Daniel 8

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 After this first vision, I, Daniel, had another, in the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar.	1 En l'an trois du règne du roi Balthazar, une vision m'apparut, à moi Daniel, après celle qui m'étaitapparue en premier.
2 In my vision I saw myself in the fortress of Susa in the province of Elam; I was beside the river Ulai.	2 Je contemplais la vision, et tandis que je contemplais, je me trouvais à Suse, la place forte qui estdans la province d'Elam; et, contemplant la vision, je me trouvais à la porte de l'Ulaï.
3 I looked up and saw standing by the river a ram with two great horns, the one larger and newer than the other.	3 Je levai les yeux pour voir. Voici: un bélier se tenait devant la porte. Il avait deux cornes; les deuxcornes étaient hautes, mais l'une plus que l'autre, et la plus haute qui se dressa fut la seconde.
4 I saw the ram butting toward the west, north, and south. No beast could withstand it or be rescued from its power; it did what it pleased and became very powerful.	4 Je vis le bélier donner de la corne vers l'ouest, vers le nord et vers le sud. Nulle bête ne pouvait luirésister, rien ne pouvait lui échapper. Il faisait ce qui lui plaisait et devint puissant.
5 As I was reflecting, a he-goat with a prominent horn on its forehead suddenly came from the west across the whole earth without touching the ground.	5 Voici ce que je discernai: un bouc vint de l'occident, ayant parcouru la terre entière mais sans toucherle sol, et le bouc avait une corne "magnifique" entre les yeux.
6 It approached the two-horned ram I had seen standing by the river, and rushed toward it with savage force.	6 Il s'approcha du bélier aux deux cornes que j'avais vu se tenir devant la porte, et courut vers lui dansl'ardeur de sa force.
7 I saw it attack the ram with furious blows when they met, and break both its horns. It threw the ram, which had not the force to withstand it, to the ground, and trampled upon it; and no one could rescue it from its power.	7 Je le vis atteindre et affronter le bélier: il était en rage contre lui et frappa le bélier, lui brisant lesdeux cornes, sans que le bélier eût la force de lui résister; il le jeta à terre et le foula aux pieds; personne n'était làpour délivrer le bélier.
8 The he-goat became very powerful, but at the height of its power the great horn was shattered, and in its place came up four others, facing the four winds of heaven.	8 Le bouc devint très puissant, mais, en pleine force, la grande corne se brisa et à sa place se dressèrentquatre "magnifiques" à l'encontre des quatre vents du ciel.
9 Out of one of them came a little horn which kept growing toward the south, the east, and the glorious country.	9 De l'une d'elles, de la petite, sortit une corne, mais qui grandit beaucoup dans la direction du sud etde l'orient et du Pays de Splendeur.
10 Its power extended to the host of heaven, so that it cast down to earth some of the host and some of the stars and trampled on them.	10 Elle grandit jusqu'aux armées du ciel, précipita à terre des armées et des étoiles et les foula auxpieds.
11 It boasted even against the prince of the host, from whom it removed the daily sacrifice, and whose sanctuary it cast down,	11 Elle s'exalta même contre le Prince de l'armée, abolit le sacrifice perpétuel et renversa le fondementde son sanctuaire
12 as well as the host, while sin replaced the daily sacrifice. It cast truth to the ground, and was succeeding in its undertaking.	12 et l'armée; sur le sacrifice elle posa l'iniquité et renversa à terre la vérité; elle agit et réussit.
13 I heard a holy one speaking, and another said to whichever one it was that spoke, "How long shall the events of this vision last concerning the daily sacrifice, the desolating sin which is placed there, the sanctuary, and the trampled host?"	13 J'entendis un saint qui parlait, et un autre saint dit à celui qui parlait: "Jusques à quand la vision: lesacrifice perpétuel, désolation de l'iniquité, sanctuaire et légion foulés aux pieds?"
14 He answered him, "For two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary shall be purified."	14 Il lui dit: "Encore 2.300 soirs et matins, alors le sanctuaire sera revendiqué."
15 While I, Daniel, sought the meaning of the vision I had seen, a manlike figure stood before me,	15 Moi, Daniel, contemplant cette vision, j'en cherchai l'intelligence. Voici, se tenant devant moi,quelqu'un qui avait l'aspect d'un homme.
16 and on the Ulai I heard a human voice that cried out, "Gabriel, explain the vision to this man."	16 J'entendis une voix d'homme, sur l'Ulaï, criant: "Gabriel, donne-lui l'intelligence de cette vision!"
17 When he came near where I was standing, I fell prostrate in terror. But he said to me, "Understand, son of man, that the vision refers to the end time."	17 Il s'avança vers le lieu où je me tenais, et, comme il approchait, je fus saisi de terreur et tombai facecontre terre. Il me dit: "Fils d'homme, comprends: c'est le temps de la Fin que révèle la vision."
18 As he spoke to me, I fell forward in a faint; he touched me and made me stand up.	18 Il parlait encore que je m'évanouis, la face contre terre. Il me toucha et me releva.
19 "I will show you," he said, "what is to happen later in the period of wrath; for at the appointed time, there will be an end.	19 Il dit: "Voici, je vais te faire connaître ce qui viendra à la fin de la Colère, pour la Fin assignée.
20 "The two-horned ram you saw represents the kings of the Medes and Persians.	20 Le bélier que tu as vu, ses deux cornes, ce sont les rois des Mèdes et des Perses.
21 The he-goat is the king of the Greeks, and the great horn on its forehead is the first king.	21 Le bouc velu est le roi de Yavân, la grande corne qui est entre ses yeux, c'est le premier roi.
22 The four that rose in its place when it was broken are four kingdoms that will issue from his nation, but without his strength.	22 La corne brisée et les quatre cornes qui ont poussé à sa place, sont quatre royaumes issus de sanation mais qui n'auront pas sa force.
23 "After their reign, when sinners have reached their measure, There shall arise a king, impudent and skilled in intrigue.	23 "Et au terme de leur règne, au temps de la plénitude de leurs péché, se lèvera un roi au visage fier,sachant pénétrer les énigmes.
24 He shall be strong and powerful, bring about fearful ruin, and succeed in his undertaking. He shall destroy powerful peoples;	24 Sa puissance croîtra en force, - mais non par sa propre puissance - il tramera des choses inouïes ilprospérera dans ses entreprises, il détruira des puissants et le peuple des saints.
25 his cunning shall be against the holy ones, his treacherous conduct shall succeed. He shall be proud of heart and destroy many by stealth. But when he rises against the prince of princes, he shall be broken without a hand being raised.	25 Et, par son intelligence, la trahison réussira entre ses mains. Il s'exaltera dans son coeur et détruiraun grand nombre par surprise. Il s'opposera au Prince des Princes, mais - sans acte de main - il sera brisé.
26 The vision of the evenings and the mornings is true, as spoken; Do you, however, keep this vision undisclosed, because the days are to be many."	26 Elle est vraie, la vision des soirs et des matins qui a été dite, mais, toi, garde silence sur la vision,car il doit s'écouler bien des jours."
27 I, Daniel, was weak and ill for some days; then I arose and took care of the king's affairs. But I was appalled at the vision, which I could not understand.	27 Alors, moi Daniel, je défaillis et je fus malade plusieurs jours. Puis je me levai, pour accomplir monoffice auprès du roi, gardant silence sur la vision, et demeurant sans la comprendre.
