Ezekiel 14

1 When certain elders of Israel came and sat down before me,	1 Algunos de los ancianos de Israel vinieron a verme, y se sentaron ante mí.
2 the word of the LORD came to me:	2 Entonces la palabra del Señor me llegó en estos términos:
3 Son of man, these men have the memory of their idols fresh in their hearts, and they keep the occasion of their sin before them. Why should I allow myself to be consulted by them?	3 Hijo de hombre, esta gente tiene el corazón apegado a sus ídolos y ha puesto delante de sí lo que es ocasión de sus culpas. ¿Voy a dejar que ellos me consulten?
4 Therefore speak with them, and say to them: Thus says the Lord GOD: If anyone of the house of Israel, holding the memory of his idols in his heart and keeping the occasion of his sin before him, has recourse to a prophet, I, the LORD, will be his answer in person because of his many idols.	4 Por eso, habla con ellos y diles: Así habla el Señor: Si un hombre de Israel que tiene el corazón apegado a sus ídolos y ha puesto delante de sí lo que es ocasión de sus culpas, va y se presenta al profeta, yo mismo, el Señor, me verá obligado a responderle, a causa de la multitud de sus ídolos.
5 Thus would I bring back to their senses the house of Israel, who have become estranged from me through all their idols.	5 Lo haré, a fin de llegar al corazón del pueblo de Israel, porque todos se han alejado de mi a causa de sus ídolos».
6 Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord GOD: Return and be converted from your idols; turn yourselves away from all your abominations.	6 Por eso, di a la casa de Israel: Así habla el Señor: Conviértanse, apártense de sus ídolos; aparten su rostro de todas sus abominaciones
7 For if anyone of the house of Israel or any alien resident in Israel is estranged from me, and holds the memory of his idols in his heart and keeps the occasion of his sin before him, yet asks a prophet to consult me for him, I, the LORD, will be his answer in person.	7 Porque si un hombre de Israel, o un extranjero que reside en Israel, se aleja de mí, erige en su corazón un altar para sus ídolos y pone delante de sí lo que es ocasión de sus culpas, y si luego se presenta al profeta para consultarme, yo mismo, el Señor, me veré obligado a responderle.
8 I will turn against that man, and make of him an example and a byword. I will cut him off from the midst of my people. Thus you shall know that I am the LORD.	8 Volveré mi rostro contra ese hombre, haré que sirva de escarmiento y de ejemplo, y lo extirparé de en medio de mi pueblo. Así ustedes sabrán que yo soy el Señor.
9 As for the prophet, if he is beguiled into speaking a word, I, the LORD, shall have beguiled that prophet; I will stretch out my hand against him and root him out of my people Israel.	9 Pero si el profeta se deja seducir y pronuncia una palabra, habré sido yo, el Señor, el que sedujo a ese profeta: extenderá mi mano contra él y lo exterminaré de en medio de mi pueblo Israel.
10 Each shall receive punishment for his sin, the inquirer and the prophet shall be punished alike,	10 Uno y otro cargarán con esa culpa: el profeta y el que lo consulta serán igualmente culpables.
11 so that the house of Israel may no longer stray from me and may no longer be defiled by all their sins. Thus they shall be my people, and I will be their God, says the Lord GOD.	11 Así, nunca más el pueblo de Israel andará errante lejos de mí, y no volverá a mancharse con todas sus rebeldías: ellos serán mi Pueblo y yo será su Dios –oráculo del Señor–.
12 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	12 La palabra del Señor me llegó en estos términos:
13 Son of man, when a land sins against me by breaking faith, I stretch out my hand against it and break its staff of bread, I let famine loose upon it and cut off from it both man and beast;	13 Hijo de hombre, si un país peca contra mí cometiendo alguna infidelidad, yo extenderá mi mano contra él y agotaré todas sus reservas de alimento: enviaré el hambre sobre él y extirparé por igual a hombres y animales.
14 and even if these three men were in it, Noah, Daniel, and Job, they could save only themselves by their virtue, says the Lord GOD.	14 Pero si se encuentran en ese país estos tres hombres: Noé, Daniel y Job, ellos salvarán su vida a causa de su justicia –oráculo del Señor–.
15 If I were to cause wild beasts to prowl the land, depopulating it so that it became a waste, traversed by none because of the wild beasts,	15 Si yo suelto las bestias feroces contra ese país para dejarlo despoblado, y él se convierte en un desierto intransitable, a causa de las fieras;
16 and these three men were in it, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I swear they could save neither sons nor daughters; they alone would be saved, and the land would be a waste.	16 aunque se encuentren en ese país estos tres hombres, juro por mi vida –oráculo del Señor– que no podrán salvar ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas: ellos solos se salvarán, mientras que el país quedará desierto.
17 Or if I brought the sword upon this country, commanding the sword to pass through the land cutting off from it man and beast,	17 O bien, si yo atraigo la espada contra ese país, diciendo: «Pase la espada por este país y extirpe de él a hombres y animales»;
18 and these three men were in it, as I live, says the Lord GOD, they would be unable to save either sons or daughters; they alone would be saved.	18 aunque se encuentren en ese país estos tres hombres, juro por mi vida –oráculo del Señor– que no podrán salvar ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas: ellos se salvarán.
19 Or if I were to send pestilence into this land, pouring out upon it my bloodthirsty fury, cutting off from it man and beast,	19 O si envío la peste contra ese país y desahogo en forma sangrienta mi indignación contra ellos, extirpando por igual a hombres y animales;
20 even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I swear that they could save neither son nor daughter; they would save only themselves by their virtue.	20 aunque se encuentren en ese país Noé, Daniel y Job, juro por mi vida –oráculo del Señor– que no podrán salvar ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas: ellos solos se salvarán a causa de su justicia.
21 Thus says the Lord GOD: Even though I send Jerusalem my four cruel punishments, the sword, famine, wild beasts, and pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast,	21 Así habla el Señor: Aunque yo envié contra Jerusalén mis cuatro terribles castigos –la espada, el hambre, las bestias feroces y la peste– para extirpar de ella a hombres y animales,
22 still some survivors shall be left in it who will bring out sons and daughters; when they come out to you, you shall see their conduct and their actions and be consoled regarding the evil I have brought on Jerusalem (all that I have brought upon it).	22 ahí queda un resto de sobrevivientes que hacen salir a sus hijos y a sus hijas y vienen adonde están ustedes. Ustedes verán su mala conducta y sus obras, y se consolarán de la desgracia que atraje sobre Jerusalén, de todo lo que mandé contra ella.
23 They shall console you when you see their conduct and actions, for you shall then know that it was not without reason that I did to it what I did, says the Lord GOD.	23 Ellos los consolarán, porque ustedes verán su mala conducta y sus obras, y así sabrán que no sin motivo hice todo esto en la ciudad –oráculo del Señor–.
