1 On the first day of the third month in the eleventh year, the word of the LORD came to me:	1 Nell'anno undecimo, il terzo mese, il primo del mese, la parola del Signore mi fu indirizzata in questi termini:
2 Son of man, say to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to his hordes: What are you like in your greatness?	2 « Figlio dell'uomo, di' a Faraone, re di Egitto, e al suo popolo: A chi rassomigli nella tua grandezza?
3 Behold, a cypress (cedar) in Lebanon, beautiful of branch, lofty of stature, amid the very clouds lifted its crest.	3 Ecco, Assur era come un cedro del Libano, con bei rami, con ombrose fronde, sublime d'altezza, e la, sua vetta s'innalzava tra i densi rami;
4 Waters made it grow, the abyss made it flourish, sending its rivers round where it was planted, turning its streams to all the trees of the field.	4 le acque l'avevano fatto crescere, l'abisso l'aveva fatto innalzare; i suoi fiumi correvano intorno alle sue radici, e mandava i suoi ruscelli a tutte le piante della regione.
5 Thus it grew taller than every other tree of the field, and longer of branch because of the abundant water.	5 Per questo il suo fusto s'innalzò sopra tutti gli alberi della regione, le sue fronde si moltiplicarono, i suoi rami divennero alti a causa dell'abbondanza dell'acqua.
6 In its boughs nested all the birds of the air, under its branches all beasts of the field gave birth, in its shade dwelt numerous peoples of every race.	6 Avendo egli estesa la sua ombra, nei suoi rami fecero i nidi tutti gli uccelli del cielo, e sotto le sue fronde partorirono tutte le bestie della foresta, e sotto la sua ombra stavano accolte numerose nazioni.
7 It became beautiful and stately in its spread of foliage, for its roots were turned toward abundant water.	7 EgIi era bellissimo per la sua grandezza e per la ampiezza dei suoi rami; perchè le sue radici eran lungo le acque abbondanti.
8 The cedars in the garden of God were not its equal, nor could the fir trees match its boughs, Neither were the plane trees like it for branches; no tree in the garden of God matched its beauty.	8 Non ci furono cedri più alti di lui nel paradiso di Dio, non arrivarono alla sua altezza gli abeti e i platani non uguagliarono lo sue fronde; nessuna pianta del paradiso di Dio potè esser a lui simile nella bellezza.
9 I made it beautiful, with much foliage, the envy of all Eden's trees in the garden of God.	9 Perchè io l'avevo fatto così bello pei molti e densi rami, gli portarono invidia tutte le piante delle delizie che erano nel paradiso di Dio.
10 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because it became lofty in stature, raising its crest among the clouds, and because it became proud in heart at its height,	10 Per questo, così parla il Signore Dio: Perchè egli s'è elevato in altezza ed ha alzata la sua verdeggiante e folta cima, e si è insuperbito il suo cuore per la sua altezza.
11 I have handed it over to the mightiest of the nations, which has dealt with it in keeping with its wickedness. I humiliated it.	11 Io l'ho abbandonato nelle mani del più forte dei popoli che lo tratterà a suo talento: secondo la sua empietà io l'ho cacciato.
12 Foreigners, the most ruthless of the nations, cut it down and left it on the mountains. Its foliage was brought low in all the valleys, its branches lay broken in all the ravines of the land, and all the peoples of the land withdrew from its shade, abandoning it.	12 E lo taglieranno gli stranieri, i più crudeli fra le nazioni, e lo getteran via, sulle montagne e in tutte le valli cadranno i suoi rami, e le sue fronde si spezzeranno in tutte le rupi della terra. E fuggiranno dalla sua ombra tutti i popoli della terra, e l'abbandoneranno.
13 On its fallen trunk rested all the birds of the air, and by its branches were all the beasts of the field.	13 Sopra le sue rovine staranno gli uccelli del cielo, sopra i suoi rami riposeranno tutte le bestie della terra.
14 Thus no tree may grow lofty in stature or raise its crest among the clouds; no tree fed by water may stand by itself in its loftiness. For all of them are destined for death, for the land below, For the company of mortals, those who go down into the pit.	14 Così nessun albero piantato lungo le acque s'eleverà in altezza, non alzerà la sua cima tra rami densi e fronzuti, non resteranno nella loro altezza tutti quelli irrigati dalle acque, perchè tutti sono abbandonati alla morte nelle profondità della terra, in mezzo ai figli degli uomini, a quelli che discendono nella fossa.
15 Thus says the Lord GOD: On the day he went down to the nether world I made the abyss close up over him; I stopped its streams so that the deep waters were held back. I cast gloom over Lebanon because of him, so that all the trees in the land drooped on his account.	15 Così parla il Signore Dio: Nel giorno in cui egli discese nell'inferno io presi il lutto e lo coprii coll'abisso; trattenni i suoi fiumi e feci arrestare le grandi acque, a causa di lui si rattristò il Libano e furono scossi tutti gli alberi della campagna.
16 At the crash of his fall I made the nations rock, when I cast him down to the nether world with those who go down into the pit. In the land below, all Eden's trees were consoled, Lebanon's choice and best, all that were fed by water.	16 Col fracasso della sua rovina feci tremare le nazioni, quando lo feci discendere nell'inferno con quelli che scendevano nella fossa, e si consolarono nella profondità della terra tutti gli alberi delle delizie, i più belli e magnifici del Tubano, tutti quelli innaffiati dalle acque.
17 They too have come down with him to the nether world, to those slain by the sword; those who dwelt in his shade are dispersed among the nations.	17 Infatti anch'essi scenderanno nell'inferno tra gli uccisi dalla spada, e il braccio di ciascuno resterà sotto la sua ombra in mezzo allo nazioni.
18 Which was your equal in glory or size among the trees of Eden? Yet you have been brought down with the trees of Eden to the land below. You shall lie with the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword. Such are Pharaoh and all his hordes, says the Lord GOD.	18 A chi rassomigli, o inclito e sublime tra gli alberi delle delizie? Ecco che colle piante dello delizie sei precipitato nel fondo della terra, e dormirai in mezzo agli incirconcisi, tra quelli uccisi dalla spada. Così sarà di Faraone e di tutto il suo popolo — dice il Signore Dio ».
