1 An oracle. The word of the LORD to Israel through Malachi.	1 - Parola del Signore a carico d'Israele per mezzo di Malachia.
2 I have loved you, says the LORD; but you say, "How have you loved us?"	2 «Io vi ho amati, dice il Signore, e voi avete detto: - In che cosa ci hai amati? - Non era forse Esaù fratello di Giacobbe? dice il Signore; ed io ho amato Giacobbe,
3 Was not Esau Jacob's brother? says the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, but hated Esau; I made his mountains a waste, his heritage a desert for jackals.	3 ed Esaù l'ho avuto in avversione, e ho ridotto i suoi monti una solitudine e la sua eredità un deserto di fiere.
4 If Edom says, "We have been crushed but we will rebuild the ruins," Thus says the LORD of hosts: They indeed may build, but I will tear down, And they shall be called the land of guilt, the people with whom the LORD is angry forever.	4 Che se quei dell'Idumea vanno dicendo: - Siamo stati distrutti, ma torneranno a edificare ciò che è stato distrutto - così dice il Signore degli eserciti: - Essi edificheranno ed io demolirò, ed essi saranno chiamati: "Frontiere di empietà" e "Popolo contro del quale il Signore è sdegnato in eterno"!
5 Your own eyes shall see it, and you will say, "Great is the LORD, even beyond the land of Israel."	5 E i vostri occhi lo vedranno; e voi direte: "Sia magnificato il Signore oltre i confini di Israele!".
6 A son honors his father, and a servant fears his master; If then I am a father, where is the honor due to me? And if I am a master, where is the reverence due to me?-- So says the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, who despise his name. But you ask, "How have we despised your name?"	6 Un figlio onora il padre, un servo il suo padrone. Dunque, se sono io il padre, dov'è l'onore mio? Se sono io il padrone, dov'è il rispetto a me dovuto? dice il Signore degli eserciti a voi, sacerdoti che avete disprezzato il mio nome. Voi dite: "In che cosa abbiamo disprezzato il tuo nome?".
7 By offering polluted food on my altar! Then you ask, "How have we polluted it?" By saying the table of the LORD may be slighted!	7 Offrite sopra il mio altare un pane che fa schifo, e poi dite: "In che cosa ti abbiamo fatto schifo?". In quanto voi dite: "La mensa del Signore è spregevole!".
8 When you offer a blind animal for sacrifice, is this not evil? When you offer the lame or the sick, is it not evil? Present it to your governor; see if he will accept it, or welcome you, says the LORD of hosts.	8 Se offrite un animale cieco ad essere immolato, non è forse male? E se offrite un animale zoppo o malato, non è forse male? Fanne un'offerta al tuo governatore, e poi vedi, se gli piacerà e se l'accetterà, dice il Signore degli eserciti.
9 So now if you implore God for mercy on us, when you have done the like Will he welcome any of you? says the LORD of hosts.	9 E voi adesso propiziatevi la faccia di Dio, affinchè abbia pietà di voi! Poichè di vostra mano è stato fatto ciò; e può darsi che egli vi accolga amorevolmente? dice il Signore degli eserciti.
10 Oh, that one among you would shut the temple gates to keep you from kindling fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says the LORD of hosts; neither will I accept any sacrifice from your hands,	10 Chi è tra voi, che chiuda le porte e accenda il mio altare gratuitamente? Io non sono contento di voi, dice il Signore degli eserciti; io non accoglierò offerta dalle vostre mani.
11 For from the rising of the sun, even to its setting, my name is great among the nations; And everywhere they bring sacrifice to my name, and a pure offering; For great is my name among the nations, says the LORD of hosts.	11 Perchè da dove sorge il sole fin dove tramonta, il mio nome è grande tra le genti; e in ogni luogo si sacrifica e si offre al mio nome un'oblazione pura; perchè grande è il mio nome tra le genti, dice il Signore degli eserciti.
12 But you behave profanely toward me by thinking the LORD'S table and its offering may be polluted, and its food slighted.	12 Ma voi l'avete profanato in quanto dite: "La mensa del Signore è contaminata, e quello che vi si mette sopra è spregevole, insieme al fuoco che lo consuma".
13 You also say, "What a burden!" and you scorn it, says the LORD of hosts; You bring in what you seize, or the lame, or the sick; yes, you bring it as a sacrifice. Shall I accept it from your hands? says the LORD.	13 E avete detto: "Ecco", a fatica! E vi soffiaste sopra, dice il Signore degli eserciti. E avete condotto roba rapita e animali zoppi e ammalati e li avete presentati in offerta: accetterò io queste cose dalle vostre mani? dice il Signore.
14 Cursed is the deceiver, who has in his flock a male, but under his vow sacrifices to the LORD a gelding; For a great King am I, says the LORD of hosts, and my name will be feared among the nations.	14 Maledetto l'uomo finto, che avendo nel suo gregge un maschio, e avendo fatto voto, sacrifica al Signore uno difettoso; mentre, re grande sono io, dice il Signore degli eserciti, e il mio nome tremendo tra le genti. -
