.11 And I saw a great white throne, and one sitting upon it, from whose face the earth and heaven fled away, and there was no place found for them.
I saw the dead, the great and the lowly, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened. Then another scroll was opened, the book of life. The dead were judged according to their deeds, by what was written in the scrolls.12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing in the presence of the throne, and the books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged by those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
The sea gave up its dead; then Death and Hades gave up their dead. All the dead were judged according to their deeds.13 And the sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and hell gave up their dead that were in them; and they were judged every one according to their works.
Then Death and Hades were thrown into the pool of fire. (This pool of fire is the second death. )14 And hell and death were cast into the pool of fire. This is the second death.
Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the pool of fire.15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the pool of fire.
